Excellent burgers for the price. BUT it's the old world Bergen County atmosphere that is it's strength. When I was a kid in the 50's we used to go up to the 'country' to visit relatives, and a stop at the Fireplace was always a treat. By the way, you simply can't find better onion rings, french fries, or chicken. Breakfast is good too, but their pancakes are no longer the best, since they changed their recipe back in the early 1990's. (Eat your hearts out McD's and KFC!)

Well for years now I have been hearing how great this place is and I was really hoping it would live up to the expectations, but of course no, I was disappointed. It was like all other burger places.

I disagree completely! The Fireplace is NOT any other burger place. These days, 90%+ of all hamburger places fry their hamburgers on a flat metal grill instead of charbroiling them like the Fireplace does. And the Fireplace has an almost unique condiment bar, with real Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce, real A-! Steak Sauce, pickle chips, onion slices, etc. I have lived in New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, California, Louisiana, Texas, Wisconsin, and Florida and have NEVER gone to a hamburger place just like (or as good) as the Fireplace, ANYWHERE!

Step up to the counter and order. Great grilled cheese, burgers and hot dogs. Rustic decor gives this self serve restaurant a comfy feeling. Kid friendly and lots of seats. Usually a wait for food but worth it.

they way they prepare their pizza is a bit different from regular restaurants, but whatever they do only makes it that much better. the service is not the fastest but i do love the food here

We have been dedicated patrons of The Fireplace for 20+ years, and have enjoyed everything from breakfast, highlighted by the freshly squeezed orange juice, to lunch including char-grilled burgers and chicken, and an occasional Pizza to go. Food is consistent, reasonable, and although the burgers are a little on the 'light' side relating to overall mass, the meat quality and grilling offset the deviation for normal American overindulgance.

I went here fairly often during middle school with my family. Their breakfast selection is pretty typical diner style food, and the same can be said for their lunch menu. If memory serves me correctly, their prices are on the low side, so that's a plus. I really liked the atmosphere, which was pretty cozy with its wooden interior. This is a good place for a casual meal.

Growing up in Bergen County, I actually ate at The Fireplace several years before I ever tried McDonald's (Bergen County people, being people of excellent taste, were very slow to embrace McD's). So The Fireplace taught me what an excellent, charbroiled hamburger should taste like. It remains my yardstick. The hamburgers are cooked on a giant hearth and watching the small army of cooks do their thing as the flames leap high is entertaining in itself. And considering the crowds, they are remarkably fast, something you rarely see outside the New York-New Jersey metro area. Beyond the excellent charbroiled hamburgers (I'm so spoiled I REFUSE to eat a hamburger cooked on a griddle, so opt for BK over McD's if forced to choose) The Fireplace has one of the best condiment bars I've ever seen, with A-1 Steak Sauce, Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, mustard, slices of Vidalia or Bermuda onions, and loads of pickles, with no limit on how much you can take. The restaurant is attractively rustic, with early American wooden tables and chairs and a slate floor. Believe it or not, it's not easy to get a good hamburger in some parts of the country, so whenever I return to Bergen County, The Fireplace is a mandatory stop.

Pros: Best hamburgers anywhere, excellent condiment bar, and cozy early American dining room

Cons: Tend to be always very busy, so lines at counter can get three deep.

The Fireplace has been grilling hamburgers since the 1950's. They have expanded their menus in recent years to include chicken and pizza. But their hamburgers and fries are still our favorite. They have the best pickles at their fixings bar. Another excellent choice is their steak sandwich which is served on delicious bread with a hint of garlic.

The Fireplace upholds a tradition of burgers and fries dating back the 1950s style burger joint. While still employing mostly high school students, the Fireplace serves up great burgers and fries at very reasonable prices. Try the milkshakes, too! They are great! ...and don't forget their wonderful onion rings.

The dining rooms have slate floors and wooden furniture. But it is basically a fast-food place.
The Fireplace is a fun change of pace from the usual franchise burger places! And it is right on Route 17. Great for a quick meal while heading North to skiing!
