In Short
This New York chain of Irish pubs opens its sixth location in the heart of the Gold Coast in the former NY Steakhouse space. To mimic that traditional tavern look, the decor is wood heavy, with a 53-foot mahogany bar, chrome fixtures, banquet seating and more than nine plasma TVs for sports fans. Celtic fare includes cold-weather faves shepherd's pie and chicken pot pie. Eggs Maryland and omelettes bring in the brunch crowd.

On Fridays and Saturdays, they stay open till 4am or 5am, so you get a pretty crazy crowd then. Large, open spaces, good DJs, good spot for a parties.

Ratings_icons Best Experience!

I recently had my birthday party at McFadden's because my friends said they ALWAYS have a good time there. Indeed it was an amazing night! Service was great, bartenders were friendly, and music was terrific! It's a great place to bring a ton of people for a night out on the town! My friends from out of town absolutely loved the bar and definitely want to go back when they come in town again. Great bar. No doubt about it.

Pros: great staff

Cons: none

Ratings_icons HORRIFIC!

Went to McFadden's a couple of weekends ago for a friends birthday and was surprised by how awful it was! The DJ was horrible, played nothing good to dance to. It was way too hard to get a bartenders attention to get a drink. Unfortunately, the only think you could count on was having creepy guys hitting on you all night! Would NOT recommend this bar to anyone.

Ratings_icons Worst. Bar. Ever.

Do you like silicone breasts? Do you like women that are so made up that they might look like Dom Delouise if you were to actually take them home and see them sans makeup? How about the smell of Tommy Cologne wafting through a sea of frat boys in pink shirts? Does that turn you on? If you answered yes to any of these questions, number one, I hope we never meet, and number two, this might be the bar for you!

This was by far the WORST bar I've been to in Chicago.
If the DJ worked in an office, he would be the guy that everyone calls "Douchebag Chris" behind his back.
The music was horrible, loud, and dated.
In fact, the entire scene was horrible, loud, and dated.
It brought me back to my days of going to frat parties as a high school junior...only minus the charm.
Stay away from this waste of a bar.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Everything

Ratings_icons Most easy going bar in gold coast

hottie80

My friends and I are always in the area but never went to Mcfaddens because of the long lines to get in. We went there last week for my friend's birthday party. The party package was inexpensive for the area, which is awesome. But the music was way to loud and dated for our tastes. The crowd there is younger and clean, which we liked. Also, we like that it's easy to be yourself there and not having to worry about acting stupid, because every around us was. Some of us were actually on top of the bar dancing. The price's for drinks were moderate but the service was nice. We had this hot bartender named south side who had us all on the floor laughing, one of my girlfriends actually hooked up with him with later. Overall, our experience was a good one. We will definately be back soon and would recommend it to anyone for a great time.

Pros: service, easy going vibe.

Cons: loud music, over-over crowded.

Most of the time when we go to McFadden's, we have a great time, except that it's difficult to hear during dinner time. They might want to think about waiting to turn the music up later in the night. Food's good, but a bit overpriced. Despite what they may think, we're not actually in New York.

Pros: Good food

Cons: WAY too expensive, too loud during dinner

Ratings_icons Good bar, a little pricey

jilli10582

McFadden's is a good solid bar, but isn't one of my favorites. They have a tendency to keep the music a bit too loud to hold a conversation, and happy hour gets overly crowded - i.e. elbows in your sides, knocked drinks, etc. The food is pricier than the happy hour specials you'd find on Division, though it's arguably also better. Since it's new, they give out happy hours often, where you can get an open bar for all of your friends for $10 apiece or so, for maybe 2 hours. It's a good bar to go with a ton of people though.

Pros: trendy, good food

Cons: a bit pricey, overcrowded, and loud

I know the other two reviews were bad but you seriously have to try and not have a good time at this bar. The staff is friendly, music is good (a little loud for happy hour), great drink specials and the sunday day is a goodtime, Thanks Jay!

Seriously think about checking it out!

Ratings_icons Just Plain Bad

port8888

I have been to this place only a couple of times with each experience being worse than the one before. Whether it is late night, early, or for friends party the crowd, service, DJ, and atmosphere have been disappointing. It reminds me of a bad college bar that needs to be shut down. This place had some potential but it is just another trashy spot that would be better placed on Division Street then try and hold ground around the corner on State. I would not recommend this place and I wont be back. To those who like the bar. Stay there and have your fun, but its not for me. - Side note they had the worst music I've heard in Chicago for a long time -

Pros: bar decor

Cons: DJ, Staff

took over 15 min to get a drink when bar was crowded on a thurs night. there were about 8 bartenders behind the bar...most just hagning out back there and not one to get us our drinks! Drinks were fairly weak once we did get them. Music is aweful. Crowd is lame at best. More like a college bar not a gold coast bar!

Cons: overcrowded, music selections, service
