First, let me say this- this is a fast-food style Japanese restaurant, not Nobu. If you want high-quality sushi go down a couple blocks and eat at Kushiyu.

This is a great quickie sushi-teriyaki type place. You get alot for what you're paying for here. We've been here at least once a month for the last 6-7 months and it's been good each time. The food is fresh and tastey. The tempura has never been greasy, the teriyaki has a nice char on it and the sauce is on the side so it's not overly sweet. The rolls are good with fresh tasting fish. The people who work here have always been nice, very helpful and have many times given us things with out charging extra for it (not by mistake, they told us they didn't charge us extra for them).

Overall, nice people and good food and a great price.

Pros: Good food, clean, very friendly service

Cons: Closed Sundays

I have been eating here for about 2 years now and I love it! I've loved it since my very first visit. The people are super nice and the food is always delicious and make quickly. It is also very clean. I come here a lot and I don't have any complaints. However, I bought a boba once and it could have been better.... but whatever... the food is AMAZING!!! Everything you order tastes great and you get large portions for low prices. There's a place in van nuys with the same name near the sherman oaks hospital and they serve the same stuff... but this place is definatly much better. I highly recommend this place if you want quick Japanese food that tastes great.
oh and they have super cheap and fresh california rolls! YUMMY!

Pros: great service, great food, low prices

Food: Fairly decent. Everything here -- the menu, the combos, the food -- is a carbon copy of the "California Roll & Sushi" chain. The quality of the food is pretty good for a fast food place...it gets ready relatively quickly and seems fresh. The portions are pretty good for the price as well.

Service:
It doesn't take much to please a customer at a semi-fast food joint like this, but the employees (especially the guy usually taking orders/running the cash register) really seem to expect too much from *you*.

Those who know me know that I'm usually an overtipper (I've been known to give more than 100% tips for good service), but the employees at BBQ Teriyaki (the Tarzana location) make it SOOO obvious that they want your tip that even the basic double-the-tax amount seems too much (given their indifferent attitude). I've been there 4 times (for takeout), and the exact same thing happened to me every single time:

1) The guy taking orders seems distracted (even though I'm the only present customer), and after you tell him what you want, he says "number ##, right?" under his breath. When you say "excuse me?", he repeats the same thing as if you're stupid. Oh-kay then.
2) Your food gets ready, and comes time to pay. At this point if your order is for, say, $10.50 and you give him $11 in cash, he will sigh (quiet loudly), look at his co-worker, roll his eyes, shake his head and THEN give you your change. Why? Because in his mind the most he'll get tipped is the change he's giving out. Sometimes he'll even try the old "I don't have enough change for that" routine, but when that doesn't work, he'll pull out the exact change and give it to you. And this is for a *takeout* order. Wow.

Even though I still always leave a couple of bucks in the tip jar (which should really be called the "I rang you up and that's a LOT of work" jar), I always feel like telling him "dude, be a little less demanding and a little more subtle, please!"

Cons: Employees (especially the order-taker/casheir) are indifferent and condescending.
