All I have to say is thank you First Choice Locksmith! I was caught in a bind during Hurricane Irene and got locked out (on probably the worst day to get locked out on!). Luckily, I was reminded of the locksmith shop I walk by every day to and from work. I gave them a call and they were so accommodating given the situation; they were able to help me out very quickly. They were also extremely reasonable. It is really nice knowing that you're dealing with a local business in the neighborhood that cares. I would definitely recommend them if you're looking for a locksmith.

I was referred to them by the Home Depot on 3rd Ave, which does not do Multi-Lock. I had Choice do the Multi-lock and gave them a regular apartment door key and asked for three copies. After grinding the keys, they gave me the copies and asked for about $5 each. I was stunned but blamed myself for not getting the price up front.

When I got home I found they did not work. I live at the upper end of the Upper West Side and would have thrown them away instead of hiking all the way to midtown east, but the price of the copies was too large to throw away. When I was near the shop again, I brought them the keys and asked for a refund. They refused and insisted on making new copies. I told them I cannot come back again -- it's just too far. They insisted the new copies would work. The did not.

I went back to the shop when I was in the neighborhood and again they (the proprietor, a woman) refused to give me a refund and again made new copies. They said I could call them to settle by mail if these did not work. I took them home: one worked, two didn't. I called and they told me to come back. I threw the keys away and gave up.

I took the door key to a local hardware store and got three copies made for a dollar each.

I have never seen behavior this bizarre and petty from a shop that is privately owned.

I was referred to First Choice Locksmith by one of my co-workers and I have to say, this locksmith was great. I called First Choice, they were professional, courteous and quick. I found their prices to be very reasonable as compared to others, and their service was excellent. Now I'm the one referring them to other people-- they are definitely worth a call if you need a locksmith in NYC.
