It is unfortunate that this restaurant has really gone downhill in the last year. Went there for brunch today and was very disappointed. The first waiter that approached our table looked so hungover that I though he had came straight to work form last night's rave. He handed us over to the next waiter. (not sure why?) who got our order wrong and never apologized. He would be better suited selling fake Rolexes than working in what use to be a fine restaurant. They still make very tasty scrambled eggs, but this is a shell of the restaurant that I enjoyed so much just a year ago.

Gusto Ristorante is the real deal. Came here with a group of 8 and had the most pleasant dining experience. The place was buzzing with a great crowd, great food, great cocktails, and great service.

We went there for the second time in two weeks. The first time my son and I went and the prix fix brunch is perfect - with the warm donut holes.

The ricotta pancakes and frittatas, as well as unlimited Bloody Mary's for the first hour, were wonderful!

The second time was with my family as a brunch again for a birthday celebration. This time we had the private room in the wine cellar and were pampered!

I can't wait to try dinner next!

Italian food really doesn't get more authentic than Gusto Ristorante. Took my girlfriend here for dinner (solid date spot) and everything was perfect from the service, wine, food, and dessert. Good music as well. Highly recommend this place. cheers!

Just came through for a quick bite during lunch. The staff was extremely friendly and the food was outstanding. I even ordered something that wasn't on the menu and the chef was more than accommodating. I will definitely be back...the decor is nice and it's a great spot for a birthday party.

I hadn't been here in a couple of years - I've had many good meals here. What happened? It was empty ... the staff was indifferent ... the food was good, but not great ... just not the Gusto I remember.

I'm disappointed.

I went to Gusto for the second time this past Friday evening and was blown away. I went once over the summer and the food was good, but this last time solidified it in my mind as truly, one of the best Italian restaurants in NY. Their pasta, mostly home made, is better than Babbo's (sorry Mario) and a fraction of the price. If you want a fun evening at a chic West Village hot spot with a laid back vibe, not only will you enjoy the energy of this place, but the food is wonderful! According to our waiter, the restaurant has been going through some transitions and there is a new chef/owner named Saul something rather. In my mind, the food is getting better and better so keep up the good work Saul. I'll definitely be going back more often.
As for the service, we had a very nice, tall, dark and handsome, young man waiting on us;) He was extremely friendly, but not oppressively so. He was happy to engage us in conversation without rambling on and on. We felt very taken care of. I don't know what else to say really. Great staff, great food, great ambiance. I had a great time and I'm sure you will too!!! Thanks Gusto! See you soon!

GUSTO ristorante is probably my favorite restaurant in NY. We have gone there for several important celebrations and they have never let us down. Food, service, wine list everything is amazing, and the atmosphere is a great mix of friendly/special. I highly recommend the Octopus and the Dover Sol !!

A friend recommended me this Italian restaurant and I took my boyfriend there last night. I have to say the food and service was spectacular! We started w a few drinks from a very friendly bartender(I had the barolo and its great!) and then moved to a romantic candle lit table in the front window of the restaurant. My boyfriend and I shared the octopus for a starter and its one of the best octopuses ive had in the city. Then we had the malfatti and halibut, also really good. The food, service, and atmosphere was all together excellent!

We went there on a Saturday night, and all courses were excellent. Before they could get our table ready they sat use down at the bar and had a wonderful time with Two very handsome Bartenders. We sat down at the Table and had a wonderful dinner. The Malffati with spinach and ricotta cheese was delicious, the Veal Chop was cooked perfectly, and the Banana tort was a nice way to finish. The waiter recommended to us a modestly-priced bottle of wine that turned out to be excellent I even wrote down the name of the bottle witch is Valdomo good wine. The atmosphere is fun and attractive, and the service was attentive and helpful. definitely recommend this place. it was and will remain an extremely great experience.

RIDICULOUSLY SMALL PORTIONS! Taste-wise, Gusto is nothing to sneeze at. But in a city known for great Italian food, don't buy into the hype of this place. My family and I are not big eaters, and we all left dinner hungry. Chef Anne Burrell's star has lost a lot of luster in my mind, and I was a big fan in large part because she is a well-tested Batali disciple. There's no way Batali would approve of Gusto, so neither do I.

Pros: Taste - the flavors are true to great Italian tradition

Cons: tiny portions, limited meat entrees

.

Not your typcial Italian place with heaping portions of the usual entrees. It's an interesting twist though some do not work out (rasins in meatballs?). I found the staff extremely friendly and prompt. Stop for a drink at the bar - good bartenders and a wide selection. Prices overall were a little high but not outside the normal.

Due to the fact that this establishment has no idea how to encourage customers to be loyal I have to give the restaurant a 0 out of 10, I will never be back.
A few months ago I was one of a party of eight. I chose to give my coat to the hostess who offered to take it to their coat check. Unfortunately at the end of the evening my coat could not be found. When I went to the "coat check" (also known as the hall that leads to the kitchen), it was discovered (after some time) that my coat was in the LAUNDRY BASKET! The hostess/manager apologized and hand wrote a gift certificate to please come back. Tonight that gift certificate was refused. Needless to say it was for a mere $60, our bill was $164. The waiter told us that manager no longer worked there and the management said that this was just a piece of paper that could have been written by anyone. The management?s decision and behavior was shameful. Apparently I should be expecting a call from the head office tomorrow to resolve this matter and may receive a new gift certificate.

This resturant was terrible. Appetizers were blend, had no flavor, sardines were very fishy and not fresh. Main course of meatballs was very small, and consisted of 5 tiny meatballs. This is definetely a place to avoid, by far the worst resturant I have been to in a long time.

I am a regular at Giorgione and had high hopes for Gusto - even though the chef has left and gone to Morandi. Anyway the food was good - nice pasta, good steaks, great fritto misti - but the service left a lot to be desired. Our waiter (who used to work at Giorgione 508 and always got my sandwich order wrong there - I should have known!) was the worst. Knew diddly about the food, had to be prompted what each individual special was, constantly forgot stuff, sold us on a tangerine granita which turned out to be a sorbet (he replied "Yeah I know" when we pointed this out to him). But the weirdest thing was throughout all of this he just kept inanely grinning at us. It was like being served by Johnny from The Shining. The food WAS good however bad service aside, he acoustics are terrible. We could not hear our dinner guests and we were a small table of 4. The interior is so dark you may fall over the first step like our 7 month pregnant friend almost did. Oh and the table next to us had a brawl on the sidewalk. Classy! Don't think we'll return to Gusto although I'm still a fan of Giorgione. Giorgione Deluca - sort your staff out!

We went there on a Saturday night, and all courses were excellent. The asparagus with mascarpone cheese was delicious, the scallops were cooked perfectly, and the tartufo was a nice way to finish. The waiter recommended to us a modestly-priced bottle of wine that turned out to be excellent. The atmosphere is fun and attractive, and the service was attentive and helpful. It's one of those tables-way-too-close-together situations, but after the wine settles in, you pretty much forget about that. I definitely recommend this place.

It was indeed necessary to read all 23 reviews about this restaurant, to realize that out of all the people that had dined at Gusto, only a handful wrote bad about it on citysearch. I am a frequent visitor at the restaurant, and not once left unsatisfied. Always a greeting at the door! The food is consistently yummy!!!! What I find good about the service is that the waiter does not hover over our table and allows us to enjoy our time instead of rush us though our meal like most New York City hot spots. I had a private party in the Wine Room, organized by Tatiana in late January and she was fantastic! I can imagine why it would be hard to book a large party on a Saturday night, or any other night for that matter, the place is always packed with fine diners and bar hoppers, creating an exiting energy to be part of. This place will serve you with or without reservation and it's well worth the wait!

The only thing that this place can brag about is it?s funky interior, but the CUSTOMER SERVICE IS JUST BAD! I tried to make a reservation for a party of ten for my Birthday, and I was told that they cannot accommodate us because of the amount of business that they are EXPECTING for that Saturday....and what are we chopped liver?! When I did express my annoyance to Tatiana (I think that?s her name), she offered to tightly squeeze all ten of us in a small round table. Are you kidding Tatiana?! FYI, we were not going to stay in your restaurant forever and deprive GUSTO potential business. Well, guess what?! You lost my business, and hopefully this review will make other people think twice before they call your restaurant! Tatiana, your restaurant is no Babbo, please!

My boyfriend and I went to Gusto for the first time on a recent Saturday night. Our table was ready promptly at the time of our reservation and we were tended to immediately by our server. The wine list, although good, is relatively over-priced. $50 bottles would cost you $40 at most other restaurants (no, not just Landmarc). The food was fantastic. The grilled octopus was heavenly! We have, however, two complaints: (1) the background music was sporadic and awkward, and (2) our server apparently forgot about us once we had finished our main courses and the dishes had been removed (at least 15 minutes between ending main courses and offering of dessert; another 10 minutes after dessert (biscotti!) to receive coffee). Despite the relatively poor service, we will probably give Gusto another chance, because the food was fantastic (although don't come hungry).

We live in the neighborhood and passed by Gusto so often that we thought we would give it a try. Two Sundays ago we went there for brunch. The hostess sat us in the back near a dirty wall where we sat for at least 15 minutes as the waiters hurried by us to serve the few other customers who were there. Finally our non challant, slightly arrogant waiter came by to give us menus.

We ordered and when the food finally came (we were now clocking close to an hour since we first sat down) it was overly salted. I had a small (very small) pizza with a fried egg. I happen to like very salty food because even small portions become filling. The coffee was lukewarm and muddy. The waiter never returned to see if we needed anything. However he did manage to bring us the check almost as soon as we finished eating. Pricey for what we got. Well, at least we tried it....once.

We went to Gusto for brunch on the recommendation of a friend and unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. Despite beautiful decor and adequate service the food was disappointing. There was nothing on the brunch menu that particularly inspired either my boyfriend or myself. The hollandaise sauce on my egg was greasy and the polenta was not well cooked. I think it was over-priced and average.

I think this place is a lot of fun for dinner and brunch. Elegant and high-class. I thought their fish (for dinner) was way over-priced though. Their 'filets' will only suffice for dinner if you've had an appetizer too. They are quite small. I prepare fish at home frequently, and for $10 you can buy a whole branzino fish, but at Gusto you will pay $50 for half of it. Brunch is more reasonable, and their menu gets creative.

I would recommend Gusto for brunch, entertaining friends, and business dinners, because their cocktails are yummy and the food is good. For lower-key dinners, I prefer Mary's Fishcamp (in the same neighborhood).

we live down the street and have eaten here many times for lunch and dinner, and the food is consistently terrific. the dishes are simple combinations, but are incredibly flavorful. in particular, we love the (complimentary) radishes in toasted anchovies, the romaine and fava bean salad with pecorino, the pristinely fresh seafood combination appetizer, the fresh fried donuts, and the braised peaches in amaretto with mascarpone. we haven't ordered a dish that turned out to be mediocre, yet! and the service is reliable and consistent during the lunch hours. the wine list is great -- they serve my favorite prosecco of all time -- OMBRA.

my first was by far the best and was the reason i returned with a lot of people another night, however i kind of regretted it second time around. this time i could see how the place was designed it made it kind of hard for the people working there to help.. had to get the attention of the waiters by actually going up to them..unacceptable. but the food is great, waitress not very accomodating, seemed impatient with a lot of questions, something else i find unacceptable in a place like this. i will go back here cause the menu is so eclectic, im curious as to what other tastes are offered here.. ambience too bright for my taste. PLUS the best wine can be found in the bar but they refused to sell us a bottle!! theyd only do it by the glass.. truly annoying,

my first was by far the best and was the reason i returned with a lot of people another night, however i kind of regretted it second time around. this time i could see how the place was designed it made it kind of hard for the people working there to help.. had to get the attention of the waiters by actually going up to them..unacceptable. but the food is great, waitress not very accomodating, seemed impatient with a lot of questions, something else i find unacceptable in a place like this. i will go back here cause the menu is so eclectic, im curious as to what other tastes are offered here.. ambience too bright for my taste. PLUS the best wine can be found in the bar but they refused to sell us a bottle!! theyd only do it by the glass.. truly annoying,

Pros: good food, nice location, GREAT FOOD

Cons: too bright, bad service, wine not by the bottl

.

This place has excellent food, and you pay for it. No bargain, but a value; however, the cusine is undermined by bad service, and NOISE. This may be the noisiest restaurant in NYC. And when a waiter, in answer to a question by a diner, turns to another table and asks "excuse me, do you know what this is?" or responds to a request for a wine recommendation with "it depends on what you're in the mood for," there are issues. At their price point, they need better service.

We went on friday night, and it was my second time at this restaurant.
Our hostess and the waiter were very polite, friendly, and cute, and we had the most comfortable and romantic dinner.
The service was excellent, but in a way that was laid back, which I liked very much. Time that was allowed between each course was perfect, the bottle of Pinot Bianco recommended by our waiter was excellent, and of course, every dish was delicious and fresh.
I highly recommend the stuffed and fried olive appetizer, tuna carpaccio, and bucatini. The olive appetizer was very delicious, even though normally I rarely eat olives ever!!!
Could be noisy and crowded for dinner, and making a reservation is recommended.

Welcoming hostess & delicious homemade pasta gave false hope of decent dining experience. Gusto had been featured in Food & Wine and the food did live up to the rating. However, our waiter disappeared as our entrees arrived. In a hooded sweatshirt, he walked by and casually waved ciao. His shift had ended and failed to transition to another waiter. Despite our look of confusion, he wished us ladies a great night and mentioned it was a pool tip setup. Other staff (not waiters) took plates away and tossed dessert menus on our tables in complete silence. I voiced my concerns to the manager whose only response was Oh, he must have made sure you were taken care of by somebody before he left, essentially disbelieving me. We were offered an arrogant smile with no apologies; no interest in prolonging the conversation since I interrupted him counting receipts.

My coworkers and I tried out Gusto for a recent holiday dinner. The delicious food and beautiful restaurant was completely overshadowed by the most appalling service. We were seated 45 minutes after our reservation at a table for four crammed with 6 chairs. Our waitress pretty much ignored us, brought the food out at different times, never brought over salt or pepper and messed up two of our orders. Would not go back solely due to service. Too many restaurants to choose from (especially in that area now!) to bother with that again. Too bad- food was quite good.

The food and ambience are nice enough, but the service here is appallingly bad for a restaurant that charges these prices. Our waiter was completely unfamiliar with the menu and did not bother to tell us that they were out of several items (even though we arrived at 7 pm on a Saturday night!) He then delivered three out of our four chosen entrees and todl us the "kitchen made a mistake" with the fourth entree and he would have to put in a new order for it (leaving the other three guests sitting with their entrees!) To add insult to injury, he gave our table the wrong bill and let a party of six walk out having paid the bill meant for our party of four. I agree with the review above - I would not return if they were giving out free meals.

What really kills this place is the service. Waiter took forever to come once we were seated. Bread took forever to come. Finished my drink, and no one asked if I wanted another. Constantly saw others around us looking for their waiter (b/c I kept doing the same thing). Service is just so slow, so it really throws off the pace of your meal. However, no complaints about the food...everything was above average, but not memorable. Glad I tried it once, but will not go back.

Pros: Ambience, Pretty good food, Not overpriced

Cons: Really, Bad, Service

Great atmosphere and concept, but after waiting for our reservations, front desk staff could not have been ruder, nor did they care. We walked out after waiting an hour.

Terrific. Thoughtful food, flavors that stood out in their pure simplicity. The service was good, knowledgeable, although a newbie server, she knew her stuff. Other than a hostess trying to pull the "if I stare you, you will get up so I can turn the table" it was pretty recommendable. I'd go back [in fact, I will be going for lunch this week].

Don't miss the stuffed squash blossoms, fantastic with fragrant basil, ricotta and fried artichokes, which were potato-chip crisp on the outside yet tender, fleshy and sweet on the inside.

Risotto with lemon, basil and parmesan-simple but intense. Signature meatballs with pine nuts and raisins in tomato sauce. Veal short ribs were among the best ever had. Salt cod in tomato with chick peas, wonderful.

Dessert, a smooth, fragrant pistachio gelato. Light and fresh lemon panna cotta with berries. My tiramisu was a dense creamy concoction...divine.

Great space. The menu us unusual. Bacalaw, Tripe, Pasta Con Sarda (pasta with Sardines). Three slices fennel with anchovy on top is brought to the table. No bread. Other tables were given platters of bread on arrival, we had to ask. Shared the tripe as an appetizer. Delicious. He had the Pasta Con Sarda, a St. Joseph Day traditional dish. Very tasty but a small portion. I had the Limone Risotta which was good but a small portion. The pistacchio gelato was great. Service was slow and inattentive. Had to flag someone over to give our wine order. Utensils were not replaced between courses. No napkin when we were seated, went unnoticed and I had to ask for one. For a $100 tab I was not full when I left and could have gone for another meal. Pasta and rice are not expensive, come on guys give us a break!!!!

We went to this place for sunday bruch. The food was good - but not sure whether it was worth waiting more than 30min. We waited in standing at the entrance for 5 mins to get seats due to just slow service, another 10mins to get menu, and then another 10mins to get water & bread. Then, finally our dishes!!! yes, it was very long-waiting brunch. The friendly waitress made it up by offering us a fab peach dessert .
Funny, An intalian guy (believe he is the manager) came to our table VERY QUICKLY to get our check!

We had the WORST brunch experience at Gusto! It took 1 hour to get our entrees...one of which was warmed-up meatballs from the day before. Service was almost non-existent. The only decent thing was the decor...trendy and cozy. I will NEVER go there again...not even if they were giving out free meals.

Gusto is like a breath of fresh air in the neighborhood, a cool sexy place with a great vibe. The food is fantastic- simple yet great flavors. Far superior to other Italian restaurants in the area. The fried artichokes, fava salad and octopus are excellent, as are the pastas. Too many places can't seem to do a whole fish but Gusto can. A couple of hiccups with service but the staff is really gracious. If you can't get a table- try lunch. Or sit in a tall stool at the bar and have a great martini. It's comfortable enough for a meal and you get a great view of the room. Highly recommended.

My meal at Gusto this past Friday night surpassed even the high expectations set by my dining companion, who had raved over his past experiences at this Greenwich Avenue charmer. I was immediately impressed by the warmly lit, elegantly furnished space; although there was a slight wait for our reserved table--the place was jam-packed--the charming host, Alexi, was courteous and apologetic. The ensuing dinner was definitely worth the wait; I'll be dreaming about chef Jodi Williams' extraordinary fried squash blossoms for a long time. The lamb chops were the sweetest, most succulent that I have had in recent memory; and roasted peaches in wine finished our feast off in a simple, elegant, delicious fashion. Our sweet, fresh-from-Italy server was friendly and efficient. An amazing find on a block littered with faceless, undistinguished eateries, Gusto immediately has become my favorite Village destination.

went for brunch on saturday. Server mentioned there were several bloody marys so I asked for a list. waited 10 minutes. Finally, flagged down another server and asked again for the list. He nodded as if he understood, but after a few more minutes ANOTHER employee approached the table and said, "you asked for something?". I would have given up if not for the fact that by this time, I really NEEDED a drink. The guy went away and returned not with a drink menu, but the bartender's recipe instruction card.

The food? ugh. I ordered the "nizzard" salad (nicoise basically) which for $14 was tiny and miserable: the tuna was so overcooked and dry as to be unrecognizable and frankly inedible. My husband's steak and eggs which arrived 15 minutes after I was served, were worse than those at the corner diner and about $15 more expensive.
