The Hen House's scallops are to die for! Delicious!! We really enjoy their food!! And, their dinner theatre productions are out of this world. Prices are very reasonable and the hospitality and customer service is out of this world. Thanks Gary and Bill for a great dining experience each of the many times we've eaten there!
I took my wife there for our anniversary. We were sat down very quickly. It was the middle of the week so it was not busy so I thought that it would be very quick to get our meal. Well I was wrong.
Our drinks were about the fastest thing that we got. We ordered an alcholic beverage with the meal. Her drink was very watered down which she said that to the watress and it was not replaced or taken off the bill.
The salad was decent. The dressing alright. Soup was terrible.
She had fish which tasted too fishy.
I had a sort of captain's platter that was not that bad but the biggest issue was the shrimp were not devained.
She ordered a second drink that was once again watered down and too much ice.
When I meantioned that the fish was terrible and the two drinks she went to talk to the manager. When she returned she said that they would not take it off the bill.
So for a 90 dollar meal was this worth it? I think not
My wife and I are always looking for new and exciting places to take groups on our motorcycles to. We thought we had found such a place in the Hen House. We stumbled onto this place in June while on a ride to Hershey and Gettysburg, PA. I-68 across western Maryland is one of the most beautiful roads in the country. Top ten anyway. So, we started recommending the Hen House to our friends and were starting to plan a ride down historic US 40, a ride of a little over 200 miles from our house. We made this ride to check out the route and services along the way so we could plan a group ride. We did have a group ride planned in Aug. down the Blue Ridge Parkway and were going to use Frostburg as a staging area. Since riders from other states were going to join us, we decided on Frostburg for our gathering place. Since my wife and I had eaten at the Hen House and found the food very good, we were going to bring this business to them and the nice little town of Frostburg.
I called on Friday to find out the hours we could order off the dinner menu. I was told anytime after 11:00 I could order off the dinner menu, although the dinner hours started at 4:00. After a ride of more then 200 miles we were told we could not, in fact, order from the dinner menu until after 4:00. I asked to speak with the manager. The waiter went to summons the manager, but returned stating that the manager would not see me. I repeated my request and again was denied. I called on the phone and got through to the manager, and was called a liar by him. When I asked how come he had time to talk to me on the phone but could not step through the door and speak with me, he became very belligerent.
My wife and I left without ordering. When planning group rides in the future not only will the plans not include the Hen House, but the motels and other local business in Frostburg will also loose out, as Frostburg will not be a stop.
Over all review, the food at the Hen House if very good. Heaven help you if you have a problem as the management of the Hen House does not care about customer care. When a manager can't be bothered with a customer after that customer traveled over 200 miles for no other reason but to eat at their place of business, then that is not a place I want to spend my money.
