Love this salon! As a man it can be uncomfortable to find a new Salon, but Blue Velvet eases you from the start. The decor is awesome, the staff extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and the haircuts the bomb! Go see Chelsea especially, and try a Brazilian Blowout. You won't be disappointed. I wasn't.

Heather is my girl! I have been going to Blue Velvet for about 3 years now. I recently moved to Long Beach but I still make the trip up to Blue Velvet. Heather is AMAZING at color. From chocolate brown, to honey blonde i have had it all. Everytime i leave my hair is PERFECT! You want perfect color go see Heather!

After moving to the North Hollywood area from Nebraska, I was dreading having to find a new hairstylist. My new Co-worker referred me to see Heather at Blue Velvet salon, and I have been a loyal client ever since.
I have light hair but i like blonde highlights, she gets my hair beautiful blonde everytime. She also gives me great cuts and is always suggesting new ideas, like adding some low lights or bangs, so i never get bord.
Heather is a cute tiny girl with blonde, blonde hair, who is so friendly and always happy to see me, she really enjoys what she does.

Pros: really casual, evening apointments, really reasonably priced

I've explored several salons in the last few years, and one day I just decided to pop into Blue Velvet. I always thought this place was really cute when I passed by so one day I looked online at their website and decided to go in for a shot. I thought to myself, whats the worse that can happen? Come out bald?! YIKES! OK,well I guess that IS probably one of the worse thing that can happen!!!! haha But I took my chances.

I remembered seeing a stylist with extremely blond hair (Heather).... since I wanted white blond hair myself, I thought she would be the best stylist for me - assuming that since she didn't burn her head bald by going blond, that my precious head will be safe in her little hands.

Well since that day, this has been my salon for the past 2 years and Heather is my girl! She's awesome. She has taken my hair to extremes when I wanted it and toned it down when I was over it. The stylist I went to before at a different salon was too afraid to take risks. That might suit some people, but not for me. Blue Velvet is great and if Heather ever decides to move to another salon for any reason, I am following her!

Btw... The owners dog Andy is so adorable. Every so often I have the pleasure to see that little guy there.

I went to Anna for the first time yesterday, which was scarey because I'm very particular about my hair. My old stylist lives to far from me, and she really only did an okay job anyway. I found all of these raving reviews on citysearch and I decided to try them out since they are so close to my house. Anna highlighted my hair like I've never seen before... no blotchy color, no brassiness, no repeat application of bleach. My hair turned out ash blonde, bouncy, and beautiful! My boyfriend is as picky as me, and he even raved about it! If you want perfectly blonde hair with no bullsh**, see Anna immediately!!!

Anna is the best hairstylist I have ever had. She is simply astonishing. She has been doing my hair for 3 years now. I had different hairstyles done by her. She took me from brown to blond, from blond to brunette, from short to long extensions, and all of it looked amazing. She is they type that wont talk your ear off, she lets you relax and enjoy your day at the salon. She won?t lie to you just to get a hairstyle done, she will tell you the truth of what style will compliment your face and trend. I HIGHLY recommend her. Also, the salon had an amazing vibe!

I went into this salon on a Tuesday, being early in the week I was kinda tired and not so pumped about getting my hair done and sitting in a chair for hours. I was greeted right away by a friendly stylist and got my hair done by Chelsea. She's the best! I am now the proud owner of custom mixed blue/turquoise highlights! I get a lot of compliments on my hair and have recommended Blue Velvet to everyone I can...

I love going to Blue Velvet. I have been going to Heather for years now. In the few years i have been seeing Heather, my hair has been changed from, blonde, red then a carmel brown, then back to blonde, all of which have been beautiful. Heather is truely talented. I look forward to my appointments at Blue Velvet, all the girls that work there are really nice, i truely feel like i'm hanging out with my girlfriends,

I love this salon! All the people there are so friendly and it has a great vibe. I felt so at home. I have been going to Bryan for at least 5 years. He is amazing with color/cut and has the best training you can get. I was wasting my money til I found this guy. For what he charges I feel like I am getting an AMAZING deal. I have landed many jobs for modeling and they always tell me my hair is really awesome, and ask where I get it done. I am happy to refer anyone! You won't be disappointed. He doesn't take walk-ins so be sure to call ahead and make and appointment!!!

I have been a committed customer of Bryan Cummins for over 6 years now! He is amazing. What I love about Bryan is that he is truly talented and creative. He gives me cuts that last and is also very good at color. And best of all I always feel so beautiful after he has done his magic. My sister, mother, boyfriend and various friends now are customers and fans of his work. Which also goes to show he can do a variety of styles, shapes and colors. I highly recommend Bryan to anyone who is looking for a hairdresser that is talented, kind and fun. And the Blue Velvet salon is great environment. Everyone has a smile.

Blue Velvet Salon is a groovy place to get your hair done. Brian Cummins is an amazing stylist. Brian has been my stylist for over 3 years. I highly recommend him to anyone! He knows how to work with curly hair and does amazing things with color. He always gives me personal attention, makes me feel comfortable, and recommends products to make my hair healthy, soft and shiny. I am never disappointed. Thank you, Brian! YOU ROCK!

I have been coming to this salon for a few months and I love everything about it. All of the stylists I have met are super friendly and extremely talented from what I have seen so far. Bryan Cummins has been my hair stylist for about 5 years and he is so amazing I can't even describe how much I love everything he has ever done to my hair and how happy I am with him. I have had many different hair colors and styles so he's really good at helping me decide what to do with next with my hair (cut, color, extensions, styling.. basically everything). The salon itself is kind of like a mini art gallery, lots of fun artwork to look at while you're hanging out and getting your hair done. Thanks Bryan for everything your great. =) -Annemarie

I have been only been going to this salon for about a year now but I love it! It is a very hip salon and makes you feel right at home. My go to guy here is Bryan Cummins. I have been going to him for years! He does an amazing job. He does amazing Color and Cuts. Make sure you call and make an appointment first because I don't think he takes walk in's. You will enjoy!

Everyone makes me feel ultra-comfortable, which is important because I'm not the type to spend a lot on my hair or spend a lot of time in spas and all. I was referred to this shop by a friend who found it on line. Just moved here and tried a couple of places that I wasn't thrilled with. I got highlights and a blow-dry. I was really happy, liked my stylist and my hair, it looked natural. Will definitely go back. My highlights looked sunny and bright and my haircut was suggested by the stylist, new for me but more modern and easy to fix. I liked their late night hours.

this is a salon that ultimately thinks it's much better than it is when getting my hair done the stylist did not do what was asked ,she simply did what was easier for her to achieve and still taking 3 hours , in need of an assistant she kept me in the chair for an ungodly amount of time did not do what was asked and did not tell me the price until the end of everything 250.00 for highlights that were not done properly a staff that was very slow and lax I would never go back, this is 2 thumbs down in my opinion, maybe hair cuts are ok but after all that time I really wanted out of the chair, I also heard a lady complaining of her bleach job and how it was so brassy the owner said it was supposed to be like that :( i would not recomend this place

I saw the number of great reviews and tried out this salon - looking for a great place - since my hairdesser just left. I was a little off put by the terrible time I had finding parking - but tried to leave that behind .... Unfortuately. that was the best part of my appointment . Sadly , I had a really rough time- my stylist was really late, no one seemed to care and then after finally getting started- there was another delay . I tried to be positive thinking it isn't a big deal - my hair will be pretty. But after dying my hair I had dye left on my face ( not a look I could not recreate in the confort of my own apartment for 1/6th the price) that no one could be bothered to deal with.

At the end I was just so happy to get out of there and never look back.

i wouldn't have posted this - but I didn't want anyone else to have a similar shocking experience.

I am a guy who recently got a brazillian wax from Gwen. First off she is really cute which I thought might be a problem if you know what I mean. She was very professional at all times and explained everthything. Once you get past the akwardness and the positioning and the first initial pulling off of the hair, the procedure was not really bad at all. She was very fast and thorough and made conversation which made it extremely easier on me. I would recommend any guy that wants to do this to go see Gwen.

It has finally been one year since I was introduced to Blue Velvet Salon and I can't believe I found this awesome Salon. I was amazed to see the art work, the friendly welcomes, and the great taste of styles they each possessed!
I first came to get a hair cut. I started with something small, such as a (bangs) hair cut, (but of course we all need to test the water before we take the finally dive) but I was very proud of my new changed look. I told Heather at Blue Velvet, it has been 12 years since I had a bangs hair cut, so she sat me back and let me explain, and off she went! She did a fabulous job. Heather was very help full, kind, and understanding. So I started to slowly slip in and let Blue Velvet?s Team do their works. I have a Fantastic hair dye, a cute and stylish hair cut and new eyebrows.
Let me tell you one little thing about waxing your eyebrows. You?re either red, irritated from the wax, or just badly worked over. Gwen is someone that takes pride in her art; she has never let me down and she will always do her very best to make you look remarkable. Gwen has always been helpful, kind, gentle, funny, and unique. She is brilliant at her job. So if you ever need a Aesthetician, go and see Gwen at Blue Velvet.
I am very pleased to be a customer at Blue Velvet.

A girlfriend of mine along time ago got me into waxing my eyebrows..Truthfully I went routinely after that every 2 weeks! But I hated the pain and the swelling! It took forever to go down! But one day my best friend she tells me her hair salon does waxing also! So I went with her one day and thats when I met Gwen!!! Seriously I am a single guy who is not scared to admit to waxing his brows! I walk in and out of there in minutes and Ive never had such a great wax! There always the way I want them, She really knows how to take care of her customers! Seriously Ive gone to a few places to! Spent all kinds of amounts! Been through different kinds of pain! But Gwen Is gentle, kind and she does damn good work!!! Blue Velvet is very Lucky to have her! She Rocks!!! Im actually gonna get a facial from her soon too! I heard shes great!! But instead im buying my best friend hers!
Also, Everyone one of those girls are soo sweet and nice! There great! always making sure your ok when your just sitting down and waiting they offer you water, tea and all! They are all awesome! Heather that Includes You! Id give you ALL a Big Warm Bear Hug!! :) Thank You Ladies!

I went to Blue Velvet for a hair cut and color. I was nervous for a new stylist but immediately felt comfortable with Katrina. I like to add punky color streaks and these colors actually last and do not wash out right away. Katrina is amazing. She has so much experience and it shows. I leave the salon feeling beautiful. I recommend Blue Velvet salon to anyone wanting fabulous hair.

The first review I wrote was very positive. I left with a great cut and great color despite the vibe of the salon. Second time I went back, I left somewhat disappointed but too shy to say anything. My hairdresser seemed "off". I think she's a doll and I would go back to her despite the not so great color and cut but the salon needs some serious etiquette lessons. Salons are notorious for being snotty..I get it but when I'm spending almost 200 plus dollars and I've spent 600 dollars on my hair, I do expect courtesy. To get my last appt, I called the salon 3 times. Finally a call back. When I went in for my appt, I was not welcomed. I let it go. When I left, I looked like I had my hair frosted and my hair was uneven, not quite the look I was going for. I also woke up the next day with a fungus hive infection that lasted two weeks and was told that I did get it from someone or something. I had something similar prior to my appt from stress, but nothing like what I went through. I left an emergency message on the voicemail of the salon for my stylist, whom I ended up speaking to but the salon never called me back. Today when I went to make an appt to have it re-done, I just felt unwelcomed again and felt I needed to compromise what I wanted in order to get it fit in. I'd rather be told someone is unavailable. I also left a message on their vm and emailed them for an appt- granted not with a lot of time- so that's my doing.

It's really disappointing with the quality of the salon. I had the potential to bring a tv show, and a great deal of business their way but they are rude and for a salon located in in studio city, they really don't have the right to carry a Beverly Hills attitude- ps. got hung up on twice today trying to reschedule- to which point, I just said no thanks. Erin- you're a really good stylist that had an off day with me- best of luck.

I went in on a whim after reading the reviews on Citysearch and decided to get my legs waxed for the first time ever. The receptionist was really nice and got me a same day appointment. I only had to wait about 10 minutes, not bad.

When Gwen took me back to her room I told her I was a newbie and was a bit nervous, but she calmed my fears and made me feel very comfortable. Although the waxing process was rather painful (Hey, I'll be honest!) she made it quick and easy.

I found Erin by chance in December (she had just started). She is fabulous! Ever since I have been going to her my hair has actually been growing without breaking off. She takes extra care in trying to keep your hair as healthy as possible while undergoing all the color and highlights. The time passes by quickly while you are in her chair as she is very personable. I recommended her to a few of my friends and they all love her too. If you are looking for a new stylist then you should definitely give Erin a try.

I have been going to Blue Velvet for years now. Since i'm a student and i'm on a budget i don't get to go as much as i would like to. I always see Heather and she is great! she is super sweet and takes her time to listen to you. Everyone is friendly and its a very relaxed environment. The art work on the walls is always changing, and they ofter beer and wine! If you want great hair go to Blue Velvet and see Heather!

I love Blue Velvet! The atmosphere reminds me of a slumber party and the stylists are very friendly. Megan is my stylist and I love the fact she took time to come sit with me while I waited and chatted with me about my hair, my routine and what kind of cut I wanted. The girls are chatty but not overly so, and it is just a great, relaxing atmosphere. The later hours (they close at 9pm some days) works for me since I can't make it in to the salon until after 7pm on weeknights.

Pros: Ambience, staff is friendly but not pushy, prices are reasonable, service fantastic!

Cons: parking is a little tight, but totally worth the hassle.

I came into blue velvet a burnette wanting to be a blonde...
I saw Heather who told me that my hair was considered a "color correction" explained to me how she could get me the blonde shade i wanted. A few different processes and a couple hours later i was a sandy blonde with hightlights just how i wanted. No brass! Heather told me that the color would only get better and more stable each time i get it done. I'm really happy i found Heather, she is super sweet and really honest. She really wants you to be happy! I'm thrilled to be blonde! and to have found a great new salon and stylist!

I have been going to Heather for years and she is the best! she always takes time to talk to you about your hair, how it has been, and any new concerns.... If your interested in a color change she always goes over the color books with you and helps you find the perfect colors for your skin tones. i always feel like Heather really cares and wants me to be happy and look beautiful when i leave. Heather is great at both color and cutting, I have never been disapointed. She is also really down to earth, she isn't one of those stylist that and talk about themselves! She's also a great listener! go see Heather and you will not be disapointed!

To be fare, I found my experience pretty good. My stylist was really nice and my hair came out great. They are really busy so they're not really in your face waiting on you hand and foot, just down to earth people and a very relaxed atmosphere. If your into being waited on this is not your place, but it is full of talented girls, lots of great hair walking out. That's most important to me, I want to look good! As for the gossip..IT'S A HAIR SALON! They served me a Pabst, that was cool.

I came to this salon based on reviews that I had read and wanting a salon in my area. The staff was more interested in gossiping amongst themselves than helping me with my needs and tried to upsell me products that i did not need. My haircut was aweful and the color was not much better. I would rather drive out of my way to the city, than come here again. I would highly recommend the entire staff to take a course in Customer Service...

To date this is my "FAV" salon after 13 years in LA (Native New Yorker). Megan is the "Bomb" who is a top
notch stylist and colorist. I love the vibe with art on the walls, great music, open floor space and friendly clients and salon stylist. Flexible hours make it easy to book an appointment for us busy gals about town. No heavy
product sales or extra hair treatments to jack up the overall price. After my first visit for a color with highlights and a great short style cut I received a lot of positive feedback from my tribe mate and friends. I have been back
several times and never been bummed out by a bad hairdo. I have always walked out feeling just Fabulous!

When I moved here from the east coast, and needed to find a new stylist, a close friend recommended Shanna at Blue Velvet. I can't speak for the other staff members at the salon, because I'm never going to another hair stylist as long as I live in the LA! Shanna is very nice, friendly and hip. She is very up on new and extreme styles and very honest in letting you know what will look good... and always has fun new ideas that you never thought possible for you. In addition to her skills at cutting and shaping your hair, she is an amazing colorist, always recommending new hip colors. What also makes me feel comfortable is that Shanna is very educated in hair care, and continues her education frequently, attending different seminars and workshops, learning about the latest products and techniques on a regular basis. I feel comfortable with the health of my hair in Shanna's hands. In addition, Shanna is a really great person, who really cares about her clients... not just her client's business.

I have read one other review that bashes the parking situation. Although it's not the best parking in the world, it has never been too big of a concern or made me late for an appointment... you just need to open your eyes, and maybe circle the block once or twice if that. Sure, I'd love a better parking situation, but it isn't even a concern compared to the experience you'll get at Blue Velvet.

What it all comes down to is trust. Your hair is an important thing... it's your hair! You need to be able to go someplace with a professional who knows their stuff and their styles and will make your hair look great... where you feel comfortable enough to sit back and trust that what they're going to do is going to work for you. I have complete trust in Shanna, and am never nervous about leaving her chair with my hair looking good. That is why I will never go to another stylist as long as I'm living in LA.

Visited after the good reviews. I enjoyed meeting my stylist, but she was rather distracted with family at the salon. The color & highlights were pretty solid, but the cut was barely a trim. I didn't see any reshaping after it was complete or afterwards when I tried to recreate it myself at home. Everyone was pretty nice, but felt like I was an outsider since it was my first time there. Wish I had been welcomed a bit more...

I specitfically look for a cool, down-to-earth place to get my hair done, because curly hair getting highlighted is a very humbling experience. This place is NOT pompous, fake or pretentious. Thank goodness!!! The ladies at BV were very attentive to my needs, and Shanna, who looks like Pink's hotter, younger sister, really knows what she is doing. She has strong, definite opinions that she is willing to share about the possiblilities with your new style/color, and they are fantastic. I live in NY and have had many, many hair dressers. I would highly recommend Shanna for the curlygirl crowd. She knows what she is doing!!! And the prices are good too:) Parking was difficult, but hey, you are in CA! Worth every minute of it.

after having my hair ruined, I had to find a quick solution. I decided to pick up lunch from my favorite restaurant and go home and do my own color. I peaked in Blue Velvet and just got a really good feeling about the salon. I was so happy that the owner had time for me later that day. She was SO FRIENDLY and looked like she knew what she was doing. I knew that anything would be better than what I had. Katrina is a miracle worker. She definitely mastered her craft and was so HUMBLE; LOVE THAT !!!!
She fixed my horrible highlights and evened out my previous uneven cut. I'm so pleased with my hair. Nice to know that you don't need to spend a lot of money and still get really good hair without all the attitude and snobby hairstylists.
I've sent a couple of my girlfriends to her and they all look gorgeous. The salon is really unique with a very friendly staff. It's nice to see that people who work together actually enjoy each other's company. This was a delight . Not only I found a new salon, but it's next door to my favorite restaurant !!!!

I found this salon right when I moved to the area about 6 or 7 months ago and I was referred to Heather to do my hair. She is a great listener and really understands what I want with my hair. I could not be more happy with a stylist! I love my hair and I love Heather. The prices are very fair compared to other salons around the area that are just going to charge you a lot for nothing special so they can pay their rent! I highly reccoment this place and the other stylists here as well.

I moved to Southern California almost a year ago and have not be able to find a salon that i'd go back to. There either too expensive, snobbish or the stylist flat out don't listen to what i want. I went to Blue Velvet after reading such possitve reviews here on city search. My stylist Heather took her time talking with me so she would understand what i wanted. I had a great experience my hight lights are beautiful and the color i wanted them, no brass!!! My hair cut is great too!!! If your looking for a hairstylist who will listen to you go see Heather at Blue Velvet!!!!

I came to Blue velvet to have my hair colored and find out about hair extentions. Heather did my color and talked to me about the extentions she does. My color turned out perfect and Heather was so nice and honest that I decided to book an appointment for extentions.

I'm SO glad i did. My hair is now full, long and lusious! It took a few hours to put them all in but well worth it, and the price was alot less then i thought it would be. Heather is so talented! If you want to great color and extentions go see Heather!

Pros: great color / extentions, good prices, great staff...

I had an appointment at BLUE VELVET last week, but had the hardest time trying to find parking in that area, they told me there's parking in the back lot, and I waited for 25 min but it was full. I ended up parking in an Alley. I wish they were more helpful in the parking situation.

I had my hair done here a few months ago. The salon was cool and my stylist was really nice but the my highlights were muddy and far away from my scalp. I recieved a flyer in the mail for a discount, the guy who did my hair left so i decided to try again. I'm so glad that i did! My highlights are now beautiful and bright! My hair looks fantastic! I'm so happy i went back!

Pros: great location, open til 9pm 2 nights a week, friendly staff

Cons: none i can think of
