Reading your comments were very disturbing, although I have been to Sanctuary and can relate to some of the comments. However if you havent been to Sanctuary recently you should give it another shot. The staff seems to be a lot more professional, the work is fabulous, and most importantly the salon is under new ownership and management. The decor is slowly but surely improving, the music is still a bit questionable at times and I do believe all the girls have been or soon will be no-chip certified! Its is a small setting, but you dont feel like you are in a factory. The prices are cheaper than Ambra and Trump. And since the change in ownership, the salon atmosphere is much more comfortable!

Unbelievable manicure! It truly lasts for 2 weeks- if its done correctly. I did it for over a year and mostly was very happy. But if an inexperienced person did it, it would peel off within a week- hardly worth the $. The operators are often running behind- once I was left waiting almost an hour before my service started, and I have friends who have experienced the same thing. The staff is nice but the atmosphere is not very customer-friendly- staff is watched like a hawk and criticized in front of customers, isn;'t very accommodating when there are problems- very uncomfortable if you're in the chair. But yet I go back...so nice to have great looking nails...

Pros: 2 weeks with no chips

Cons: always late, poor customer service,

The atmosphere is cheap and noisy. The owner has a very bad temper. She says things about clients behind their backs and loses her temper with her staff. Other salons in Chicago offer the no-chip manicure now (Ambra, Trump, etc).

I have been going to Sanctuary Nail Spa for 4 months. I LOVE the No Chip manicure and Azmira who does my nails. Does the spa smell like acrylic, sure but don't they all? Yes, you have to sit on hard benches for your pedicure but I have NEVER had a better pedicure and I also have No Chip on my toes. The place is busy and no it isn't very relaxing, it doesn't bother me because my nails look great for 2 weeks!!! I have sent 2 girlfriends there over the past few weeks and they are hooked. If you are looking to have a relaxing manicure go to a real spa, if you are looking to have fantastic nails for 2 -3 weeks, no chips, no cracks then go to Sanctuary. It's unfortunate all the reviews I have read on this site have been negative because I am SUPER picky on my nails and I wouldn't go anywhere else!

I had the no chip manicure done at a salon downtown, Ambra
I did not want to have it done but my girlfriend would not shut up about it.
It has truly changed my life and that of all my friends. I have gone up to 4 weeks with no chipping at all.

try Zuzana at Ambra Spa on State and Superior.
Amazing!!

I am not giving Sanctuary any stars (but had to give them one star in order to post this comment) because I to went to Sanctuary's and I am very sorry that some of you are experiencing what I have experienced in the pass; thick no chip manicures that ruin your nails by untrained no chip manicurist. There are other places with trained and certified Techs in Chicago. Vernadine is at the Le Petite Spa ($35-$40) does no buffing!!! Your nails remain healthy!! She recently started working at the Honey Child Salon downtown on the weekends. (cant afford the downtown prices). I believe Essentials Nails on Clark and Michael Anthony's Does them also. Vernadine (very reasonable prices at the Le Petite Spa). also has a website at ww.nochipmanicure.com and she is trained and certified; you will notice a difference in your nails. This application is not like the typical U.S gel which hardens the nails and ruin your nails upon removal; this no chip gel(in from Africa) is thin and bends when your nail bends. Also Vernadine will teach you how to remove your no chip at home (for free)! It should not be thick and hard to come off. She calls herself the "No Chip Specialist," AND would spray your hands and nails with the sanitizer and do a mini mani before each application. She also has an article on ezinearticle.com just type in no chip manicure. Trained and Certified No Chip Specialist here in Chicago my recommendation is Ms. Vernadine You can also check out the other locations havent heard any complaints about them either!!!

I have had 4 no-chip manicures at Sanctuary and when I had the last one removed, I couldn't believe the condition my nails were in. They certainly weren't strong like the ad leads you to believe, but rather thin and peeling. My nails could hardly be filed without ripping. Whatever length they had, instantly gone! The polish is gel and you are getting the same procedure as one gets when having gel nails. It's all in the way it's advertised. Your nails will get thinner and thinner with the heavy hands filing the tops of the nails each time the color is removed, to remove the gel residue. It has come to my knowledge there is only one person in the salon that is trained in the no-chip procedure. Each nail technician is suppose to be trained. I found it interesting when I asked to have the polish removed and just have clear on them, the owner wanted to know why and told me my nails were fine. I would also be weary of the disinfecting that is done to the instruments, the 2 universal nail brushes at the sink, and same files that are used on every client. I found it odd that once the receptionist scheduled me in the book with a different nail tech, the owner told me I couldn't go to that person unless I requested her because she has enough clients and I needed to be scheduled with someone else. What is that all about along with the weird pay scale. Does everyone pay a different amount? I will not be returning to that hole in the wall nail place. The no-chip will ruin your nails regardless of what they tell you. The girls that have no idea what their nails look like are the ones that have been getting the manicures for a long time and have no clue.

The place is very small but I like the no chip manicure. I didnt like the fact that we had to sit on hard benches to get our pedicure. But it is the no chip manicure that everyone is screaming about at this place. Not too many places offer the no chip manicre. I found two other locations: I found another location at 4058 North Sheridan called (Le Petite Spa) (773) 244-2373another small but cozy place however they have facials and massages. Le Petite is in a garden setting but there are at least windows. The pedicures are done from a bowl but your sitting in a comfy chair. Its more private and everyone is not piled on top of each other. I would rather go to Le Petite (there are windows) than to the Sanctuary; Plus I cannot stand the smell of acrylic. It is an article on acrylic how it messes with the nervous system and causes confusion. Very disturbing,,,thats why some of them wear mask....

I agree with the last review....Sancuary is very misleading...I felt like I was getting a service done in my kitchen. The place is extremely small...making the smell bothersome. Very pricey for such a hodgepodge atmosphere.

$60 for a mani/pedi would be better spent at any other nail salon or spa. First off, the name is misleading. This is not a "sanctuary"; the smell is overwhelming, decor blinding and music so "generic elevator" that I felt nauseous from the second I walked in. Nail polish selection was smaller than the little salon down the street. No massage chairs (they have you sit on an uncomfortable hard bench for your pedi) and take forever. We didn't have the same girls for mani/pedi so tipping was challenging and they split us up so that we all had to wait for the other to get done (literally 3 of us were done before they even started on the fourth!) Unfortunately I had left my credit card # for 4 appts that when i asked if we could cancel (before we started) I was told they would charge full price for all the services even if we didn't stay to get them. So we stayed - amongst the glares and eye rolling for expressing our dissatisfaction. And, to top it all off, within two days my nail polish had peeled off completely. With all of the options in this city for nails, it would be a shame to spend your money and your time here...

I came here to get a manicure because I heard about the no chip manicure. I was kinda skeptical but I got a manicure anyways. 2 weeks later my polish was still holding strong even after washing dishes, cooking, picking up after my kids. It was great and worth the money I will definitely be back.
