Huge disappointment... Express pedicure, supposedly the shorter of the two pedicures available, took FOREVER. Was in a huge rush already, and to just file my nails took 20 minutes. If you have a ton of time on your hands, then come.

I have gone to this Aveda Location many times and my service has always been great. Usually the service is done well and the entire staff is friendly. But the last time I went, I was extremely dissatisfied. Though my haircut was supposed to began at 2:30 in actuality it started at 3:15. Usually I?d be fine with this, but I had told them that I really needed to be out by 4:00. I had an event I needed to go to straight from the salon. I told the girl what I wanted to see done and she assured me she would do it. Part of the service is that they need to check with an instructor before they began any cutting or washing. The girl doing me hair (When I asked her about this rule) responded ?Oh well whatever? and shrugged it off. Then the girl doing my hair told me that she would have to ?leave? in the middle of the haircut. She left without so much as a goodbye. By now my hair was wet, and already 3:45. Another stylist took over and started cutting. I was much happier with her service than i had been with the other stylist even though she did chop off more than I wanted and hadn't given me any tips on how to style it in the future. When I arrived downstairs to pay, and asked how my service went, I told them what happened with the first stylist, and the man checking me out, said ? Oh? and that it was the end of that discussion. I left the Institute very un-satisfied with the service I received. This was the only time I have left the institute disappointed so if your willing to take the chance of being disappointed, don?t mind bad customer service, and love a cheap haircut, Aveda is a good place to go.

Pros: Cheap, Good Parking

Cons: Bad Customer Service, Un-professional stylists,

I had my hair done and a haircut at Aveda for the first time last month. The girl who did my hair did a wonderful job. I was very conservative about the haircut that time, though, as I was worried about having a student do my hair. However, after having been there, I am much more confident in their abilities, especially since they have to have a teacher approve everything. I may go with something more daring next time. $48 total for haircut and color is an amazing deal! Plus, you are not allowed to tip.

My hair (naturally light brown) is dyed blond with highlights and has been getting drier and drier over the last year or so, even after using expensive kerastase product that was recommended to me by someone at the pricey Salon XL in AA, where I'd been going for ~6 months before going to Aveda. The products the student used at Aveda worked so much better than the pricey ones that they used and recommended at Salon XL in AA (kerastase). My hair is in 100% better condition since I went to there and I will definitely be going again soon.

yes, you may be able to get a cheap haircut at douglas j but be forewarned that it is not worth it. Most of the time the student will be late taking you and by late I mean sometimes up to 1/2 hour to an 1 hour. Many times they will screw up your haircut and the instructor won't even notice it. It's all about how many people they can get in and out, not about the quality of your service. Good luck going on a Saturday, if you get a spa service it will most likely be shortened and you will still have to pay full price. If you have any problems there, their policy is never to give a refund but rather a gift certificate. Who would want to go back if you had to wait an hour and your student dyed your hair the wrong color? Don't waste your time or your cash on a place that is only in it for the money!

I have gone there several time and I would say the services and quality of the products are both good. I have gotten highlight and cuts there and the color usually turns out pretty good. I have gone to places which they have a hard time estimating how the color will turn out, so end up have to do coloring a couple of times to get it right. This place has gotten it right the first time and the cuts are not superb but they're okay for this price. I would be happy to go there again.

My exeriences at Douglas J have been good. I've gotten haircuts, tints and highlights. The cuts haven't always been life changing, but they are usually better than ok. I like the price and the products so I continue to go back. The coloring has always turned out very well.

PROS: Inexpensive, easy to get in, great products
CONS: parking

If you're looking for a haircut for a reasonable price - the Aveda Institute is the place to go! The price is around $15 for a cut and that includes shampooing and blowdrying. Since the person cutting your hair is a student - you are not allowed to tip. One nice aspect is that they have to check in with an instructor at every step of the process. It definitely helps though if you know what you want in advance.

Aveda is great for haircuts but may not be as great for manicures. The manicures are pricey and since the students don't prepare as much to do manicures sometimes they don't end up as well. However, you do get the bottle of nailpolish with your manicure.

for updos. I have always been beyond satisfied, and the prices are very decent, compared to other places. I have tried stopping in without an appt for a haircut and they couldnt fit me in, but that was understandable. I have only had updo's done there and would be more than willing to try them out for a haircut., The stylist really listend to what I wanted with the hair style and I was very very satisfied with the end result. The staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere was really comfortable, not to stuffy, but it wasnt super cuts either. You feel like your in a very nice establishment. I love the Aveda products that the salon offers, very good selection.

If you are in need of a spa experience, but cannot afford the prices, Douglas J is the place to go.

They have a full range of services from wraps to coloring to nails to stress relieving treatments. And everything is very decently priced. Haircuts are about $12; an hour long stress relieving treatment is about $35.

The services are provided by students, but they have to consult with professors before they do anything moderately permanent. Plus, they are reviewed on their services, so they are always giving their best.
