Our whole family just adores the Mauna Lani. The warm tropical breezes flow throughout the hotel, and seemingly infuse staff and guests alike with friendliness and "aloha" spirit. The hotel and grounds are kept in excellent shape and are a pleasure to explore. Our kids love the Kids Camp and the various outings that are included. The rooms have lots of nice amenities, but can feel a little crowded for a long stay (perhaps the condos are a better choice for this?). Our favorite thing is to spend the early mornings and early evenings (until sunset) at the beach, when the crowds are thin. We often eat our dinner down at the beach, playing in the water and enjoying the sunset. It is very tranquil. We also like the effort to highlight the local cultural heritage of this particular spot. As with many resorts on the Kohala Coast, it is long drive to just about anywhere...but the exploration is definitely worth it. We prefer the high-end restaurants at some of the other resorts to the Canoe House at the Mauna Lani, but that is personal preference (we've had only great experiences at the Mauna Lani restaurants). Older kids (9 and up) will likely prefer other beaches around the island rather than the protected coves near the Mauna Lani. We always go look at the other resorts when we visit, then we always come back to the Mauna Lani ("why change?").
