.

I recently adopted a dog from Lindsay Animal Shelter and was to pick up the dog on 1/25/08. I spent many hours locating the perfect dog. We were very fortunate to find the animal we wanted but was notified on 1/22/08 that our animal was put down. I understand the police department there has the power over the shelter and an officer walked in and ordered most of the dogs to be put down. The officer was notified of the adoption of these dogs and he said "if the people wanted them, they should have picked up the dogs".
My question is how the police have the power to over ride the community. Why was this allowed to happen and what is going to be done about it? Is this officer going to be allowed to continue this power trip? Please check and see why this man could just walk in and order the destruction of these pets that were adopted.
I had planned to move there on retirement but have reconsidered when discovering this type of corruption. Please change this town so it will be safe for for animals to live and for people to retire.
I am not certain that is the type of community I would like to live in when I would have animals that could end up in the shelter and possibly be destroyed

Pros: Caring people that volunteer in the community

Cons: No control over police officials
