Kani Japanese Steak House is a great place for a dinner date or a night out. The service is fast and the atmosphere is clean. They offer many sushi options and for those of you who do not like ginger dressing, the also offer ranch (since I don't like ginger, this is a big deal to me).

I love Kani House! I make my fiancee take me there twice a month!! Everything is good, I cannot choose a favorite! The rice is spectacular! The chicken, shrimp, and filet is to die for! I am so glad Dalton now has a japanese restaurant! It is a bit expensive, but the trick is to go at lunch and the portions are the same just cheaper prices!

My fiance and I choose to eat Japanese last night 05-17-2008 at Kani in Dalton Ga. The rice and the sweet tea were the two best things that we were served. The Sushi was not very good quality. The tempura was ok, nothing to write home about. The fried veggies were scorched and so was the shrimp and filet that I had. My fiances salmon was absolutely the smallest piece of salmon that either of us had ever seen and his shrimp were also scorched. The cook had the grill turned up WAY too high and burned everything that was placed on it... And all of this for the low low price of $72.00.... We will NOT be returning to see if they make improvements. I would not suggest this to anyone EVER.

At least I hope I can forget the food. The fried rice languished on the grill a bit too long before it was finished, and developed a good number of hard-burnt grains mixed throughout. The fish got crusty and tough from its location on the hibachi that was a bit too warm for the thickness of the filet, and the chicken dried out and got tough. An addition to my sentiment that it's never worth staying in Dalton for decent food, especially when it turns out to be budget-quality at a 3-star price. In my experience with a number of Japanese-style restaurants in several states, even all of the express-style places I've been to have well surpassed the quality of food here. Also, since the previous reviewer's visit, their chefs' tableside form has not improved.

Pros: Um... It's closer than anywhere decent, I guess...

Cons: Poorly cooked food; Overpriced

My wife and I frequent Japanese steak houses. We found the Kani House an average experience. Soup ok, Salad dressing was not great (we like ginger dressing but not theirs), fried rice was very dry and bland, the filet was ok (a little tough not the best quality), the chicken was very good (taste and quality). The chef did a small show but was not seasoned. I do not discount the rating for this because they have to learn and improve their acts. They should confine these amateurs to lunch though.
