My friend and I always go to this restaurant and never have a problem with it, but problem started tonight. We wait for 30min to get sit down. When we finish eating and pay the bill, i give a $3 tip and the bill is $26.

PLACE IS TOO CROWDED AND CRAMPED. FAST SERVICE. FOOD WASN'T THAT GREAT. WE ORDERED KOREAN BBQ TO GET THE EXPERIENCE OF GRILLING OUR OWN FOOD, BUT THEY SAT US AT SUCH A TINY TABLE THAT THE GUY HAD TO COOK IT IN THE KITCHEN FOR US. NO ROOM LEFT ON THE TABLE AFTER THEY PUT DOWN THE SIDE DISHES AND 2 GLASSES OF WATER.

SO MUCH FOR MY KOREAN "BARBECUE" EXPERIENCE.

Pros: RELATIVELY CHEAPER THAN OTHERS IN THE AREA

Cons: LOUD, CRAMPED

.

We ordered an expensive BBQ set along with rice for several people.
They decided to serve us COLD rice, which we requested to be changed.
Out came lukewarm rice, obviously reheated in some microwave....out came their manager and assured us that they are making a new pan to be served fresh & hot...
so we stacked the bowls and they took them away.

To our surprise, they did the same thing by reheating them LONGER in the microwave....

WHAT A JOKE.

Obviously we didn't pay any tip what so ever and left the restaurant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you're looking for anything close to real Korean food, don't go here. The food tastes ok, but it's definitely not the same taste profile as the food you might find in the other restaurant on 32nd st.

We went for dinner and the service was super slow, again. This is the second time we had significant delays in getting our food. The waiter was nice, but they really don't understand that dinner customers can't lounge around for 2 hours when we have other things to do.

Cons: bad service - dirty -

The place is crowded and loud. We had to scream to one another just to be heard. During our dinner, we were constantly disturbed by all the commotion that was going on. The food was good but, nothing spectacular.

Pros: Food

Have dined here twice in the past few weeks and both times I had outstanding food and service. I went to this place based on a recommendation from a friend and it was certainly a good find. Friendly staff, speedy service, a nice crowd, and located in a cool neighborhood for sightseeing.

we left a 15% tip which was $6 dollars. i wrote my tip ($3) on my receipt for the use of my credit card and my friend left her portion of the tip ($3) in cash. as we were leaving my friend ( i was already outside) was stoppped and harrased initially by the angry waitress and then the manager as to why we only left $3 dollars as tip on the credit card receipt. they accused her/us of only leaving $3. we were not sure who took the bill, but we left our 15% tip ($6). my friend was made to feel like a criminal for the tip we left. first off, no customer should ever be scolded by the staff for the tip they choose to leave and secondly we did leave a 15% tip and it is not our fault other members of the waitstaff who collected our tip of $6 perhaps pocketed the remaining $3 dollars. this incident of being scolded by a waitress and a manager ruined our entire afternoon and made the food that we ate stomach churning.

Cons: service

.

The service here was horrible. We were rushed to place our orders while standing at the door, still in our coats, and then made to wait for a long time. At last it seemed like we had a table so we were ushered to the back of the restaurant. No. There was no open table. We were just asked to stand near the bathroom and wait there for no reason whatsoever. Finally, since there was room at the front of the restaurant, I asked if we could stand there again. The food was not worth the price and the man clearing our plates spilled water and food back on the table; I feared it was going to end up on us. My friend assures me that she's had much better Korean food down the street.

The food is really good. Always fresh and sizzling hot when it comes out. The place is a bit small and crowded. So if you come at the wrong time of the day, there will be a wait (try to arrive before 5:45pm for dinner). I was new to korean food but now after having a great dining experience (really felt like i was in korea bc they are very attentive and quick) and delicious dishes and i a huge fan! Come here for some good food! I might see you bc i have been coming at least twice a week!

Not sure how much I like their seating process, but the stews and BBQ are great. It's one of the only restaurants that always has a large line in KTown. I found out why a few months ago and have been there several times since. The food is consistently good. I must admit that I've only tried a few stews and meats, but they've all been great.

You know the food is good if there's a line out the door, which Kunjip usually has, whether it be the dinner or after-party crowd. They have a good variety of korean small dishes, including my favorite, egg in a hot stone bowl (although they don't always offer it, even when you ask). The food always has a good flavor and they have a few dishes that other restaurants in the area either don't have or don't make as well. The service is ok, definitely not the best, but they are fast in order to get people in and out (though you never feel overly rushed).

I can understand slower service at a busy restaurant, that's not unexpected, but complete LACK of service and the constant rushing to finish our food was completely unnecessary. The wait staff consistently forgot to refill our waters and bring rice despite repeated requests. When the finally got around to refilling our waters, they spilled it everywhere. But the worst part is that THEY SAID 10% TIP WAS UNACCEPTABLE! The service was sub-par and we thought 10% was already being generous, and they essentially BEGGED us to add $10. My cousin was the one who paid and ended up giving the server the $10, but I would have laughed in her face and left. I recommend no one to go to this restaurant. There are plenty of other great Korean restaurants right next door to Kun Jip that have better food and MUCH better service.

Do yourself a favor and pass on this one. You won't regret it.

I am the owner of a restaurant (Italian, so no conflict of interest here) myself and have been in this business for over 20 years. My wife and I also dine out quite often and we have never been so dissatisfied with a restaurant until now.

My friends have always raved about Kun Jip and their delicious food so I decided to go try it out with my wife last week. To make a long story short, we were not at all pleased and will NEVER return to this restaurant again. We waited over an hour for our table. I had to repeatedly ask our waiter to bring us our drink orders and our refills. When our waiter finally decided to refill our glass, he spilled most of it into my wife's lap and didn't apologize. They brought us the wrong food and wouldn't change our order. I had to reluctently eat what I never intended to order. Throughout the entire meal, we felt we were being rushed. The waiter kept coming over to our table asking us if we were ready for our bill.

What happened up to this point may seem to be the worst of it, but oh no. No, no, no, no, no. When we paid for our food, I was not very pleased with the service (or the food for that matter) and gave the waiter a 10% tip instead of the usual 25% I would leave. The waiter was bold enough to come over to our table and asked that we increase his gratuity to at least 20%. My wife and I tried to explain to him that we were completely, totally, and utterly dissatisfied with the service at Kun Jip and refuse to increase their tip. In the end, my wife threw down a five dollar bill just so the waiter would stop yelling at us and embarrassing us in front of everyone else.

So yes, I promised a short story, but feared that leaving out details would do you, the reader, an injustice. I certainly hope that you may have a better experience at Kun Jip than my wife and I.

I went here with my friends last Saturday night to celebrate one of my friends birthday. Though we made a reservation we waited about 15-20min until we were sat. Not a big deal, but what bothered me was that when my veggie bibimbop (sp?) came and I started to eat it, a waiter came over and ordered me to put the sauce in the dish. A few minutes passed, and the waiter came back a SECOND time and said firmly "YOU NEED TO ADD SAUCE!" to which my friend who is Korean replied that I could eat it how I liked. I was later told that the sauce helps the rice from sticking to the bottom, but had he explained this or asked me more kindly, it would have made a world of difference. The food was good, but that really soured it. To top it off, we ate Birthday cake that one of our friends brought at the end of the meal and the staff EYED us every time they passed, so that we would get the hell out of there. Way to make new customers uncomfortable!! One waitress even had the audacity to move the check that was already placed on the table, next to my friends hand. Staff need to learn not to be so PUSHY!! This was a HUGE turnoff and regardless of the tasty food, I do not think I will return. (I have been to Kum Gan San in Queens and this kind of stuff never happened and theyre just as busy)

Pros: good Korean food

Cons: rushed meal, pushy servers, reservations not honored

The customer service like the other reviews was HORRIBLE. I'm Korean and the ALL the dishes that we ordered (about 6 in total) were AWFUL. When I tried to send 1 dish back because it was under cooked and horrible tasting, they refused and still charged me for it!!!
TRUST ME WHEN I SAY THAT THE FOOD IS HORRIBLE, OVER PRICED AND CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKED Sadly, I wil never go back. If the food was good and the service was crappy, I would consider but in this case both truly sucked...this is coming from a Korean gal who knows her Korean food!

We came here for an early dinner. This was the only place on the block that was completely full, so we expected the food to be good. Sadly, both the barbecue and the rice bowl proved disappointing, and the price tag was a bit steep, epecially considering the restaurant is pretty much a hole in the wall. The bathroom has the poorest design I've seen in a restaurant (you will get struck by the door no matter how much you try to avoid it). The service was also not particlarly impressive. The waitress would use her bare hands to handle our food. I have been to worse restaurants, but there are certainly much better ones and I will not be returning.

I agree with the previous review generally. My friend rec'd this place when i told him i wanted korean bbq. He was right - we just beat the 7pm crowd. As it was, we arrived at 6:45 and had to wait 10 min. They actually insisted on taking our orders while waiting! That was kind of annoying, but on the bright side, food came IMMEDIATELY and our bulgogi & ddukboki was quite yummy. They also made it w/ sweet potato noodles in both, which i'd never had before. Prices were probably standard for K-town. The waitress was fairly attentive for such a hectic joint, although my friend (who isn't used to spicy food) wished the waiters refilled his water glass more frequently. Bottom line - good food, so go - but get there early. When we left around 8pm there was a line about 30 people deep lined up out the door!

Its spendy, its authentic and the service is whack. The place is always packed and its amazing the most quiet I've ever seen this place was at 6:30AM when half the restaurant was full. Come here during any time of the week during any hour, as its 24 hours long.
