Pizza is my thing. I love it. Homeslice had a great, thin, crust, and the sauce was very tasty. People talk about other places on S. Congress, but I'd say homeslice is worth a trip!

Hands down best pizza in Austin. Cool, funky decor and cold beer. Very popular, so be prepared for a wait. That would be the only drawback is the limited seating. Overall, a must visit if you love pizza!

A lovely African American lady was totally ignored while the white patrons were taken care of & waited on appropriately. Austin doesn't have room for this sort of attitude & behavior. For shame.

Moved down from NYC in 05 and after months of complaining about horrible pizza, my buddy took me here to shut me up. I made it a point to visit once a week until I moved to SA, but always find time while I'm in town. Don't even acknowledge the bad reviews, those people were expecting CC's and got the real deal, they just weren't ready for it !

Pros: REAL NY Pizza

Cons: No location in San Antonio

Home Slice is the closest thing to authentic NY Pizza in Austin. So much so that the owners are taking the entire staff to NY for 3 days to "drink in" the NY Pizza experience.

Overall, fantastic pizza, very high quality.

It's hard to eat pizza in Austin when you're from NY but Home Slice makes it bearable. If we want a quick slice it's definitely our first choice. We usually grab a slice and then enjoy a walk down Congress.

From the outside it just looks like a normal pizza joint with a cool name, but once you walk in side it's suprisingly hip, with dim lighting, cool wall fixtures and modern seating areas. We expected to pop in and get a greasy slice on a paper plate Wednesday night. We ended up waiting 20 minutes because this place was hoppin! The host was kind enough to get us a glass of wine while we waited. The pizza was delicious, no doubt about it. I'm so pleased to have Home Slice down the street.

I'm loving this establishment. I'd have to agree with lang77 that some (or just one) of the servers have attitude but overall I've had pleasant accounts with most of the staff. If you visit often enough as my fam and I do then they start to know you by name and nix the attitude if they know you have a good attitude yourself. The pizza is great and greek salad is on par! This place is local for me so returning is a definite 'yes'!

The pizza is fantastic. Make sure you get a freshly made pie to really do Home Slice justice. While the individual slices are good, the fresh baked pie is waaay better. If you like big slices of pizza baked with a nice thin NY-Style crust, Home Slice is your place. I go here often and the food is always tasty and the wait staff is good. Bartender dude with the crazy hair is super nice. If you don't like Home Slice you are probably a communist.

Pros: Pizza!, Beer, Awesome Wait Staff, Ambiance

Cons: Parking Can be a Pain, It Can Get Loud Inside

.

Overall, I think the Pizza is decent. My biggest complaint is the horrible and rude service. Whether you try to eat inside or outside expect poor service, extremely long waits, and a smug hipster attitude telling you to go elsewhere if you don't like it. If you are hoping to walk by and grab a slice from the window expect the same treatment. I have waited 25 plus minutes for a slice and witnessed a customer being yelled by the staff for inquiring about his order after 30 minutes. I no longer go to Home Slice and would recommend others do the same.

Home Slice is a contemporary blast from the past. The service is excellent, the quality of the ingredients is unsurpassed, the portions are good, and the price is right. This is the kind of restaurant you will remember fondly. No styrofoam cups, no paper plates, no plastic silverware, and no skimping to save a few bucks. The pizza is simply the best you will find in Austin. The best time to go is Sunday, mid-afternoon, when the crowd has dissipated. Two thumbs up! Other restaurant owners should take note.

I'm from New York City and this comes really, really close. The crust is perfectly baked: Crispy underneath and chewy just below the sauce. Oh, yeah, the sauce. It's got just the right combination of herbs and spices (especially the oregano). The cheese has the perfect consistency. I won't get it with toppings; It's like putting ketchup on a fillet mignon. They bake the pizza in a brick-lined deck oven, just in The City. All that's missing are the juice machines and the thick accents. (accent? what accent? fuggedaboudit!)

Oh, and watch the guys tossing the dough... brings back memories...

This pizza is just amazing. It really is incredibly good, the toppings, the crust, all of it. There is nothing fancy or particularly exciting about it, just excellent NY style pizza. And their house salad is one of the best salads in town. Sometimes I go just for that! The ingredients are so fresh and the dressing is perfectly light. The only bad thing to be said about Homeslice is that it is really loud, you aren't going to have a nice, quiet evening. And they actually charge for a side of marinara, which I think is just cheap. Also, their beer on tap selection is weak. Overall, it's the best pizza place in town. Easy.

We went here for a small family celebration & it was awesome!!! We went on a Sunday shortly after 1PM and it was busy but we only had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. We were seated promptly and the waitress quickly took our drink/pizza order. The food came out within reasonable time, and it tasted great!!! Better than any Pizza I've ever eaten anywhere else!! Would highly recommend to anyone, but have also been warned about the long wait, so plan ahead & call it in, or go during the week!!!

For Austin, this is very good pizza. Mind you Austin has some of the worst pizza places I have ever eaten so it isn't hard to shine. What Home Slice has going for it's name is a hip locatiopn near college and good prices - so there will be a huge buzz over the food but can you trust the 2 am college crowd?
I droppped by one day for lunch and picked up a couple of slices at the take out window. After a pretty significant wait (not too big of a deal) I got my food and eagerly tried it out. I was very happy it was still hot by the time I ate it in my car (no seats avail outdoors) but not so happy the take out container was 2 thin paper plates in a bag leaking grease everywhere.
The pizza was good. The crust was the best part. May be the Cityseach review was right that the take out window is a miss compared to dine in as I liked the pizza but wasn't knocked over by it. With all the hype it should be liek REAL NY pizza but is is a Texas variant on it. I mean don't get me wrong, ot was good and I'll eat there again but go in not believing the hype (especially if your world has consisted beyond Round Rock).
I will say the service was super friendly too, even at the window.

The White Pizza from Homeslice is the greatest pizza ever invented! It has garlic, olive oil, and ricotta cheese which I then added spinach and sausage to. I washed it down with Firemans #4 which was recommended on the menu and they know what they are talking about. If you are looking for a quick meal, this is not your place because it was packed and no one was in a hurry. This place is truly a SOCO original.

The pizza here is excellent! I really like a crispy crust and this place is GREAT for that! The toppings were fresh and the staff was nice.

Unfortunately, it is VERY loud inside. If you are trying to hold a conversation, this is NOT the place to do it. It seems that every sound echos and makes it very hard to hear anything.

Parking is OK -- I found a spot in their small lot, plus there is the normal Congress parking and if need be, the lot back behind the businesses across Congress.

It's pretty obvious, this place is the best pie in town. Why do i say that you might ask? Because every seasoned food critic knows the foundation to a phenomenal pizza is the crust. This is a neapolitan/new york style crust that will not be mistaken for any other. Thin, crispy, and still chewy...it's that simple people. I've tried the Southside Flying Pies (mediocre), Milto's, Frank & Angies, etc. and this is definitely my favorite. Yaghi's New York pizza is pretty good, but no Home Slice. Now i know this is a blog for the almighty Home Slice and no offense to my buddies that work there, but I like to share the love. So, for all you neapolitan/thin style crust lovers, the only ones that come close to this place in my opinion are 2 places: East Side Pies and Saccone's. I dont care what anyone says... these 3 places are where it's at, period. Much love Home Slice!!! -Mems

I am an italian born and raised in brooklyn and I have searched high and low in Austin for edible pizza. Homeslice far surpasses any other "pizza" in this town. The wait on a weekend evening is awful I know but this is the best pizza in the area and we have never had a problem with service. I would (and have) recommend this to anyone and I would like to thank the stranger at McBrides who told us about it!

This is, without doubt, the best pizza I've ever had. I don't know if some of these other reviewers have been hypnotized or if they just want to hate on Austin, but you will not find a better pizza elsewhere.

It is true what they say about the wait there on the weekends, or any other day for that matter. But, it's a small place, and it's amazing pizza, so obviously tons and tons of people are going to show up for dinner hour.

My advice, order your pizza an hour ahead of when you'd like to eat. It's called planning ahead.

Don't buy into the long lines and the catchy name. The pizza is defnitely sub par. The ingredients they use are of cheap quality and the worst thing about their pizzas are that it is bland and the crust is flavorless. Pay attention to the after taste...there is none! You will notice ppl dousing their pizzas with hot pepper flakes b/c otherwise there is no flavor. This is FAR from NY style pizza. The service is horrible on the weekends.

If you live thin-crust pizza with extremely fresh ingredients, this is your pizza. If you like a "hip" atmosphere (read: lots of young people and lots of loud music), this is your place. If you like the food but not the ambience, I highly recommend ordering to-go and picking it up, otherwise your experience will be sub-par. As for other food choices, the calzones are extremely good and a great value for the price, the same with their family-sized salads. The crowds can get ridiculous at times, but that should be an indication that this is a great place. That said, beware that parking can be tricky: the tiny Homeslice parking lot is rarely empty, but there is plenty of parallel parking on either cross street to Congress. Keep the munchkins at home for dinner time, but bring 'em for lunch or just go with my usual mod.op.: order to-go. Really, the pizza is amazing.

I had been here 2 years before Home Slice arrived. People kept referring me to "NY" pizza places.....they weren't actually NY pizza. Then I went to Home Slice. From the moment I ordered a slice and it came all shiny on the paper plate I knew it was going to be great. Nice casual setting and great pies. Don't forgot it's a plain pie when you order not a cheese pizza :)

The pizza at Home Slice is the best in Austin. Everything is interesting, and the thin crust in large slices drives me and all my pals through the long wait-long on a Saturday night. The scene is hot, and they are always having some kind of fun, interesting contests for free stuff. I've discovered many great wines and beers at this indepedent little spot. Prices are great. Avoid this place any time you are hungry and want to eat within the next 2 hours. We thought the 45 minute wait time on a Friday evening was pretty reasonable. Then we waited 20 minutes for a drink and ate 4 of the most tasteless "garlic" knots imaginable. When over an hour had passed, we checked with the hostess, who laughed at the idea of us getting seated within the next 15 minutes. It was a pretty cruel misjudgment at that point in the evening... we had to move on at that point.
Maybe one day I can forgive and go back for a slice through the window!

All these people complain about service that "isnt that great", really where is the service superb these days? Homeslice is awesome!!! I'm from New York.. you don't get happy hellos there.. you get good pizza, and that is what you will get here. The service isn't bad at all either. Great atmosphere and amazing food. Salads are even good. So go for the food, and stuff your mouth

Best Pizza in town? Hardley! The pizza was good, not great. Try Pizza Nizza or Vespaio for really great Pizza. Hostess seated our 4 people on a 2 top sized table. When we asked to be seated at the 4 top booth, she told us she was seating a party in front of us at that booth. She then proceeded to seat a 2 top at the large booth. there were no unseated parties ahead of us at this time. My ears are still ringing 2 days later from the speaker mounted above our table. No conversation took place while we were seated. When we asked the owner to turn it down a little, I don't think she heard us. IT WAS TOO LOUD!!! Desserts were good and fairly priced. Our server was good and friendly. Will we come back? Not if we have to wait as long as we did for a tiny table under the SPEAKER.

Yes- at times there is a wait, the place is a bit small, so that can't handle the DEMAND!!! There is DEMAND because this place is in a highly trafficed area, and because it's delcious! I crave their slices. It's mmmm mmm good.

Try this place during slow times. The pizza really is the best in Austin. However, and take this as a warning, the service is not good. Waits are longer than you are told, and there is nowhere to wait. Bring you misquito repellent, you may be waiting outside on the sidewalk. Not recommended for old people or pregnant women! Try it out on a Wednesday at 4pm, the pizza is truely New York style.
