Piola

★★★★☆
Piola opened in New York in 2005, a few steps from Union Square, at the corner of 12th street and Broadway in one of the most dynamic neighborhoods of the city. At Piola, the most genuine Italian tradition of simple and delicious food combines cleverly with a particular service and ambiance for the demanding and modern customer, who chooses Piola aware of the fact that feeling comfortable is as important as eating well. People from all walks of life and backgrounds meet and gather at Piola, since they are sure to find their own space in an atmosphere that balances freedom and well being with good taste. Piola's cuisine is rigorously Italian: Simple and healthy. Piola's pizza is thin-crust and well cooked, but above all, Piola's pizza menu is very creative: the classic Italian pizzas are flanked by many other creations, all delicious and original.

My family and I went to Piola after a movie outing. We chose this restaurant because we had previously been at their Miami branch which is OK. We were greeted by a bored and uninspired waiter who led us to our table we then proceeded to

I made a reservation for 15 for my boyfriend's birthday party - A WEEK prior to the date. Then I changed it to 20 - THE DAY BEFORE. I called to confirm THE DAY OF the reservation, reminding them of the 15-to-20 change. Guess what? We got there, there was no area for us, the female manager (?) basically told me that they don't take reservations, one male manager (?) tried to split us into three groups - I mean, are you kidding me? We had a great time because we're fun people and got over it, but what a group of losers running the place. I would NEVER go back, and will NEVER recommend it. Even if the food was phenomenal (it was good, I've had better) it's not worth the hassle of condescending idiots running the place.

I brought my cousin to Piola last Saturday because I liked the pizza.
When my hot pizza was brought to the table it slipped off the plate and landed onto my lap!
The hot cheese burned my finger and I had pizza all over my jeans! Awful!
The worst part is that I was actually charged for the pizza that fell into my lap AND the make-up pizza.
All we got were "sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry".....
I couldn't believe we were expected to pay for the make-up pizza after the first one landed on me and burned me!
Go to an Italian restaurant and pizzeria where they actually take care of their customers!

Ordered a salad and 2 pizzas to split. Food was delicious, and more than enough to go around. Dessert was fantastic - vanilla ice cream in a cookie shell with some sort of deliciousness crumbled on top. Prices were definitely reasonable, with a dessert cocktail on the house.

Pros: pizza, salad, coctails, dessert

Chipotle-looking kind of place, with high industrial ceilings, simple tables, and chrome fixtures. The pizza was yummy- I ordered mine with artichokes, of course. I also enjoyed a cold bottle of Peroni Italian birra. Dinner was only $11, not bad. As with many of my reviews about NYC restaurants, the service was slow and unfriendly. It wasn't bad and the food was good enough that it didn't matter. I would say this is a great choice if you want something inexpensive, easy and you?re in the neighborhood.

The first time I had a chance to eat at Piola it was in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The pizza was great, so was the service and the ambience! When I found out that they were opening in NYC I was so happy. I've been there about 4 times, and the pizza there is as good as the one I had in Brazil. The reason is so tasty it's because their pizzas are fresh and baked in a wood burning oven, the way it's done in Italy.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. I recommended this place to all my friends, and they loved.
Besides the pizza, they have great salads, drinks, and desserts. To make everything even better, there's
always a nice crowd and you can't beat their prices for one of the best pizzas that you'll ever eat!

I spent the last year studing in Venice and I was surprised finding in the city a pizza and a pasta made in the real italian way following the actual recepits and style.
Piola is real italian in the pizza, in the pasta and in the service.
Despite being informal the service is prompt and attentive, servers are warm and polite and they make you feeling @ home.
The wood brick oven pizzas (60 flavours and NO GAS OVEN!) are crispy and from your table you can see the pizza chef making your 12 inches pizza the standard italian size.
Nine sort of pasta amazing, how about gnocchi!! home made like MAMMA DOES!
Salads, fish, meat and desserts(TIRAMISU' is unique!!)complete the menu. Everything bring me back to the time I spend in such a lovely country!

Yesterday i went to Piola, being italian I must say that I was
pleasantly surprised: although Piola does not look "Italian" at first glance, I
had the most authentic Italian dinner in a long time.
I had the real italian pizza!
My friend had the homemade gnocchi.
We were also pleasantly surprised by the price, the friendly service given the quality of the food:
we held our check at less than 40$ and our dinner included
wine!

Piola is a great neighborhood spot and the food is excellent. To call the Diavola pizza a pepperoni pizza is a travesty. However, Piola is best enjoyed on a weekend afternoon or a slow night. The servers are always professional, but take a European approach to service where they move slower and aren't very attentive at times. If you wish to have a long liesurely meal, then visit Piola.

On a related note, Piola's delivery is abysmal. No one at the restaurant speaks nor understands english very well, making it very difficult to place an order. Don't even try to pay for delivery with a credit card. Spare yourself the aggravation and reserve Piola for a lazy weekend afternoon.

This was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had in 16 years of living in New York. The space was large and yet the deafening music/noise was everywhere. If you judge a place by the diners you find, there was a table of kids at one end, and a hopefully drunken bachelorette party at the other: neither inspired confidence. Despite all the empty tables, we were seated next to the bachelorette party, which meant the rude waitress had even less of her attention to give us. When she did, she provided stale bread and long waits for beverages. At best, the pizza was fair. I have no idea how this place wound up with a rating of 9.2 unless all the reviews were from eight-year-olds, the only people who could possibly enjoy Piola.

the food was great, drinks a little slow with the bartender not having a barback but the clientele in the restaurant makes you look around. well worth the visit just for your own pizza with tons of styles to choose from, had three that night.

I rarely ever go to a pizza joint and not like the pizza...but this place was pretty awful. From the service (we waited 10 minutes to even get silverware and asked for what we wanted to drink) and the food (pizza never tasted so bland), this is the first bad review I've ever given. its kinda like a tacky fast food European pizza place. from the outside it looks nice but once u sit inside it really just reminds u of a slightly more upscale Sbarro's. might as well go eat there and get more value for what you pay!!

Everyone's right: the gnocci legnano is heavenly. Pizzas are really really REALLY good, and our group had great service despite the typical difficulty we present! I think I'll go tomorrow to get some more of that pasta. Do they have delivery?

Fun, hip, eurotrash-lite atmosphere w/ good pizza, very fresh salads, and a full bar. The service is very friendly, a little spacy, but helpful. Good place for big groups and informal gatherings/birthday parties. Check it out.

We've eaten here 4 times in the last month and we are always extremely pleased. The pizzas are excellent and affordable and having Piola's 4-cheese gnocci is the most orgasmic experience you can have in public!
