I am giving Shiki a one star due to the fact that they violated the law by not allowing a diner with a service animal to enter the restaraunt. Shiki owner, managers and employees need to get up to speed on laws requiring you to allow access for people with service dogs!! I will not be going to any Shiki restaraunts until I hear all their employees have been educated. This incident happened at the Shiki on Venture Lane in Statesville.

I really love this restaurant! Been there several times for both lunch and dinner and their food is excellent. Must get their egg drop soup! Very clean and staff is friendly! A++!

i've been here several times and always loved it. the hibachi dishes are excellent. I'm not crazy about the ginger dressing but that's the only bad thing I can come up with. they don't cook in front of you, which I personally like, because i don't stink when I leave and we don't have to sit with strangers. most dishes are around $7 with rice, sweet carrots and veggies or mushrooms.

The atmosphere is very nice with high faux painted ceilings and traditional sparse decorations. I should point out that I live on the west coast and was in Charlotte on business.
The menu is basically "teppan" and "hibachi" (grill/stir fry)with very limited sushi. They have only 3 nigiri choices and a few rolls. If you are looking for soba or udon or sukiyaki or yakisoba you are out of luck.
The sushi rice was smaller than average and could use much more flavor. It tended to crumble when handled. The sake and maguro toppings were fresh, well chilled and flavorful.
The salad was on the soggy side and fairly limp with non-traditional mixed shredded cheese on top. The ginger dressing was mild but a bit grainier than I like.
The onion soup was flavorful with a strong peppery overtone with plenty of onion.
The main course was served nice and hot. The presentation was ruined though by the plastic container of dipping sauce. A ceramic cup like the tea cups would have been much nicer. The vegetables were just a bit overcooked as was the steak. The scallops were grilled just right.
It was a light evening and the service was brisk and good and they seemed very attentive.
I was surprised that I had to ask for chopsticks.
Overall it was a very nice meal and reasonably priced for the value.
