How on earth is it legal to segregate kids based on their abilities/disabilities. This school does. It has four 'sub-schools" supposedly for a 'better learning environment' but they are asking for teasing, bullying and are destryoing self esteems in the process. Our daughter has problems that the Elementary and Middle school never addressed. We had to take her to Sylvan learning center (which was amazing!) to make up for the lack of education through the city schools. Although the city schools basically said she wasn't capable of learning, Sylvan proved them wrong.
Then to add insult to injury, when she was about to go to the 'new high school', I got her schedule. The subschool they stuck her in is called "Problem Based Learning". Yes, you heard that right.
While most schools are trying not to single out those with disabilities or problems, not only does Spfld high school single them out but they slap a big huge label on them like "problem-based'. No matter what the problem is, they are lumped into this school and give a label which encourages other students to make fun of them. The schools have never done anything to stop bullying or teasing and now they are encouraging it. Children who struggle dont need a school adding to their low self esteem.

Thank Gods we are moving. She will be going to a decent school now instead of being made to feel like an idiot by a school system that doesn't do its job.
