High prices for little value. You think you're paying for the scene but its not that great even once you get inside. Tried to convince myself that waiting in line meant that there was going to something fun inside but was completely let

3 girls queueing at around 2.30am last pit stop on sat night out. Once past the bouncer the clipboard carrying lady still feels the need to ask if we are on the "list". We replied no and she still let us in!?
Anyway once inside the decor is nice, it was half empty so not sure why they were turning customers away outside. Much of the crowd was tired looking, especially the ones that took table service, why would you pay to be miserable. Couple of redeeming points is that there was no cover charge, no queue for the bar and the music was fairly good.

I NEVER LIKED THIS PLACE SINCE THE FIRST TIME THEY OPENED AS BUDDHA BAR. FOOD IS HORRIBLE. DRINKS ARE NOTHING SPECIAL, OVER PRICED. BUT PEOPLE AT THE DOOR??? SUCH A POWER TRIP. ALL OF THEM ARE REALLY UGLY AND RUDE. THEY HAVE TO STOP THIS FACE CONTROL CRAP.YOU HAVE TO PAY ME TO GO THERE AND I STILL WON'T. LAST NIGHT HAD TO MEET MY FRIEND THERE, UNFORTUNATELY PLACE WAS DEAD. HOPE THEY WILL CLOSE SOON. BUDDHA IS GONE THEY SHOULD FOLLOW.

Last night I took my staff and a few key clients out for annual our holiday dinner. Upon entering Ajna, you start by walking through a "tunnel" like entrance that transforms you to a very-hip version of the Forbidden City (except with great food and booze). The space itself is huge, yet you feel very much at home. The decor is beautiful, somewhere between of "The king and I" and Jimmy Choo (if only they were that cool). We were a large group and the staff accommodated us with ease. Everyone at Ajna worked very hard to ensure our table was well fed and well-watered. For dinner, we had a little bit of everything; mouth watering salmon, delicious chicken and everyone at our table was raved about the steak. We had sushi, spring rolls, vegetable fried rice and bok choy. You name it, it all tasted great! To top the evening off, we finished with a sampler of chocolate pastries and torts that can only be described as superb. Would I go there again, definitely! Would I recommend this restaurant -- absolutely!

The food and decor are nice but the service spoiled it. After a much too long wait for our main courses we asked for the check. We were only able to leave 45 minutes later. The staff was unpleasant and clearly not interested in trying to provide a reasonable minimal level of service.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Ajna has by far the WORST bouncers/doorman in all of NYC. We had a deal, setup through a promoter, for 30-40 ppl, buy 2 bottles, get one free. When we got to the door, the piece of s-it bouncers/doorman said only the 9 people standing in front would get in and that everyone else would not be able to enter. Are you f-cking kidding me? We ended up not going in and cursing out the power trippin bouncers. They ruined my gfs 25th birthday party. PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE. I hope whoever was at the door on Fri, Nov 5 around 1130 are reading this because all i want to tell this F-CK U

We celebrated my wife's birthday at Ajna Bar. It was a BAD call. The setting was nice, the food was excellent, and all of my guests enjoyed themselves, except they did not like the staff. We went there on a weeknight and there was a nice appropriate crowd in the lounge area.
BUT the wait staff was annoying as hell and they kept rushing our meal. It was a party and we had to order multiple bottles of wine. Therefore we didn't order the 6 bottle of their least expensive wines. After the 2nd bottle, they told us they ran out.
They kept interrupting to ask us to order more wine. We did. Later they brought 3 more bottles of the same wine we originally ordered but this was after we ordered several more of their expensive bottles. They didn't offer any apology or reason for their screw-up. They also didn't say anything like "Thank-you for coming" when we paid. They were pretty much asses about the whole thing. I will not go back.

My girlfriends and i go out for restaurant week all the time. I was disappointed to find out this was the only restaurant we could get a reservation most recently as all the other nicer restaurants were booked solid.

I was very nervous to eat here as I had read so many terrible reviews online. GF's and I are all very successful businesswomen adn don't want to waste our time and money on bad food and terrible service.

Overall, it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. The doorman was a little strange, he hung out outside of the unmarked and unnumbered restaurant dressed and acting like a patron of the restaurant, talking on his cell phone, not paying attention to people outside wondering if it was the right door. So finally I just walked in and he jumps over and opens the door for me, I foudn out he did the same thing to all of my girlfriends as we arrived at different times and none of us had been there before.

The space is beautiful. It's very large and open, makes me think of a very trendy and upscale cheesecake factory as they can really pack em' in. The food was much better than people give it credit and I've been to all the nice restaurants in the city. Another cheese-cakelike move, they don't let you order only appetizers, everyone has to order an entree. What are we 15 years old? At a nice place like this they should let you do whatever the heck you want. Also, I tried to order a cocktail different from the drink menu and they wouldn't let me. I don't know if the waitress was too dumb to understand or if it was their policy, but they couldn't make a regular saketini, I had to have the disgusting fruit compote added.

I will not go back, but I don't regret going. It wasn't as bad as people say and actually kind of a fun experience.

last time I was there, was my final goodbye and good riddance from the Buddha Bar.
After a nice dinner with my handsome boyfriend, I suggested we go to another place for a drink. We walked by the Buddha Bar and decided to have a cocktail there.
The doorman was impossible. It was clear that the place was empty, since there was no line at the door. It was a cold and rainy evening, still the impolite doorman had to do his annoying dance of let's-keep-you-waiting for a while. I hate that. Does'nt make any sense, when there's no real reason for it. He inquired whether we're going to order food, and if not - we should get a bottle. I said we are not going to pre-order anything before we are sat and have a chance to look at the menu. He was rude and I was on the brink of leaving when we were finally let it.
The place, as I suspected was indeed empty. At the very least two thirds of the tables were empty.
The menu consists of amazingly expensive tacky drinks.
Even though there was hardly anyone there, it still took forever for the waiter to come back and check up on us. After at least 10 minutes passed, I decided that enough is enough, and I don't want to spent another second in this vile place, that evidently know nothing about customer service. They put an act like they are the trendiest bar in town, when that's just a sad joke.
I vow to never ever go back there again. I'll be delighted if they run out of business, as they should. Places like the Buddha bar should be deleted and erased from the recycle bin.

by the way, for some very odd reason - this is the 10th time i'm getting an "error" message when trying to post this review. any else had these sort of issues?

Pros: good for people that despise themselves

Cons: expensive, unpleasant, rude, pompous

.

We had a litany of issues with BuddhaBar

Doorman showed us attitude despite having reservations for two couples.

Maitre'd made us wait despite there being ample room

Bar staff was rude.

Waiter was difficult to understand and also rude. At that time we decided to walk out.

We asked for the check for the still water that they had served us. Even there they ripped us off by charging for two bottles. We were in no mood to argue - Left the money and bolted.

Never Again.

I love, love, love the Buddha Bar. Let me tell you why; they make the BEST coconut mojitos I've ever had. The ambiance is refreshing and breathtaking and the service....they literally wait on you hand and foot. As soon as your plate is empty, someone is there to clear the table to make space for the next serving. Its a fabulous experience. A bit pricey but well worth it!

I've been there many times and used to have a decent time there for dinner, drinks, and have throw parties there with 10+ people.
However... I will not be going back for a while- but will most likely give it another chance, just not until I walk by and see a different & more intelligent door man. 2 times in the last month the door man with the hair who thinks he's cool stopped me. There were four of us, my friend and his decent looking fiance, and my date who is a blonde model in her 30's. We were all dressed nice. We wanted to have a few drinks from the menu after the dinner we had elsewhere and he wouldn't let us in without buying a bottle. It was rainy and the place was obviously not busy and it was only and 10:30pm.

Irrogant.

They have a little trouble distinguishing between people that actually have money and those that just want to be seen.
I smiled and walked away so they could continue standing there with nothing to do.

Anyway, there will be no more bookings there and my expense account is going down the block.
So, if by chance anyone from management sees this- I usually only go there with 2 or 3 people at a time (except for 3 weeks ago when I brought a group of 9 woman) but for now you have lost my business, but hey- I've only spent around 20k there but I guess thats not good for a goup of 3.

You're gate keepers are costing you.
When you change names (obviously for business reasons) you need to change people. It's your employees that get you results, not your name.

One of the worst dining./bar experiences in the 30 years that I have been dining and clubing in NYC. Even during my days at Studio 54 and Xenon, NEVER have I encountered such an illiterate, classless, and rude staff, particulalry the meatheads at the front door. The beautiful decor did not make up for the terrible sushi, watered down drinks, and terrible DJ. The variable that will eventually shut Buddha down is the staff. Unfortunate because it had so much potential.

So ... I should start by admitting that I did not quite have the DL on Buddha Bar before I arrived. I knew it was a bit of a scene, but was not ready for the table shaking bass from the music.

Chalk that one up to me for being unprepared.

Unfortunately, for Buddha Bar, that's the only (-) I can take some responsibility for. From the cooked-through "seared toro sashimi" (I wonder whether they know what sashimi is, given its preparation), the lousy coconut mojito, the burnt calamari salad or the overly salted and otherwise poorly seasoned entrees and sides, the meal was a complete disaster.

Had the food been better (and I mean a LOT better), the atmosphere might have been more enjoyable, but all that I could think about, sitting at the table with my girlfriend as we sat at the table staring at our half-uneaten food, was needing to get the heck out of there.

Go there for drinks or to hang out on the week-end, but stay away from the lousy food.

About a month ago I put together a dinner for 14 people at Buddha Bar. Peter the venue's maitre d' was the most accommodating maitre'd I would say in NY. Our large and fairly picky party of 14 were seated in the Pagoda area of the restaurant. The number to my party changed every hour starting out at 10 people and ultimately ending with 14. Peter took every one of my frantic phone calls and assured me each time that it will all be perfect. This dinner doubled as a meeting and an introduction. The circular tables we dined at were perfect - at first what seemed like a tight fit and too close for comfort - ended up being exactly what was needed for the team to get aquainted. The menu selection - a prix fix selected by the maitre d' himself was perfect - every dish that came out was a delight - there was a lot of food, lots of choices and everyone left very happy and satisfied. The service was top of the line the attention was masterful even though the restaurant was full and Peter was also hosting a large party for 150 - we never felt neglected nor really ever thought there was anyone else there. I stayed well within my budget and everyone had a fantastic time - it was a win win for all and I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a great night out either be it w/ co-workers or friends.

Great...great....great!!!!Best flavoured mojitos, delicious apps and you can't skip the sea bass. I've been there may times, still one of the greatest music and ambiance. I just want to say that I don't get why people are so bitter. If you can't afford it, just don't go. They are really busy especially in the weekend. So the next time you try to camp in the restaurant, be thoughtful. How do you feel when you have to wait for an hour and so for a table( like we did on last Saturday night) just because @..?h0..*** people hold on to the table without consideration. Come on.... do you really need 3hrs to eat????That's why it is called restaurant, not a hotel.

A few friends and I visited Buddha Bar this Saturday, March 28, 2009, and what a huge disappointment that was. As mentioned by others, the cuisine and ambiance are really nice, however the service cannot get any worse for that price. We had a table at 8.30pm, and what was our surprise when the waitress dropped us the check at 11.30 and told us we had to leave because the table was booked again at midnight. Now, I have been at virtually every trendy place in NYC, and have never heard of such practice, and in all fairness, if something like this is ever done, you should be let know in advance. While we were arguing about the table, we noticed that in addition there were a few too many drinks charged on our check. We had to go through an even bigger argument and pay cash to make sure we won't be charged for those extra drinks. Imagine my surprise when the waitress had the audacity to state she wasn't happy with the tip, which one of my more generous friends still left her (I wouldn't have left a penny for such service.)

So, if you still decide to go there, keep your eyes on the check, apparently judging from the other reviews it is their practice to overcharge for extra drinks you never ordered. Also, keep in mind that just because you have a table doesn't mean you get to keep it, and you can be asked to leave at any point when the staff decides they can make more profit from another party. In conclusion, I would highly recommend taking your business elsewhere, especially that there is no shortage of nice places with good service in that area.

A few friends and myself went to Buddha bar to celebrate a birthday. As we entered we were greeted by a very nice, friendly man who escorted us to a table in the lounge. That was the highlight of the night. The service from then on was terrible. Whenever the cocktail server came over us ask for drinks she was EXREMELY RUDE, arrogent. I can't even try to explain what en unpleasant expericne she mad for us and how rude she really was. I heard from someone that works there that the cocktail servers are actually encourages to act like this!! that we should be happy just to eat there!! HA please,. I will never return.

First of all, I cant even understand to see why people give this place a bad rap. It is the best experience I have ever had in the City . It really is all about your approach. I know people come on here and bash this place but you have to understand why. If you go here looking for a quiet, dull romantic evening with tiny $80 dishes and 1000 dollar wine list with some fancy french name you are going to the wrong place. If you are looking for a hip dark sleek trendy music infused asian fusion restaurant with killer drinks, banging food and cool people you are gonna have the time of your life. Lots of Menu options, tonnns of drinks and lots of beautiful people. Great place for a date, or for groups of friends to mingle with hot singles. crowd is late mixed but lots of young(28-40). Sushis are surprizingly amaziing concidering the size of this venue. Had cocktails and sake with dinner. Skipped dessert cause we were stuffed. I personaly recommend every single thing. ENJOY!
A busy place in general means than this place is good and you are going to have a little bit of wait.

Pros: Food. Scene. Beautiful Crowd.

I went to Buddha Bar to have a good time with friends. While the atmosphere was nice they will overcharge you purposely. I ordered two drinks at 15$ each, at the end of the night I was charged for 3 drinks. I told the server this and instead of taking the extra drink off she insisted I had a 3 drinks and spoke to me in an argumentative tone. I asked for the manager who was no better. They only pretended to take the extra drink off and still charged my card 45$ for three drinks. All this to say if you must go to Buddha Bar pay only in cash!! I, however, will never go again because I was treated rudely and in a disrespectful manner, and not to mention RIPPED OFF!

First time to Buddha Bar and probably my last. The ambience of the place was pretty cool and I liked the music until they turned up the volume and I had a hard time carrying a conversation with my boyfriend. The food was pretty good, but portions were on the small side. Drinks were way overpriced. A heinekin cost $8/bottle. Martini's were ~$15. I guess your paying for the "scene" which wasn't all that on a Saturday night. Bartender had a little "attitude".

It was really bad experience. Place looked nice, but bad service and way too expensive for what we had.
I went there for my friend's birthday. First, they told us we only can reserve 6:45PM spot (we wanted go there after 7PM). We went there and place had a lot of empty table and never filled up. Why did they make us come 6:45?
All of items were very expensive. So, I thought they were using high quality ingredients. But, it wasn't. Spring rolls looked like comes from Asian supermarket and served very small 4 pieces. Yellow sashimi salad was very small portion also. 6or 7 thin sliced yellowtail and small hand full of mix green.... for the price, I was imagined that like Nobu's sashimi salad portion. My entry was sesami crusted tuna. It was like $27 and it was not worth it. The water and runner did not remember who order which dishes. Many of dishes were served to wrong person. Sometime the waiter had to announce loud "who order tuna???" It didn't seem like professional job.
For the dessert time? the runner put dessert on middle of table (not front of birthday girl) with un lighted candle. It's unbelievable. They knew that we made reservation for the birthday dinner, so they prepared dessert dish with a candle. But who ever serve the dish have no idea.
I just understand why I had to pay so much money for bad service and stingy food.

I usually avoid the meat packing district but I decided to make an exception last night and decided to have a drink at the French owned and operated Buddha bar. Beautiful place, creative decoration and very nice music. We waited at the bar to order a glass of Champagne and a sauvignon blanc. The bartender delivered the 2 drinks and asked me for $ 36. I pay with my credit card and when I am about to sign I am supprised to see that they automatically added the gratuity ( about $ 7) to the credit card slip and the total is now around $ 43+
I complained and a French manager is called and he is telling me that is perfectely legal to add the tip and that if I cannot afford it , he would pay for the service himself.
Buddha bar should invest in legal advices and stop acting like they are doing business in Europe.
This is New York!

I am a regular a the Buddha Bar and let me tell you how such a great place with great food looses so much with an hostess in particulat, her name is Amber, I asked her her name. She is rude, non accomodating, and with a passive aggressive attitude. She will do faces on purposes to make anybody feel unwelcome. I asked all my friends who go there and they all had the same impresssion about the same hostess.
Please fire her or repriment her, otherwise me and another 20 of my friends will stop coming there.

It's an OK place, but nowhere near the real thing on Place de Concorde. Music and the crowd made the original Buddha Bar special and this one unfortunately cannot compare.

So let me start by saying I am a regular to the NYC night scene and this c*ck at the door has no match and NO that is not a compliment. The c*ck i referred to is the doorman at the Buddha Bar God only knows what he thought of himself but he surely needed a reality check. helllooooooooooooooo d!ck head you're a door man for crying out loud not the messiah of the free world. I am not angry that the b*obs got in before me and I had to wait in line because i chose to cover my b*obs in the 40 degree weather. I am angry at how disrespectful this guy was I am not sure if it was the skin color issue or I wasnt dressed in the 3 ply sheets of charmin ultra exposing most of my assets or if I and my girlfriends were not gorgeous by his standard but if that was the criteria he sure did not fit it. He was rude, used foul language looked at everyone without exception as the dirt beneath his feet the guy may have been missing a soul. By the time you got in he soured the mood so bad that you no longer want to go in or enjoy the night. The village is filled with great clubs/bar/lounges I would skip this bar undoubtedly.
In a way I feel sad for him maybe this was his only way of fulfilling an obvious size deficiency. Yes I have been to plenty of clubs with JACKA$$ES posted at the front door but this one is the king of all. To help readers identify him he is the most obvious c*ck at the door possibly of greek or italian descent and has JACKA$$ written on his forehead

Worst experience ever. Maybe going out to dinner there is a little better, who knows - but I can tell you right now, going just for the lounge/bar is a nightmare. I'll just sum it up with a brief example:

I went outside for a couple minutes, and on the way out, I was sure to ask the stupid bouncer if I would have a problem getting back in. He was like "oh absolutely not, you are good." When I go to attempt to get back in several minutes later, the same moron told me he had no idea who he was, and directed me to the guy at the rope. Of course the idiot at the rope didn't remember who I was either. Bottom line, it took me 45 minutes to an hour to get back in. And I did have 2 bottles and a table - so it was not like I was some random right off the street.

The table and bottles was a huge production as well - couldn't get all of my people in. 4 of my friends were willing to buy an additional 2 bottles, and still the bouncer wouldn't let them in. (after telling my group that that would be ok)

Felix and Jimmy, I can't wait till this place closes down and you losers are out of a job. If you 2 were in my world you wouldn't last a second. You control a rope and you think you are big time? Nothing but a joke

I hope everyone pays attention to all of the poor reviews that this place has gotten on this site. I didn't, and it ended up costing me

I've never written a review before, but this place is so wretched, that I could not let my experience go untold!

A friend & I had dinner in the restaurant at 8pm, which was nice - cool decor, good food & an attentive waiter. After dinner, we moved into the lounge to reserve a table & bottles & wait for our friends to arrive. (My brother & I were told in several calls that tables can only be reserved in person.) Once in the lounge, a terrific bouncer named Jerry introduced us to a man named Felix, who would help us for the night. I told Felix we needed a table for approx. 12 people & that we would buy bottles. Felix told us he would give us "lovely ladies" a nice table that typically goes for 4-5 bottles, for "just" 3 bottles. I know how this schtick goes, but went along with it, as it was my brother's birthday. The weather was bad, so we started to get some cancellations. Before we decided which bottles to buy, I asked our waitress, Michelle (who was very nice), if we could do 2 bottles instead of 3. She asked Felix & he agreed, but he made a big stink over it - we were only allowed to have a max of 10 people & Felix would let those 10 people in personally.

When the rest of our friends showed up, Felix would NOT let them in - there were too many guys in our party. Felix never told to me there was to be a certain guy / girl ratio at my table. Needless to say, I went ballistic. I was able to get most of our party inside, after fighting with Felix, but Jimmy, the apparent owner & ruler of the door, refused to let 4 of our guy friends in, who were even willing to buy more bottles. I was disgusted at this stage. 2 bottles & $900 later, we left this hell hole & met the rest of our friends at One, where we had fun. Bottom line: Felix is a liar, Jimmy is a nasty human being, along with the rest of the rude bouncers, & the place is NOT worth the inevitable heartache. Please spend your hard-earned money in a place that will value your business & respect you!

We just went here last weekend on a trip to NY. Let me just say once we discovered this place, we were there 3 nites in a row!!! The DJ is amazing, he plays a lot of middle-eastern songs, mixing them live with drums and percussion. It's hypnotizing. The place is spacious, trendy, and romantic. I loved it. Great service too.

Ate there last week with a large work party (over 6 people). From the getgo the service was horrible. Sat in the bar/lounge area for a drink. Had to go to the bar to ask someone to servicve our table. With much attitude and about 20 min later someone came by to take our drink order. For $15.00 a drink you would expect much better service. Waited again about 20 min before someone came over to take our order. Of course the drink order was a priority from our server at $15 a pop! The food was actually fantastic. The service however was not. No one came back to check on us and actually served someone's dinner as her appetizer by accident. After about a 2 hour meal, we were ready to go. We had to ask 3 different people (waiter/busboy) to get our check. Again waited about 20 min until it finally came. It came-along with much attitude. Being that we were over 6 people they automatically tacked on 20% gratuity. This was extremely pompus of them to assume that there service was worth 20%... At this point we wanted to leave and just payed to bill-shame on us... I highly recommend the food however know that what you are getting yourself into before you go-a long wait with plenty of attitude and an extremely high bill. For the price of the evening you deserve more!!!!

If you're looking for incredible asian-fusion cuisine and a fun-sexy atmosphere then you definitely need to make you're way to Buddah Bar. Their yellow-tail roll is amazing and their cocktails are spectacular.

I recently dined at Buddha Bar along with five other friends. We were seated on top of one of the ultra trendy banquets suspended above a Koi pond where we could watch the fish literally swim under our feet. The service was impeccable. Our very attractive waiter stood post throughout the whole meal as we dined on Tuna Tartar, Chinese Style Roast Duck and phenomenal sushi including my favorite of the night the Green Dragon Roll. Too bad we only planned to have dinner or I would have stayed and joined the crowd in the lounge for drinks and music. All the more reason to go back again and not only try the food but the drink menu as well!

Worse place to go to. If you want to be treated like idiots, please go. The bouncer, Jimmy is an A SS HOLE! The idiot lets all sluts in, while normal people are on line.
