.

Hit me for nearly $500 to fix a failed A/C capacitor that costs $30 and less than 15 minutes to diagnose and replace.

They turn up promptly, diagnose the problem in less than 10 minutes. I'm told that to replace the part (capacitor) is nearly $500 for parts an labor. Not knowing anything about A/C, and desperate to get my 16 month baby girl cool again (it's 98 in the house), I tell them to do the work.

Not more than 10 minutes later the guy is writing out my invoice. He doesn't even check that the A/C is blowing cold.

Long story short - I keep the part he replaced and check online for the cost. I figure it's gotta be like $200 - $250. No. It's around $30. Attempts to reconcile with Around the Clock have failed so far with rudeness and threats.

Advice: If any A/C contractor tells you you've got a blown capacitor - DO NOT PAY MORE THAN $150 for the repair.

PROS: They didn't fall off the roof
CONS: Duh
