I've been coming here for three years now. The selection is great and I always receive good prices since I'm a regular. Love my Dr. Gross, and all the girls working at the front. Will be back for more eye wear.

I have always been a difficult contact lens fit. Dr. Gross spent 45 minutes with me to get a really good, comfortable contact lens fit. I never felt rushed, and I never seen better than now. Thank you Dr. Gross.

Terrible experience at their 96th street location. Took several weeks for my order to come in. Was lied to by the customer staff. The staff is rude and argumentative and treat thier customers like garbage. It'soverpriced, not worth the money or the hassle. Will never go there again!

I went to manhattan eyeworks last week for my first pair of reading glasses. I saw Dr. Gross and he was thorough and friendly and answered all of my questions ( like: "Why me doctor" !!! ). Afterward, i tried on about 30 pairs of glasses from the very patient sales girl. We all voted and i picked out this really nice tortoise round pair made by Oliver Peoples. My wife loved them alot. I picked them uponly 2 days later and i could not believe how well i was seeing. I recommendeed this place to my co workers, and they had already been there and also loved the place, especially Dr. Gross. They had a big sale and i recently picked up a second pair that i could leave at work.
It is rare to find a place like this with exceptional customer service and great selection. It was a very positive experience.

I came here in May as they took my vision plan and I wanted new glasses.
After the eye test the guy indicated that he was writing a new prescription for my right eye. I said to him at the time that this was suprising as I could see perfectly through the current prescription.
So the glasses come in a week or so later and I try them on only to find that the correction for the right eye was wrong.
He retests me and comes to the conclusion that my current prescription, as I asserted to him at the time of the previous test, was still the valid prescription.
They send the glasses back for rework and then lose them and don't call to tell me.
I follow up and they blame the plan, the plan blames the store but as the plan could prove they had been sent to the store and lost by the store they agree to make them out of their own pocket. It's not as if they had not already had mine and the vision plans money for glasses I have yet to see.
This has been the worst most time consuming vision experience I have had.

I have three big problems with the Manhattan Eye works on 23rd. First, they have attempted 3 times to write a prescription for my glass and my vision out of the left lense is still blurry. Second, when I went back to get the lenses fixed the first two times the Doctors assisting me were awkward if not rude. Third, when I went in to have the frames adjusted, the arm was nearly pulled from the frame. Afterwards I was told that the frames were defective by one of the doctors and that "all adjustments are made at the customers own risk". Fortunately, the store manager was helpful. Unfortunately, after 2 months I still can not see with the glasses I paid for. I will never return to the store again. I would rather spend twice the money on lenses than waste any more time in that place.

I had a poor experience here which surprised me considering the other reviews. I ordered a pair of glasses and was told special reflective lenses were included in my insurance plan. A week later I went to pick up the glasses and was told the lenses in fact weren't included and I would have to pay the extra money. Instead of biting the cost when I told them I hadn't even wanted special lenses and only got them because I was told they were included, they said they would send them back to get a pair with regular lenses. Fair enough. Two weeks later I heard nothing- called and was told they hadn't arrived. A full month after my exam I called again and was told they were in the store--no one thought it a good idea to let me know they arrived? Just not good business habits.

I've been a customer/ patient of manhattan eyeworks on 9th ave since they opened 3 years ago. The doctor was great and knowledgeable. The sales people are not only competent but are funny and outgoing and and are very helpful in selecting really stylish glasses. The frame selection there is probably the best on the west side. I have worn glasses my whole life and would not shop any where else!! Every visit to manhattan eyeworks has not only been a refreshing change to my apperance, but i also feel that the staff, especially Marina, makes me feel very comfortable and special. I always have a difficult time picking out my glasses, but somehow she always seems to choose something great! Their prices are very reasonable and their service is great. They also take most insurance coverages. I totally recommend going there!!..

Looking elsewhere online, this company gets rave reviews, so I was surprised at the negativity here. I went to the 23rd Street office for new glasses on United Healthcare. My first visit was just to scope it out, and I was impressed. Tanisha helped me, she was thorough, amusing and made helpful suggestions on what suited me. Choose from Oliver Peoples, Paul Smith, Gucci etc and also lightweight Swiss frames. She made time to write down all the style numbers and what discounts I would get with the Healthcare and I made an appt for a couple of days later.

Second time in, and the Doctor was quick and helpful, explaining variance between glasses and contacts prescriptions. I then spent at least 30 minutes with D'Artagnan who is surely the long lost brother of Samuel L. Jackson! He went through every possible variation of lens and frame with me. When I cheekily asked him to alter TWO pairs of my own glasses/sunglasses I had brought with me so they actually fit my face, he was helpful and professional, insisting that he alter them until they fit properly.

Collected my glasses after one week, another chap spent time fitting them for me, and gave tips on how to clean them, inviting me back to have them altered whenever I wanted.

Pros: The staff

Cons: Take exact details of what your insurance covers, in case of queries

My initial visit with the doctor was fine and getting my first set of contacts was no problem. However, I recently tried to order contacts and the sales manager Marina had no clue how to reorder contacts. She could not verify my prescription. I asked for a 90 day pack of contacts - and she kept asking is it for both eyes? How stupid can you one be - yes obliviously it is for both eyes. Yes, I admit I have different prescriptions for each eye. But why would one not order equal amounts for each eye.

On top of this - the price was now three times the amount I paid initially, even though I had insurance. Marina was well acquainted with my insurance coverage; I even had insurance company call her to detail the coverage. In fact my initial visit and contacts were partially covered by same insurance policy.

To make matters worse when I even came into the store to get a copy of my prescription - I was verbally attacked with profanity. I would not recommend this place to anyone! The staff is rude and incompetent!! Please note this is the store on 49th Street ? but I would assume all of the locations are the same.

ive never written one of these before but i am now because i am DEEPLY UNSATISFIED. this is my first time using contacts and this place seemed good as any to order them - most of all it is close to my work. anyway - i went and had my exam and that went fine - doctor was nice and all - and i was told my contacts would be in a week later. so i was fine with that. 2 weeks later i call to ask if maybe i had missed their call somehow - i wasnt even mad or anything - and no one had even bothered ordering them for me yet. great. but no big deal, whatever. HOWEVER now it has been a month, and no sign of them. im calling them all the time, the staff keeps insisting my contacts are "in the mail" but - why would it take TWO WEEKS to mail them? i don't understand and i am getting really annoyed. i just called to ask if they were definitely ordered (for um, the 10th time probably) - the girl i spoke to told me she would call the manufacturer, but at this point i have no idea what to believe. i am NEVER GOING BACK. do not go to this place. i dont know what other eye places are like around here, but this manhattan eyeworks have a retardedly bad business ethic!!!!

The doctor here (Dr. Gross) is pretty competent, however the front office staff is consistently rude, unhelpful, and deceptive. I've had two of my annual exams here and have dealt with them on several occasions when I was reordering contacts. On one of those occasions, one of the staff told me that he was too busy to verify my prescription to the contact lens supplier I was using.

When I went in for my annual exam recently, I was told that I needed to pay an additional $62 above my normal insurance copayment because I wore contact lenses. This despite the fact that they had not charged me this the previous year. This was particularly irritating because I specifically called before my appointment, told them who my insurance was through, and asked what charges I could expect and they did not advise me of this. Basically what they're doing is requiring that you pay for a contact lens fitting, which any other optometrist would bill you for separately and would only give you if you wanted a new brand of contacts.
