.

An au pair, aged between 18-26, lives with her (or his) host family for one year. These young people come to the United States from all over the world. They take care of the family's children for a maximum or 45 hours per week, and for this service, they earn a stipend of a minimum of $139.05 per week.
This is a cultural exchange program, and usually works out to be a true win-win for both the host family and the au pair. The host family gets affordable live-in child care, with the added bonus of exposing the children to another culture, language, and customs. Your children grow up learning about other parts of the world and with the realization that there is a big world out there, beyond Denver, Colorado. The au pair polishes up her English skills, learns a great deal about Americans and American culture.
I have been involved with this program for six years and au pairs always comment about thow dramatically their views regarding Americans change during the year. They realize how hard Americans work, how much we give and volunteer, and how much we care. They return to their home countries as ambassadors for the United States, spreading the news that Americans are not as they might appear from TV or movies. And frequently, host families travel to their au pair's country to visit. A trip to France, Germany, Brazil with a guide who lived with you as a member of your family is a special opportunity!
Au Pair USA is dedicated to the many benefits that result from cultural exchange, providing American families with affordable, reliable, dependable live-in child care. I encourage you to look into Au Pair USA and see if the au pair child care option is right for your family.
