My wife and I ate at 24 Prince recently as part of a prix fixe dinner organized by a local winery, each course being paired with a wine. The one positive thing about this evening, was that the food and wine pairings worked well and that was due to the winery staff knowing what they were doing.

The rest of the dining experience was subpar:
- we were seated in the back of the restaurant (as were other diners part of this winery's event) near the restroom and near the back door, where the staff would drag a large garbage pail every hour or so, open the back door, empty the garbage and then drag it back in. The visual appeal of this, coupled with the gust of freezing air left a memorable impression. As did having to look at the people waiting in line for the one bathroom.
- the paper napkins and cheap utensils should have been the tipoff that the worst was yet to come.
- the portions of the first two courses was of a tasting menu size - the dinner was not advertised as a tasting menu so this was surprising.
- since the portions were small, we were still fairly hungry while waiting for our entrees. We noticed other tables had gotten a basket of bread but not us. We asked for some bread and they provided some.
- did I mention that we were waiting for our entrees? At least 20 minutes from the time they cleared the previous course!! We had to remind them and they profusely apologized, but it was too little, too late. In fact, the wine pairing I had received for the entree was finished by the time the entree arrived. The poured us some more, which was expected, but given the place was not that crowded, we were baffled as to why there was such a delay.
- at this point, I was contemplating what kind of tip I should leave - my thoughts hovering around 10% or less (note: I usually leave at least 20% for most dining experiences). When the bill came, I was shocked to see that they had added a 20% gratuity to our bill!! I have seen this for parties of 4 or more, but we were a party of 2. I reluctantly paid this because it may have been the arrangement because of the winery event, but in hindsight, I should have complained. The fact that the staff did this underlines the fact that this place is doomed for failure.
- The wine dinner was advertised as a chance to meet the owner/chef, Nikki Cascone. She was nowhere to be found - never made an "appearance". Not that it would have mattered - we were unimpressed overall. She might be a decent cook, but as the owner of a restaurant, she has failed miserably. She must be too busy planning her upcoming wedding.

I would be very surprised if 24 Prince is still around in 6-12 months. People enjoy good food but you cannot survive on that alone. The attitude and the lack of service and small details (get some decent napkins and cutlery and stop dragging the trash around the dining room!) will kill this place.

I will never be back and will go out of my way to tell as many people as possible to STAY AWAY!!!

Pros: PRO: Decent quality of food

Cons: CONS: Everything else - service, price, ambience,

I ate there with a big group, four of us ordered the tuna and each was cooked differently, only one seemed good. The shrimp chop salad had three small pieces of shrimp, and the salad was not chopped. I asked for more sauce, and they came back with a thimble. Portions were very small, and the bill came out to be very large.

After walking around nolita and visiting the bowery musium I decided to stop at 24 Prince for an early dinner. I had been to 24 Prince for a friends birthday party about a year ago and loved the meatloaf. When we walked in the host sat us right away. Our server was the same server who waited on me at my friends birthday. He was friendly and helpful, he told us some of the must haves on the menu. My friend and I decided to share a flatbread as an app, and for our entree's I had the meatloaf and she had the tuna dish(it looked and smelled great but she would let me taste). The bartender makes a great martini and my friend loved the pear pop. If i wanted to be picky i would say my latte wasn't warm enough but everything else was great and I will be back.

Pros: Ambience, friendly service, location, food & price

Cons: location, over eating

The prices are good for a fine dining restaurant that is usually quiet and casual, the food always tastes good, and they provide excellent waitstaff customer service. I've had the burger and apple & endive, both quite good.Perfect spot.

I was shopping in nolita and saw the sign about the chef Nikki being on TOP CHEF, had to go in. There was a 15 minute wait but it was worth it. We had my 8 year old son with us and my girlfriend and I enjoyed all of the food. I am only writing this because I saw some of the other reviews and disagreed. i use city search alot and I alwyas see both good and bad reviews i just try to read a lot of them. Try to get their early so there is no wait. It is a very comfortable, affordabel and delicious place.

A few Sunday's ago my friends and I went to 24 Prince for brunch. We had a great time! The food was great and so was the service. There brunch menu was tasty and priced right. I couldn't wait to tell everyone I know what a great meal I had there. The atmosphere was very New York hip, but comfy & cozy too. I was also excited because I got to meet Nikki, who was a cheftestent on season 4 of "Top Chef" . Alex was our server and he couldn't be more helpful or attentive. The kind of waiter you enjoy giving a good tip to. I also liked the location in this red hot neighborhood close to the Bowery. If you go with friends ask to sit at one of the round tables. It's much more intimate! I recommend 24 Prince for its fun menu & great atmosphere.

terrible terrible terrible, don't go here. went here for brunch and had to wait for the food for about an hour. took them 30min to make our cocktails while we waited for our food and they had to be repeatedly reminded. the restaurant wasn't even full! the food was ok, but not worth the wait at all. on top of that, when we asked to speak to the manager, the hostess came over instead and LIED to us, saying she is the manager (somebody else told us the manager is a man). she didn't even apologize for the slow service or any other complaints. when we found the real manager, he wasn't very apologetic either. horrible horrible dining experience. not acceptable at all.

So, this is my first restaurant review. Just being honest. I went to 24 prince Friday night for dinner with a good friend. We sat outside in the "backyard", which, while not being full of plants and green things, was a great find considering it was a friday night and we only had to wait 15 minutes and there are NO outside eating places in this neighborhood beside this one, as we discovered walking around the nieghborhood and being told, no, everywhere we went.

The food was good. Actually, very good. Simple, easy and very good. It is not the place that is going to wow you with decadent amazingness, but kind of reminds you of something you could make at home, but, could never make it near as good. Sorry, I'm rambling. But anyways, the food took a long time, my only complaint. Our dessert took at least 20 minutes, which is sad . But it was good.

Regardless of the complaint, the food was very good. The service was amazing. Our server whose name I forget but I think started with an S - Sam - Steve - something like that, was so helpful. He even told us that we had ordered too much food and suggested we order less. and he was right. And, further, he was nice. Not that fake nice, you know, that waiters and waitresses are, but to us, genuinely nice. We asked him what to do in the neighborhood during meal, and when he brought the bill, he brought a list of places and locations where we should go. We are not from New York, so this was amazing.

Sorry to ramble again. But, this restaurant is really good. The back yard-ish area is nice, the service superb and more than knowlegeable, and the feel is very "new york", at least from a seattler's point of view.

I have had brunch at 24 Prince twice now, and the experience isn't getting any better. The reason I usually end up here is because there is a garden in the back, and it is always nice to eat outside. The first time I ate here I had the baked eggs. My friend ordered the chicken salad. Her sandwich came out quickly, but she was almost finished by the time I got my eggs. Once I did get them, they weren't even cooked all the way. They were runny and wet! The second time I got smart and ordered the truffled chicken salad. It was really good. But my friend ordered a salad that we could have made better at home. Don't expect anything extraordinary out of this place, at least for brunch.

Pros: Outdoor seating and amazing chicken salad

Cons: Pricey for the quality of the food

Good old American menu that doesn't offerr much variety, but the food is unbelievably satisfying. Some of my favorites are French Onion Soup, the Meat and Cheese Plate, and Fish and Chips. The prices won't burn a hole in your pocket, and the ambience is good enough to treat your friends there.

Two of us went to 24 Prince for brunch today, and even glimpsed Nikki, the Top Chef contestant popping into the dining room - so we can't excuse the terrible meal based on the idea that the chef wasn't in the kitchen. But the meal was dreadful. The place was nearly empty when we walked in, and there seemed to be a lot of waitstaff around. Throughout the meal they refilled water glasses a million times, but otherwise seemed to be buzzing around trying to figure out what to do.

Coffee was offered quickly and it was fine. We ordered the bread basket while we decided what to order. It took an exceptionally long time for a basket of burnt toast to arrive - setting the stage for their bizarre treatment of bread throughout the meal. Silly me, for six bucks I figured we'd get at least one or two homemade bakery items, but this was a pile of high-end, store bought bread served severely burned.

After a wait the food arrived -- baked eggs that seemed so wet that they were barely baked, and a brioche french toast that seemed that it hadn't even been soaked in eggs, and once again it was burned to a crisp. The french toast looked grim, and tasted worse. We kept the pseudo-baked eggs and sent back the french toast. A replacement plate of scrambled eggs was a much better choice, and even came with some pretty good breakfast potatoes. But it also came with a side of burned toast. What's up with that? They should invest in a quality toaster or just get out of the brunch business.

I went in on Thursday night and I was surprised how busy it was. After learning the chef was going to be on this coming season of TOP CHEF my partner and I were excited. I figured that was why it was so busy. We had to wait 15 minutes and the service was a tad slow but the food was DELICIOUS and just what we wanted. I could tell the servers and mgr were busy but I asked to meet the chef anyway. She is adorable. We will be back.

I cant believe this place is not packed all the time. I had the Tuna and the bartender on Wednesday nights makes a great cocktail. Go before the rest of the world finds about it. The weekends seem to be the busiest time.

Went for brunch today. The restaurant was half empty and we couldn't stomach the wait at other nearby favorites.
The menu is a big snooze, so predictable. Once the food finally arrived after a long wait for a very simple order it was well seasoned and cooked.
Our complaints are with the staff and service. Service was slow and unresponsive, we had to ask for milk for our coffee 3 times because they kept giving us a tiny amount rather than a full container.
Staff were bickering amongst themselves at a loud enough volume for it to be annoying.
The check took ages.
The bathrooms could also be cleaner, the toilet I used has a streak of red/brown who knows what all down the outside of the bowl....repulsive!

This place was certainly nothing to write home about. I half expect that all the good reviews on Citysearch were posted by the owners or their friends.

How is this place still open? Someone's mommy or daddy must be pumping money into this perpetually empty place. After passing this ghost town on a number of occasions we decided to check it out. We (myself and three friends) were treated as if they were doing us a favor even though the restaurant was completely empty on a Wednesday evening. Food took 45 minutes and was just plain garbage. When we inquired as to the whereabouts of our dinner, the waitron told us and I quote "...the A-Hole chef takes her time..." OK. 1) Macaroni and cheese rolls were greasy, empty shells with burned macaroni with what appeared to be tomato soup poured over them. 2) Salmon-overcooked, dirty from the grill with nasty oily cucumbers over uncooked asparagus. 3)Meatloaf- A lump of under seasoned cold-in-the-middle meat, rolled in undercooked pastry dough and topped with something tasting vaguely like BBQ sauce. 4)Fish and Chips-Go to Arthur Treacher's, it's better. What a horror show. Please go away.

A neighborhood restaurant with Great Food and Staff.
My friends and I found this place while walking the neighborhood. Just when we thought that we were running out of options, we find that 24 Prince can host our large group for a party. And it was the most least work that we had to do. Usually, one is running around looking for venues, caterers, flowers, etc. This place did it all for us. And best of all, it was a centralized location for our friends and family. The Backyard was nice, calm and relaxing, it was perfect. The Food was great and delicious. The staff was kind, professional and interactive with everyone. Two enthusiastic thumbs up.

If you're planning a party, don't even bother with this place. I made reservations weeks in advance and even kept in touch with the manager so that the party would go smoothly. Days before, I specifically requested the tables in the garden, under the tent, so that the guests wouldn't suffer in the sun. At the time, the manager agreed to accomodate, granted it wasn't too busy. Fine, that was reasonble enough. We get there, the place is empty and they didn't even have the tables set up. Nobody working there knew what was going on and had us waiting around. No apologies. Finally, they set up the tables and half of them are under the tent and the other half are in the sun, right in front of the doorway. We're all waiting forever for our menus and the sun was getting unbearable. Of course, the guests were suffering in the sun and requested some sort of shade, especially since there were all these outdoor umbrellas lying around. While the waitstaff were trying to figure out how to work one of their umbrellas (which ended up not having the right parts to keep it up), the manager comes out, downplays the guests' suffering, doesn't even try to get the umbrella to work, and says, "This is not going to last for very long. It'll get better in a few mintues." Since when did she control the sun? By this time, I had to say something and she was defensive, condescending, disrespectful and rude. I would think a restaurant manager would do her best to accomodate her guests and make sure they are enjoying their time at her restaurant. And, I would think if you made reservations, they would have the tables set and ready. Apparently, at this restaurant, that's not the case. Now I understand why the place is always empty. The food is mediocre at best and the service is terrible. If you want rude service with a manager that has major attitude, then go here. Otherwise, take your business elsewhere where you'll be treated with respect.

I've gone many times to 24 Prince & everytime that I have gone, I've been treated great!! The staff is very attentive & very friendly. Everyone in there wears a smile on their face! The food is very delicious, the menu has a dozen different options & the staff is willing to alter to your taste. The place is very cozy, great for a spot with your friends or with a date. The food is outrageous and very well prepared. I think everyone should try this restaurant out & see how great it really is!!

BEEN HERE BEFORE BUT I AM TAKING THE TIME TO WRITE THIS REVIEW BECAUSE SOMETHING GREAT HAPPENED HERE. MY FRIENDS AND I - 6 OF US - WENT OUT TO A RESTAURANT FOR ONE OF OUR BIRTHDAYS ON A SATURDAY NIGHT. THAT RESTAURANT MADE US WAIT 2 HOURS!!! FOR A TABLE WE STILL NEVER SAT. WE DECIDED TO WALK AROUND THE CORNER TO 24PRINCE WHERE I SHOULD HAVE SUGGESTED IN THE FIRST PLACE. BUT HERE IS THE GREAT THING...WE GOT THERE AND EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE ON A WAIT THEY SAID THEY COULD SEAT US VERY QUICKLY. WELL WE WERE STARVING AND VERY UNTRUSTING OF THE HOSTESS AT THIS POINT BUT WE DECIDED TO WAIT. I GUESS THE MANAGER OVERHEARD US COMPLAINING ABOUT THE TERRIBLE EVENING WE WERE HAVING AND THEY WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND TO MAKE US FEEL BETTER AND WELCOME. SOMEONE SENT US AN ORDER OF HUMMUS AND SOME INCREDIBLE MAC AND CHEESE ROLL. ( I NEVER HAD THOSE BEFORE BUT THEY SHOULDNT BE SKIPPED.) I JUST WANT TO SAY WE SAT WITHIN 20 MINUTES AND HAD CALMED DOWN BECAUSE OF THE FOOD AND SERVICE. THEY DEFINATLEY WON SOME LOYAL CUSTOMERS ON THIS NIGHT. P.S. THEY SENT MY GIRFRIEND A HOMEMADE CUPCAKE WITH A CANDLE IN IT FOR HER BIRTHDAY AND WE DIDNT EVEN ORDER IT.

A great find. Friends familiar with the neighborhood invited us to this place. Not only were we hanging out with friends, we made new friends. Got there on a busy night, and hung out at the bar for a table. Got seated in a timely manner. The food is tasty and great for sharing for the whole table. Good Wine List. Had a great time. Definitely will come back. Price is awesome.

This is a great restaurant to go without a reservation because it's NEVER busy and the food is consistently good and relatively inexpensive. My only complaints are the bad music and it's always too brightly lit. I eat here once or twice a week because I live in the neighborhood. Over the past few months I have noticed some annoying things about 24 Prince. It seems the majority of the patrons are friends of the owners (i.e.- drunk, obnoxious, ex-soroity/fratenity crowd). Also, the owners hang out at the bar which is weird.

Went for a Friday night dinner with a bunch of girlfriends. The food was very mediocre. It took a ridiculously long time for the appetizers and main course to arrive. The service was the worse, have not had such terrible service in long time. The waitress could not care less. If you want to go to this place, go for drinks only which were pretty good.

I live in the lower east side and tend to stay in my area to eat most of the time. My friends were in town from LA and they wanted to go eat at 24 Prince. After I put up a fight i went to go meet them, they were sitting in the garden which was a nice surprise. We had eveything on the menu (we eat lots) and everything was great. We all walked out very full and a little tipsy. I will be back soon. BIG FAN of the MAC n CHZ

Their "garden" in a depressing concrete slab with a few dead potted plants. Brunch menu seemed good, but the portions were wimpy and the food tasted mediocre at best - even the ice tea tasted bad! Service was nonexistent, waited 20 minutes after asking for the check. No wonder it was dead during Saturday brunch when everything else in the neighborhood was packed! Should've taken that as a clue...

Dined at 24 Prince in the backyard garden. Very easygoing atmosphere. Food was very good with basic American comfort food dishes on the menu. It was a perfect meal for July 4th. The wait staff came by to check on us several times without being intrusive. The price is VERY reasonable for what you get. I would definitely return to 24 Prince. Great date place, too. If you're into very good quality food at a reasonable price, this is for you. If you're into people watching and pretense, head elsewhere.

Came by last week with my girls, going by a recommendation. Lunch was great. It was hot out and the last thing we wanted was patio dining. We get there, and we were given options on where we wanted to sit. Well, I take my words back on the patio. There, we felt like we were not in SoHo. It was so relaxing, and it was cool and quiet. We spent almost 2 hours there. The menu is simple, yet tasty. The Salads are full of flavor, and big in portions. With my girls in tow, we practically tried everything on their menu, and we all agreed that we definitely will be back. Our recommendation is positive, and highly recommended.

I have been coming here for a long time and I frequently browse this site to checkout other restaurants to try. I noticed some of the listings for 24 prince. I had heard the opening chef left several months ago also but for the past few months the food has been as good if not better (there are many new additions). It has not skipped a beat. The backyard is great although it could have a bit more lighting. I highly recommend this restaurant to any new readers. There is not a better value in the city.

I thought the atmosphere was really chic and the food was really good for the price and the type of food it is. It's not just boring regular old american food, these dishes have a twist to them that you don't find too often. The wine list had some great options on it too and the outside garden in the back is perfect for hot summer nights in Soho!

I went here recently and though it is not that expensive - 2 dinners, a bottle of wine and a dessert came to just under $60 - I wouldn't go back. The dinner portions were so small that you left still feeling hungry. The food was nothing special. The desserts were even tinier, -and- they put balsamic vinegar instead of chocolate on top of my chocolate cake! Fortunately the waitress was very ncie about this, and did not give me a hassle about taking the cake off the final bill. Still, I'd rather wait at Habana then go here again.

I went here on a Thursday night with a friend and had a nice leisurely meal. Our waitress wasn't the friendliest, but we never felt rushed. I had the meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans and a glass of wine and after-dinner coffee and yy friend had the mac and cheese, wine, and coffee. We both enjoyed our food and the bill was $50 plus tip.

Dining at 24 Prince on a busy Thursday night, my friend and I were frankly appalled at the food we were served. Not only was the flavor of the food mediocre at best, but the culinary choices made by the chef are just plain wrong-headed. The steak in the steak frites was flavorless and the bernaise sauce served with it equally flavorless. The fingerling potato chips in the fish and chips are not fries as they should be, but a poor attempt at american-style thin chips, bland and soggy. The most confusing bit of the dinner was the taco-shell bowl on which our ceasar salads were served which tasted disturbingly like Doritos. One of the worst meals I've ever had. We will not be back.

I went to my friends bday dinner last weekend at 24 Prince in the downstairs private room. It could not have worked out any better. We were in our own little world, with no one to bother us and our own private bartender. The food was great(as always), and then we just hung out for the rest of the night having drinks and lounging. For anyone looking to have a private dining experience, or a private cocktail party, 24 Prince should be at the top of your list.

As I often do, I was trolling around city search to find a few likely candidates of new restraunts in NYC worth the trouble of traveling outside of my neighborhood. I noticed the exteme contradiction of a 9.3 overall rating for 24 Prince coupled with a few poor service comments. . . .so I HAD to check it out- just to see for myself. I grabbed my gal and we headed downtown for some din-din. We were greeted warmly and lead to corner booth in the center of this "homey-retreat." The food was satisfying and deliciously prepared; from Grandma's fried chicken (I think grandma might actually be IN the kitchen cooking from her own recipes) to the Apple crumble (with CHEDDAR CHESSE ice cream!) . . .and the service was very good: unpretentious yet competent and caring. My gal and I truly enjoyed ourselves we'll be traveling again soon!

Excellent Tasty Food. This is the type and taste of food you want, if not making it for yourself or the fantasy that you want someone to make it for you. Great location. We stopped in with 5 in our party. Waited for 10 minutes and got promptly seated. Smiles from the staff, and great attention given, down to the water refill service. A little noisy when it gets crowded, yet a great hip vibe. Price is a definite factor for our return visit, along with the food and service.

I had passed by this place several times until a neighbor told me I should try it. We waited for 45 minutes to get a table and when I asked how much longer it would be, the hostess was very crabby. When we finally got our table, we were rushed the entire time. It seemed like a lot of people in the restaurant were really concerned about my table, staring at me and my friends. The food was just okay. I had a salty salad and some boring macaroni and cheese that would of been okay if it came in a box marked "stouffer's." The desert, I must say was great. Peanut butter and jelly. We all really enjoyed it until the check was suddenly given to us while we were still eating! Later, I found out my neighbor knows the owner, so I guess that explains it!

What a find! After a very busy day apt. hunting, my husdand and I found ourselves at 24 Prince Street. It was just what the doctor ordered. As we walked in the front door, a very nice young lady greeted us. She seated us in the back by the very clean restrooms. (no I'm not complaining, just making a point). The service was excellent, the waitress can right over and so did the bus boy. The food came soon after our drinks, we had the meat loaf, I didn't care for the greens, but my husband loved them. The Chef, and one of the owners came by our table to welcome us, ( we are from upstate NY), how nice was that!!!! Anyway, we finished our meal with the P&J Sandwich dessert for 2...what a treat. When we visit our daughter in NYC, we will visit 24 Prince Street again.

I went to a friends birthday diner at 24 prince a couple of weeks ago and had a great time in the private room. Everything was great and having your own room really made us feel VIP. So if you have a large enough group looking to have dinner at 24 prince make sure you ask about their private room. Don't forget to try one of the cocktails.

Upon entering a new restaurant in my 'hood, as I opened the door I was pleasantly greeted with a smile from the cutie behind the bar. Another gentleman asked if he could take my coat and asked if I would be joining them for dinner. I was waiting for another guest and decided to sit. I enjoyed a great glass of red and looked over the menu. We decided to order a bottle of the red - that was warming my body from the cold. We ate the downtown chopped salad, meatloaf, and the burger. It was the best meal to complement my wine. The gentleman who sat us, said that we "MUST" have dessert and sent us a complimentary Banana Bread Pudding. 2 words - Perfect Comfort!

My friends and I came here for dinner last night, we waited about 5min (probably because of the impending blizzard). At first the host was rude and I was thinking that all the reviews about the bad service were right, but he must have had a bad moment because he then turned on the charm and was amazing all night. The food is okay, but not great. I had the fish n chips which were a lacking flavor, but my friends orderd the meatloaf and the risotto which were amazing. The famous mac n' cheese starts to harden after a while, so eat it fast! Overall, I would recommend this restaurant, but it's not something I would go back to for a second meal. (PS. They only take reservations for parties of 6 or more).

this spot is by far the best new addition to one of the last great neighborhoods in the city. I live on the block. They deliver now too. I love that my girlfriend and i go in there and the bartender knows my drink and the owners are always around to make sure we are getting great food. Hope more regulars write in to support this place, although i love that is still not a rediculous wait for a table. Weekends are busier. I read the review about the bad event but thats how we found this spot. We were invited to a party in the lounge.

I went here to eat last night. The atmosphere was nice. However, the service wasn't all that. It all began with the bar tender. Then it gradually got worse and worse with each of the wait staff that we encountered. Each and everyone of them just had bad attitudes. They should really get someone in there to coach them how to talk to people. Besides, the sucky service the food was okay especially the dessert. I don't think I'll ever go back again due to the service though.

I've been to 24 Prince on 3 occassions for different reasons. I'm still trying to figure out all the hype. I think the food and service have gotten progressively worse. It's one thing not to rush customers but they just totally forget about you. The mac and cheese rolls were good the first time around, but the last time I had them they didn't have any cheese inside. The space and the decor are nice, but overall, it's just not worth it.

It's one thing not to rush customers but they just totally forget about you. The mac and cheese rolls were good the first time around, but the last time I had them they didn't have any cheese inside. The space and the decor are nice, but overall, it's just not worth it.

Pros: Price

Cons: Service, Quality of Food, Errors on the bill

Editorial from

The exterior of this Nolita eatery, comprised of a row of floor-to-ceiling windows and a difficult-to-read sign, is unassuming. Trendy touches--boxy wine racks, oddly shaped banquets--fill the space, along with more vintage speakeasy nods…
