So I went to local after work last week to meet up with a few friends that head home to jersey from penn station. Based on the fact this place is right there and has a roof it made for a great place to have a couple of drinks after work.

I was at Local relatively recently with some friends after work for drinks. We actually had a good time, up until the point where I looked down (within 5 feet of where I was standing) for my bag so I could leave, and it was gone. After much searching and talking to the manager (remember this - who said they rarely have any thefts there), I resigned myself to the fact that someone walked off with it.

Amazingly, I heard two very similar stories within the last few weeks. A co-worker told me that a friend of his was drinking at the bar upstairs, and placed his bag on on the floor against the bar and it went missing as well. After doing his own frantic search, it turned up that it was behind the bar, but there were some items missing.

Finally, another friend of mine was there recently as well and she was inside the bar, and had her bag on a chair next to her, only to have it disappear as well. This time, no luck in finding it though.

Without getting into full-on details on each story and what exactly was stolen, I find it ironic that the bar doesn't have many thefts - according to the manager - but that 3 people had their stuff stolen there within a month's time with similar circumstances.

For this reason, I nor any of my friends will return to this bar. Whether it be some random people who come in and steal people's stuff, or whether there's more to the story, who knows. Not going back.

Pros: None

Cons: Things seem to go missing

I went there with my boyfriend before a Ranger playoff game, I walked away to use the bathroom and the female bartender was all up on him, but when she saw me coming back she backed off. Needless to say she slipped him her number and we are now broken up.

Girls watch your guys, there are lots of eye candy in this place. For the record, she wasn't all that hot, matter of fact they all look pretty used up. Oh and the serviced sucked!

Great afterwork spot...drinks are good and the bartenders are hot - especially a short-haired brunette - anyone know her? However, management is just okay...could be much better, but the atmosphere is good and the help is great.

I work at a restaurant right down the street from Local and always thoght it looked like a nice place to grab a few drinks on a beautiful sunny evening (not too many rooftops bars in midtown). Come to find out it is a complete rip off with lazy waitresses. My friend and I sat up on the roof (which was, admittedly, lovely) and waited a few minutes to be greeted by our server. She came over, took our drink order and came back 5 minutes later with a draft of Blue Moon that was only 3/4 full and one of their "specialty drinks". The "special" martini I had was delicious and quite strong but definilty not woth the 15 dollars I was charged for it (it was Stoli for christ's sake!). We got the hummus and pita plate which was very tasty. However, after ordering our snack and first round of drinks we didn't see our waitress for a good half hour to forty five minutes (correction, we saw her, made eye contact, tried to get her attention and were ignored). It was not even busy! As a waitress, I understand that sometimes you get slammed and accidently neglect a table because you are running your butt off. No, she was just sauntering around in her minidress and stilletos trying to look hot while not doing her job. We did see the busboys a lot. They were very eager to clear our drinks and our waters while we were still drinking them (nearly half full). We get our check and the martinis were overpriced at 15 bucks(however understandable as they were house specialties), but 8 dollars for a COORS LIGHT? People can say "well, it's midtown" all they want, but I work at a place down the block that caters to the same corporate crowd and coors light is $5.50. So, we hardly saw the waitress all night but then she gives us the check and hovers over our table like a vulture waiting for her tip. We only left a 15 percent tip (normally leave 25-30) and would have left considerably less, but both being waitress, fear karmic retribution. I would be fired for the kind of service we received.

Pros: roof top

Cons: Very poor service, way over-priced drinks

Local is a decent place. The food and drinks are average, but sadly the prices are above average. The main reason I keep going back to Local West is because of the 2nd story outdoor bar. It is very relaxing to have a drink or two while enjoying the summer weather outside. It can get quite crowded, but I have always managed to get a seat. Service is pretty quick.

Love this place for their fantastic roof. Good place to stop in for a drink before a show at MSG or Hammerstein. Gets packed after work, so try and get their early if you want to snag a seat.

I will admit I used to be an avid fan of local west. Not b/c of the great service (one chick refused to serve me b/c I called her "Sweet T*Ts", but i thought coming from a girl that would be a compliment) or the great food, or good drinks (I only drink Heiny Bottles it's not too hard to mess up) but simply bc the location to MSG. I would stumble out of a game and always end up there. Last night, after the Rangers Islanders game was no different. Why a bar located directly across from MSG would not put security on for a rangers islanders game I have no idea!!! The place was packed w/ islanders fans who were starting fights w/ every Rangers fan that was in there. Long story short...Some 6'2" "man" Thought it was acceptable to swing at me a 5'4" chick. And while all this ruckus was going on...Noone stopped serving beer! No manager available to talk to me, no bouncer on duty. So i was left to fend for myself. So yes I did p*nch him, but only b/c he tried to h!t me first. Apparently it's every man for themselves in Local.

I recently popped into Local for some drinks and appetizers before heading over to the Knicks game. I thought I was going to really impress my beautiful date with what was a really nice looking place. Well, it actually is a really nice place and she was impressed. That was until we had some unexpected company join us at our table. Right as we were halfway through our beers, wings and nachos, a tiny, let's say non-human, made himself cozy right on our table. Ordinarily I wouldn't mind, but I was on a hot date and this four legged "thing" wasn't exactly invited. I kindly asked it lo leave, i.e. I threw every piece of artillery I could find in its general direction and it escaped my wrath. I know what you're thinking: this guy is sooo smooth. Well, stop laughing because luckily for me, I am pretty smooth. So I was able to divert attention away from this unfortunate experience and get back some semblance of what started as a promising evening. We could no longer eat, but we still drank our beers, albeit at a much quicker rate. But just as the waitress threw down the check, our little friend made his second appearance of the night. And all hell broke loose when it made an offensive remark that was directed at me. Ok, well I made that last part up, he was actually quite cordial, but the rest of this is true. There was no counter attack this time; we just paid the bill and ran. Not ever, EVER, in 8+ years of drinking, have I ever had to leave a purchased beer unfinished. That is unacceptable and downright disgusting. As for our unexpected companion...also disgusting. This was truly one of the mostuncomfortable bar experiences I've ever had. I was going to give this bar a 2 rating, but since my date hasn't returned any of my calls since, I am downgrading that to a 1 for my pain and suffering. But hey, I'm an optimist so If you're ever looking to NOT get with someone, this is the place to go to.

this place is ok. not a bad place to hang out after work if you're in the area. but, who wants to have music that you can't talk over with your friends, especially after work? just turn it down please!

what's with a happy hour that starts at 4pm and ends at 6pm? really..who gets out at 4...i want that job! Please push it up to 7pm...be reasonable!

and the food menu could use a few more items. honestly...i'll probably go back there, but only since i work in the area and there aren't many other choices.

i just hosted an afterwork party at Local West and b/c of the moderate weather the manager Frank suggested we might want to use the heated outdoor patio as an alternative to their lounge, what a great idea, the change of scenery in december was pretty cool, nice change of pace, i'm becoming a fan of global warming! the staff was so pleasant and the whole party went off without a hitch, it was low-key but high energy , thanks to Local West for making me look like a planning superstar!

Great place to go for drinks after work and to watch games!

The bartenders are are always friendly, full of energy, and most of them are very hot!

I have been there many times and always have had a good time and usually a good crowd of sports fans and professionals. Bouncers keep the riff raff out and scene is great!

The crowd and view on the roof is the best in the area!

PS - The sliders are the delicious :)

WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT GO TO LOCAL WEST!!! This place is byfar the worst place in all of Manhattan. It is the most corrupt bar in the city- they WILL overcharge you terribly at this place. The bartenders are the RUDEST people in the world. They are all terrbile people, who for some reason feel that are better than the patrons, and will ROB you if you open up a tab. I have been overcharged soo many times at this place, but never really cared, until the other night they decided to overcharge me almost $90 over what i had bought. All the bartenders/ waitreses are terrible people with no future- one in particular blonde with 2 HUGE fake.....is the worst of them all- do not go to this place, and if you do- do not tip this woman. worse than her is the manager FRANK SCOTTO- this guy is an idiot that has no idea how to manage a bar-

THEY HAVE BEEN REPORTED AND I AM SURE FURTHER ACTION WILL BE TAKEN AGAINST THEM.

Walking into this bar was like walking into a meat market on Long Island. If thats your scene, then youll probably enjoy happy hour at Local West. Also, be aware: the daily drink specials arent available on the roof deck and the building is only one storey tall, so the great view of the Garden that some reviewers mention is basically the same one you get from the street. The main bar, back patio, and roof deck are all much smaller than expected, too, and showing some definite wear & tear on the out-of-the-box trappings. Our waitress was friendly, though, and the music was ok. All in all, this place is nothing special and is definitely not the oasis some reviews claim it isMaybe Im too cynical, but the fact that many of those positive reviews were posted on the same day makes me suspect they have been planted.

I planned a party for about 40-50 here. I spoke to the manager, Frank, who set me up with a great open bar and buffet package. I was a bit skeptical at first but when I got there, everything was perfect. The bartenders and waitress's were great. The rooftop is great and the food was slamming. There was no hassle getting in and it was a pleasure speaking with everyone in there from the bouncer to the waitress's. Only problem I had was the music because there was no hip hip or reggae. If you like house music, then this place has no drawbacks. But the manager was nice enough to tell the DJ to put on the Hip Hop XM station since she had no Hip Hop material. Wonderful experience. I would highly recommend this place for any group looking to have get-together in a non-crowded atmosphere.

Local is my regular pre-train pit-stop and I'm surprised to hear so many people complain about the prices. A $2 surcharge for the roof may seem ridiculous at first but $8 a beer on a rooftop in Manhattan is standard. If you're that cheap, stay on the patio where the drinks are less expensive. The service could be more enthusiastic, and these girls in short skirts have been known to retaliate full force when prevoked. Regardless, there's no other place like it anywhere near penn station.

I can't think of another reason to go other than needing that one last drink before going to the game/concert. Even then the prices are comparable for beers. We got shots and they were filled in thimbles and partially spilled before they ended up at our table. 2 Buds + 2 Shots = $24.

I've been going out to bars in NYC for years and find that most bartenders don't give you the time of day especially after they see the tip on the bar..... Not so in this Midtown secret. Local West has the most accomodating and gorgeous bartenders NYC has to offer. It's not everywhere you get smiles, brains and looks in one especially from girls in knee high boots and short skirt uniforms. I've now been frequenting Local West for the past month and will not look any further for my after work or pre Garden evet spot. If you are in the Midtown area, you don't want to miss this one -- Can't wait for more excuses to see these brunettes in action.

Was in town for business and some friends brought me here. Great time on the deck, and the proximity to the Garden was very cool. Good beer, and though I don't normally do frou-frou drinks the Mango Margarita was quite tasty. We just had some bar food (calamari, munchies) and it went very well with the drinks. Looking forward to another visit.

I went to this place before and after the Cold Play concert. I was skeptical about hanging around the garden because the place was so desolate for so long. My friend heard about this place and we decided to check it out. This place is just what that area needed. The inside was spacious and the roof top made us feel like you were on a cruise ship (without the obese people and all you can eat buffet). I even saw a few celebrities hanging out afterward including Drew Barrymore. This will be the first time in about five years I'm looking forward to hockey and basketball season.

Had a private surprise party here in the spring and the staff and managers couldn't have been more helpful and accomodating (thanks again John!!). Even gave us a half hour extra of open bar at no cost. The room downstairs is perfect for any event and I have suggested it to other friends. I have been here for drinks many times and have had only friendly service from all bartenders/waitstaff. The many flat screen TVs make it a great place to watch games. The area is what it is, what do you expect near Penn Station though?

This is one awesome spot - right next to MSG! Great if you are going ot an event or catching a train ... nice looking after work crowd. The rooftop views are gorgeous, including the empire state building from some places. Organized a party for 20 here on the roof and ordered the Nachos and sliders - Nachos are huge and may be the best in NYC! (make sure you add the chicken) ... Service was very friendly and extremely easy on the eyes to say the least. Finall a good spot in this area after all these years - Thank God!!!

local west may be one of the worst dining experiences that i have ever had in the New York met. area. not only was the food sub par, the service was horrific.... where is the customer servive at this restaurant?? their business thrives on vulnerable tourists only, and that is a shame. the positive reviews below are commical.

I love to eat. I have finally found a bar in the vicinity of the Long Island Railroad that serves real food in real portions, not the typical bar bites. I ordered the nachos and the otehr day thinking I would have a 'snack' before catching my train. A whole meal later, I realized the nachos with all the chicken and fixings was pratically a gourmet feast! My friendly server only added to the experience. Great food, great service, great value, Local West is fantastic!

I've spent the better part of the summer stopping in at LocalWest. The place has come up straight ACES for me whether I'm on my way to or from the LIRR, client meetings, or MSG events. You can watch sporting events on either side of the bar with nobody climbing over you, or you can now sit up on the deck outside and enjoy daylight until nearly 8:30 pm. It may be the new kid on the block, but I think it's the best combo of sport, scenery, and "new millenium tavern" the neighborhood has to offer.

I've been going to knicks games for the past 10 years and never had a good place to go. I was so excited when Local West opened.

It's a great bar to grab a drink and something to eat before or after a game. And they have a great roof deck in the summer.

Also, the bartenders and waitresses are very hot and friendly. I definitely recommend checking it out if you're in the area.

Local West is the place to be on the West Side. Thursday happy hours are sick and always a good crowd late night on weekends too. I live on the west side and its about time that a place like this gets going. A laid back crowd always makes for a good time. The food is good stuff and the drnks are quality...a ton of variety. Go check it out and see for yourself.

not sure if I just caught the place on a couple good nights but I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Did the happy hour thing the last couple weeks on a Thursday night and had a blast. The crowd was bumpin and the service was great considering how crowded the place was. Roof Deck is top notch for NYC.

I went to Local West three times in the last 10 days and everything was great. The workers were friendly, fast and accomodating. The roof top is one of a kind in this city. I've looked for this kind of space for years after work and on a night out. Bravo to whoever thought up using the roof of this once waste of a restaurant. Local West might be a small oasis in an area around MSG that has so little to offer night owls.

I live in Long Island and use the LI Railroad to get to and from the city. I usually catch a beer on my way home a few days a week with friends to blow off some steam. I've been waiting for ever for the area around the Penn Station/MSG to open a bar that I can look forward going to after work. It has a good crowd of people not to young or loud with my same intentions of a night out as I do. I recommend this bar to anyone looking for a relaxing night out, the ability to sit outside on the roof or outdoor patio and smoke! and have good food and drinks. You get what you pay for at Local West. Make sure you keep your LIRR schedule handy, I usually miss the first couple of trains I say I'm going to take.

In the area of MSG, this is definitely the choice for happy hour. I was thrilled to finally enjoy a real NYC Thursday happy hour on the roof deck. The frozen drinks were amazing, the place was packed with a great crowd, and the service was great. Finally a fun scene with attentive and friendly servers, and bar tenders with out the attitude.

This place is solid. I have been a few times recently. The outdoor space is incredible, and it is a great location for grabbing a drink before or after a game at the Garden. the roof does get a bit crowded at times. Food is decent for bar fare and better than the offering inside the Garden.

Looking for the perfect bar with excellent drinks food with an awesome rooftop option when the weather is nice? This is it! You can't do any better than right across from the Garden. Going to the Rangers, Knicks or a concert? You must stop by before or after. It is also a great place to get together with large groups of friends/colleagues. The staff is extremely accommodating and the crowd is perfect, especially for happy hours during the week. Thursday night is the best! I give it a perfect 10!

After reading about Local West on Page Six a couple of times, I decided to check it out for myself before going to see Neil Diamond at MSG. There was a nice after work crowd for a Thursday. The roof was jammed with a lot of good looking people. The chicken sandwhich there is as good as any around. Staff was very friendly and attractive. Bartenders are off the charts. Service was decent considering how crowded it was. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the neighborhood of MSG. Finally a good place to go in that area.

Those of you who work at Penn Plaza can appreciate the wasteland that is Midtown West. Local West is an oasis for me and my colleagues from work--but also attracts a younger good looking crowd that certainly is not from my building! The rooftop is a must and is a great place throughout the week (Monday-Friday being prime-time). The waitresses are gorgeous and it is definitely the place to impress a client (and meet young single women in the process)

I ordered fish and chips, which looked and tasted like giant frozen fish sticks. I guess they figured that adding a huge mound of french fries would somehow make the $5 fish worth $14. My friend ordered a $14 sandwhich and both of us left feeling queasy. The quality of the food is terrible and definitely not worth the price.

I met my friends at Local West after work one evening and vow to never return. Not only were the drinks an additional $3 on the rooftop but the waitress incorrectly tallied our bill. Once we brought this to her attention, she proceeded to tell us that New York was an expensive city and that we should deal with it. The waitress was rude, management was unorganized and I give the place a matter of months before it closes. My advice to Local West.loosen the waitress corsets, let the oxygen float to their brains, and then maybe youll have a chance at survival.

There isn't much to choose from in this area for after work gatherings, so I was excited when Local built the roofdeck overlooking MSG. Much to my chagrin, they charge a ridiculous premium for drinks up there, for instance an extra $3 on bottles of beer and a limited selection of drinks upstairs versus the downstairs area. Just be wary before you buy a round upstairs, it may be your only one of the night. Waitresses do wear nice tank top uniforms up there though.

Since there is noplace else in the wasteland around the garden, this joint will have to suffice. Service on numerous occasions has been laughable to say the least. Waitresses might be slow because of mgmts requirement that they wear big black moon boots and run around serving drinks in 90 degree heat (trying too hard to be trendy). Food is edible but portion size is almost comical even to hardened Nyers.

Everything seems to be fake here, from the breasts to the glassware. Though it's nice to find decent beers on tap, when they're served in dirty plastic pint glasses, it takes away from the experience. The people hanging out at this MSG-side bar look like the ring-girl rejects and their admirers. The bar itself is not noteworthy, even if it has one of the few rooftop bars in the area. To garnish its badness, the prices are high for this glorified hole-in-the-wall pub.

My friend and I decided to stop by the location for a afterwork drink. Their was a good mix of people along with a nice roof deck. The service is extremely slow. They seemed to only have one waitress for the bottom section. Took over 20 minutes to get a beer. We ended up going up to the bar. Besides the slow service, double check the bill. Afterall, it is New York City.
