Fourth visit. This was to be our first time "to go." The over-tattooed "help" at the counter asked if it was here or to go and we both responded "to go." She said, "look in the case and then I'll come to your table to take your order." We both thought that was odd, but sat down. Then the princess brings over menus and waters. My wife said, "We're just getting a to go order," to which the clearly out-of-it server said, "Well now that you're here, you might as well look." We'd just had drinks and lunch elsewhere. So we ordered a dessert and sat there and ate. And waited. And waited. We thought maybe she misunderstood, but part of me wonders if she didn't just do that to try to get us to drink. Finally, I put enough cash on the table to cover the dessert and a more-than-generous 20% tip. Suddenly she noticed us. "You haven't paid yet," she yelled in front of everyone. "Yes I have. It's on the table," I said, closing the door. I was tempted to go back in and remove her tip.

Pros: desserts are good

Cons: overpriced, identity problem, always bad service

Amazing deserts! Awesome cocktails! Great chocolates! I love both locations and have really enjoyed going here, though at times it can be really crowded. The bacon-dates are also incredible.

I love that I can stroll in early for a coffee and some breakfast, and end my day with a glass of wine and some fine chocolate.

This patisserie rocks my world. I go here pretty often for coffee in the morninging, and drinks at night when this place gets crazy fun. The servers are sweet, casual (not rude) and are friendliest when they're treated like human beings. I've seen customers act like spoiled two-year-olds if pix is out of a certain macaroon flavor - it makes me sad, too, but I'm not going to get all freaky about it.
Enough with the negative - their desserts are delishus! I love their blue cheese truffles (!!!) and the royale best of all. Full bar, yummy chocolate, cute servers - maybe this is what heaven is like.

Pros: handmade yummies for reasonable prices

Cons: not open 24 hours

There are way better places on Division with way better food and way better prices. Lower your prices and I might come back.

Perfect desserts in a very intimate atmosphere. I love this place. Try any of the desserts, and you won't be disappointed. I love the combinations of flavors and interestingly shaped desserts. Reasonably priced for such fantastic food.

i have been to Pix 3 times. Each time the service is horrible and on the latest try the desserts were all stale. Regarding service, you are asked to check out the display case then sit down and someone will take your order. That is if they do not forget you. It takes then 30 minutes or more to even take your order, regardless of whether they are busy or not. The staff, with the exception of the bakers seem very slow and surly. Even the owner seemed annoyed that we wanted to look at the desserts in the display case a scond time. I simply do not understand why one would choose to run a public business in this manner. One our first trip no one waited on us until a new staff came on and he asked if we had been helped. The also ran out of macroons once while we were there, which was frustrating. One our second visit we did get to try them, and while very beautiful they were also too sweet. We had raspberry ones and myself and my friends could only detect sugar. The St. Honore cake was good in parts, but the caramelized bottoms were burnt! One good note: The rosemary ganache tart with port reduction was great. Also, the place seems to be, well, dirty. Fruit flies in some of the display cases and the wallpaper looks dirty. This place seems to be getting worse, so I recommend you pass.

All the delicious deserts you can imagine. It's located right next to the 5th Quadrant so you can go there for dinner and a drink and then head over to Pix for dessert.

The new Pix location is fantastic. It larger and brighter. The deserts are still fabulous and the service is great. If you like the original Pix, the new one is Pix squared.

I never write reviews, but I feel I must defend this patisserie.
I am a regular at Pix in the North because of its unique desserts and delicious bar. The servers there are always friendly to us whenever we go in and are a delight to talk with, always mentioning their preferences with enthusiasm that show how much they like where they work. The desserts are as good as they describe, and consistently that way. Their pairings of drinks with the desserts are right on. There is no other place in Portland that has such an fantastic atmosphere, enthusiastic staff and delectable offerings! I will continue to go here and bring my friends.

My favorite spot to meet a friend in the evening. Not usually too crowded, friendly, fun, and with always "just the right thing", whether your'e in the mood for a drink, some tea, or a surprising, elegant little dessert. I never feel rushed, and while the pastries are certainly proud of their whimsy (as well they should be) they are not too precious because they really deliver on flavor, texture and quality. The "tiki tiki" is my favorite, with a lovely tart mango to balance the sweet and creamy elements. I have also ordered big versions of it for birthday parties, and have always been impressed with the artistry of these "enlargements" The only drawback, I have on several occasions arrived for a good late night gab with a friend to discover they are screening some loud movie, (last time it was "the Terminator"). Fun, I guess, but not what I go there for.

As a dessert lover and a resident of North Portland I was eager to give this place a try. Coffee, desserts, open late, what more could you ask for?? I'll tell you....my experience was so bad, it promted me to write this, my first city search review.

The service was awful, it was loud and cramped. Although I was still encouraged by the lovely dessert case until we got our order.

I had a dessert they described as being better than tiramisu; which it was not. It was dry and lacked flavor.

However, the main reason we will not be back was the HAIR my husband found in his Queen of Sheba dessert. Not only the hair itself, but the lack of appropriate reaction from the staff. The first server we called over actually picked it up off his plate and said, "oh" as she wiped it on her apron and walked off. Literally. I thought she was going to get our regular server, which she did not. He was just as unmoved by the situation and seemed to be put off by the whole thing. When he brought me the bill and the $8 dessert was not removed, I just about came unglued. When I informed him I would not be paying for a dessert with hair in it, he adjusted the bill, dropped it on our table and walked off.
Horrible service is an understatment.
However, based on the large crowd of people coming through the door who had clearly had their fair share of alcohol at dinner and were looking for more to round out the night; this place might just be sustained until the next trendy, over rated North Portland coffee/dessert spot comes along.

Cons: SERVICE is Horrible, prices are high, cramped space

Don't get me wrong, Pix has great dessert and acceptable customer service, but I have two gripes. I experienced these problems each and every of the six times I've been to the North Portland location.

First, the music is too loud. In a cafe, the music should be loud enough to provide color to the atmosphere, and something to listen to during a conversational lull. In a dance club, it should be the primary sensation. At Pix, it's loud enough so that when the place fills up, you have to shout to speak over the music and shout really loudly to talk to someone more than a few feet from you.

Secondly, the ventillation is poor. Not only will your clothes smell like fried grease when you leave, but as you're savoring some subtle flavor of almond, you'll be overpowered by the aroma of burning butter on the panini griller (which is in the same smallish space as the dining area). Since taste is highly dependant on smell, this was a big detractor for me and also for the people at my table. They should move this machine to the back of the kitchen or just not offer fried food.

I recommend the hot chocolate with tequilla. I know,it sounds odd, but believe me you should try it on a cold night.
