Carmine's is a must do whenever we visit NYC. Food is ordered and served family-style, so go hungry. Menus are posted on the wall and don't panic when you see a price like $34.95 for baked ziti - that's the family style quantity price. It's best to go with at least 2 other people, the more the better because you can try more dishes. The antipasta platter appetizer is amazing - it's almost a meal in itself. You do need to love pasta and Italian food and garlic to eat here - there's even complimentary mouth wash in the bathrooms for all of that garlic!! If you can go for lunch or early afternoon, you will have a better chance of getting in. If you wait until late afternoon, you very well may be turned away because they will be booked for the evening. Make your plans based around theatre times also because of the close proximity. The upper west side location is just as good so if you want to go during busy theatre times, try it instead.
PROS: Unique family-style Italian dining in the heart of NYC.
CONS: Can experience long waits or be turned away completely on busy days.
