.

Green Wood cemetary is a piece of NY history. It's rare that a cemetary can cause such an uproar among historians and normal folk but this 1838 landmark covers some 474 acres, contains more than 600,000 graves and is simply put a beautiful piece of architecture. Not only is it one of the most beautiful cemetaries in New York, it also is an aboretum, wildlife sanctuary for birds, sculpture garden, landscape design, and place of Victorian history.

There are guided tours (yes of a cemetary). Think of this as a twisted and macabre version of Hollywood's Star Maps Tour since there are MANY celebrities buried here. Celebrity graves include those of Lola Montez (the famous dancer) DeWitt Clinton, Leonard Bernstein (the conductor), Henry Chadwick, Charles Ebbets (owner of The Dodgers and founder of Ebbets Field way back when), Horace Greeley, to name a few. This is a beautiful place to view alive or um dead.

PROS: Phenomenal Architecture, Beautiful Experience
CONS: none
