I needed to have an engine temperature sensor replaced on a 2000 Jetta. That was fine, but about a day after I got my car back, the check engine light came on. So I took the cra back thinking that the dealer would just have to reset the diagnostic program with that handheld device they plug into the car's electronics. Nope. They told me that both mass flow sensors (intake and exhaust) needed to be replaced for over $800. I doubted that this was true, so I told them just to reset the diagnostic system and give me my car back. And the car runs just fine; no change in gas mileage or any other indication that a mass flow sensor isn't working properly.

On the plus side, they usually fix whatever problem you do have, and they do it almost always that day. But it's never cheap.

They quoted me $450.00 to clean the drains on my sunroof, with a long, involved, full of balony description of what they had to do, including put a fan on the carpet where water had leaked in. I said what if I just want you to clean the drains? I can put a fan on the carpet myself. He said, no, they couldn't just do that, they had to do everything he'd described.

Foreign Auto Services in Fairfax quoted me $40.00!

Guess where I'm taking my car.

PROS:
CONS: inflated prices, talk to you like you're stupid

I bought my 2001 VW Jetta from Alexandria and they took decent care of the car whenever I took the Jetta in for service during the two year warranty. However, once my warranty expired, their level of service seemed to go down. I was told that a rearseat cupholder (stuck inside) would cost as much as $100 to replace even though they fixed it (simply pulling it out) without any trouble during the warranty period. The customer service representative also once went out of his way and asked me to give him a "good"/"positive" rating if I ever received a phone call asking how his service was.

PROS: Was able to get a good deal from the dealer when buying the car
CONS: After the warranty expires, their repair service quality drops
