Awful place. Inept, rude, uneducated management. Personal trainers are pathetic; more like glorified clipboard holders. The worst of the bunch is Brian Brown (yes, the guy who has an inferiority complex and walks around with his chest artificially pushed out and his yellow shoes and Grateful Dead tattoo on his shoulder)... Don't forget about the fact that Big Vanilla was SUED several years back for sexual harassment (to blame is Chuck Hall, the Executive Director). The case was eventually settled for a $161,000 payout to the plaintiffs (Google it). Do you want to patronize a gym where the individual responsible for the sexual harassment IS STILL EMPLOYED AS THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR???? AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Called to get a price on membership. I had previously been a member, but moved to LA Fitness because they have month-to-month and better pricing along with access to clubs nationwide. However, I was considering moving back for Racketball, but I could not get a price out of the sales guy. I told him what I wanted to know (Price for family on contract and month-to-month). He asked how many folks were in the family and ages and I told him. He then started asking for additional information like phone number, etc. I told him that I just needed a price and he said that they didn't do it that way. I said "OK Bye."
Don't waste your time with these folks. They don't get it. People are moving in herds away from their kind of lockup contracts and they cannot even provide a price for their services. I wanted to go back if it made sense - but cannot figure that out without providing a lot of unnecessary info. If I don't join, you don't need my number. I'll stay with LA Fitness on Jumpers Hole Road. Give them a call for answers.

Big mistake signing up. Didn't learn until later that I could have tried a 7 day pass. After a quick review of the machines, you are left on your own. What is really upsetting is that you have to give 25 days advance notice before cancelling even is it health related. I paid month to month to start because I was trying to increase my cardio. Twenty days before my next billing, an EKG revealed that my heart was erractic and only working at 80% so I could not continue exercise. BUT I still had to pay for a full month plus a $25 late fee.

I became a member of this gym as soon as they opened enrollment. The facility is nice but extremely over priced at $59 per month. Furthermore, at that price you would expect to get some customer service but instead you get barked at by the woman that is the retail manager because you are standing outside at 5:00am patiently waiting for the facility to open its doors. I canceled my membership and have since switched to a facility with half the price and quadruple the customer service.

I have visited many gyms in MD trying to find the right one for me and my family and stopped my search when I discovered Big Vanilla Athletic Club. This gym has a state of the art facility with so many programs, and amenities. It has a large variety of fitness equipment, pools open year round, a cafe, kids club, martial arts, racquetball...you name it! This place is more than just a gym and definitely worth the visit. Everyone is also so friendly.

I recently went into the Big Vanilla to see the club and get the cost of joining for my family. The sales manager "Jack" told me he could give me a deal if I joined that day. I was very impressed with the club and came back with my family and a "7-day free pass" but was told I could not get the deal he had offered me earlier if I wanted to use the free pass. Was he afraid we wouldn't like it in those 7 days or what ?
I was told that the sales people work on commission.
I was ready to join but we didn't like the pressure so we walked out. The Big Vanilla lost a big sale.

This is the closest gym to our new house and it seems nice when you look at it - clean and fairly big. They are geared to families, not serious lifters or work-out fanatics. Everything is pretty spread out and is usually pretty busy in the weight area. You can't do a circuit because as soon as you leave one bench or weight, someone has taken it. There is a lot of cardio equipment and usually I don't have to wait for a treadmill. I don't have kids yet, but I can see the great benefit of having daycare at the gym while you work out. If you want classes and cardio equipment, it's great, but if you want to lift weights, prepare to wait.

Big Vanilla is a horrible place to go. I WAS a member here. Until I met the General Manager. I REFUSE to belong to a gym where the manger calls me an idiot to my face. Heed the warning- do not get a membership.
