Please. Manager, can you insist that ALL workers in the deli wear hair nets when serving cooked food. Thanks.

Unsatisfactory! This store gives me the creeps. It looks unclean and nasty. The staff there is nice and courtous; however; the quality of the food looks old. There are a lot of things that needs to be updated! One day my baby and I was in the store and he stated, mommie this store is nasty.....

I was not impressed at all. My child worked there an was trained for one day. and put on a register the next day. and was fired due to shortage in register, She wasn't given a second chance. the management there is not professional at all. She wasn't given an handbook on anything on how to operate a register. this was her first job and management was aware of that. Hopefully, the future employees get better treatment. thks

just moved to the area, and had been shopping at kroger. A neighbor told me about VowellIs. We went to the store to get some stuff to grill, and it was probably half the price of kroger. Kingsford charcoal was only 7.99 a big bag and I paid 11$ for same bag at kroger. We had ribeyes cut for us and was only $15 for a family pack. Same pack would be almost $30 at kroger. Need I say I will be going back soon!! I got money to grill next week now! -Red-

I was wondering if vowells had a web site, and I discovered this. If anyone from the store reads this I would like to say how impressed I was with the store. I visited with my grandmother, and I think every person in the store spoke to us. The store manager even took my grandmothers groceries to her car. We ate in the deli and it was only $5.00. Not too many grocery stores like that anywhere. Loved it.

would like to be able to look up the specials but not able to find out how. If you send e-mails to customers about weekly or daily specials please do. Your store is always clean and well stocked. The only thing I feel needs improvement is to open more lanes to check out. I have never been in your store and there be more than 2 lanes open at a time no matter how many customers are waiting. Waiting time to check out is avg 20 mins.

Vowells is horrible when it comes to customer service. I agree with the comments about Julie. I have never in my life seen someone in a managment position that was so rude and arrogant. She has called me a liar and when I proved to be correct, she only passed blame to another employee instead of admitting that she was incorrect and of course there was no apology. She has been confrontational to me in front of other customers on more than one visit to the store. The only reason I go in there is because it is next door to where I live. I would give them no stars if I could but it makes you give at least one.

I have shopped this store frequently for two years. The store has a pattern of frequent and repeated pricing mistakes.

On Feb. 25 and again on Feb. 25, I purchased a certain size boxed item that rang up at the checkout for the price of the next largest size, which was 27% more than the correct shelf price. The night manager, Ben, was running the checkout both times and disputed my challenge of the price but refused to send anyone to check the price. He was insulting and rude because I did not willingly agree to pay more than the correct price!

His failure to check the price caused me to test what I believe is a systematic approach to deliberate incorrect pricing at this store. On Mar. 16, I again purchased the exact same item which again rang up incorrectly.

The same night manager, Ben, was present once again. I informed him that the item remained incorrectly priced and made it a point to let him know further action was about to be initiated.

The next day, March 17th, the item had been corrected in the checkstand computers, as I bought another one. Thus for a period of at least 19 days, everyone who purchased that item at Vowell's in Byram was overcharged.

The manager, Ben, had been told of the issue on three occasions without making any effort to correct it. I will leave it to the readers of this post to determine if that constitutes a "willful and deliberate" attempt to defraud customers...or is it just a totally incompetent and lazy manager? You decide.

I have shopped in this grocery store since it was built in Byram. The names have changed over the years, first Jitney then Winn-Dixie and now Vowell's, but regardless which company occupied it, I continued to patronize the store because of it's convenience for me. Times have changed and this somewhat quiet part of the county is growing by leaps and bounds. Unfortunately with that crime is up and that is where I need to address shoppers who need to buy groceries at Vowell's.

Please, go early in the daytime if at all possible. In the day time the clerks, the stockers, produce, meat market, deli personnel and others are nicer, much more helpful, industrious and professional than the evening shift. The rough crowds that have taken to hanging out in the parking lot and their threatening actions leave me wondering if I'm going to make it from and to my car in one piece.

One very bad trend is the horrible service from some of the employees at night and the awful attitude from the check out clerk. There is a need for tighter security in the parking lot, plus for the evening shift, give them a short course on courtesy to patrons as it would go a long way in helping Vowell's business.

In the mean time I will shop early and do my best to avoid the night time crowd and evening shift clerks and baggers who smashed $39.82 worth of my groceries of a total of $234.19.

Then there is the clerk who never said one word of greeting or acknowledgement, not even a smile and then after my huge purchase just handed me my receipt in an off hand way, no thank you, just shoved the last bag at me and said "Here take this. Put that in." Two men were busy chatting her up, the bagger and the security guy (he was wearing a black T-shirt that said "Security") she never missed a beat in conversing with them, while my groceries were getting broken, boxes bent, chips flattened and tomatoes crushed. The bread and eggs were placed last on the conveyor to keep them safe, ahh .. but to no avail, they too suffered the same fate from the inattentive clerk. Funny how after spending all that money I couldn't get help taking it out to my car. She again was too busy talking.

I work long and hard for my money, I also plan for these purchases carefully to last until I can get paid again, the exception usually being milk, eggs and bread. I was shocked and dismayed, over many months of (once per week during the evening) doing after work shopping. It was and is a chronic problem, one I cannot stress enough to management. The evening shift needs someone who can oversee them and their behavior, before it affects your business and in a detrimental way. It's either that, or I will continue on down Siwell Road and give your competitor my money. Oh, and then there is the problem with items ringing up at the incorrect price ... Sign me, "Disgusted with the night shift at Vowell's in Byram"

After reading the review for Vowell's that was written in 2006 (a few months after they had opened), I wanted to give an update. As of July 2007, a new manager has taken over who is great with the customers and employees. The prior mananger was just to the point of he didn't care anymore. Since the new one took over, the employees seem to be a lot happier to be there, and the customer service has picked up. Several of the employees that were not in key positions are now in key positions that were occupied by people that really didn't care. The store itself has really done a 180 degree flip from summer of 2007. As not only a customer to Vowell's, but also an employee, we have now got a HUGE selection on the baby products, along with actual grocery products and deli area. Thanks for taking time to read this, and hope to see you at Vowell's!

This is a new grocery store, that replaced Winn Dixie. It has decent prices, and friendly workers, but the selection is greatly lacking. I wanted to buy a box of diapers for my daughter, and all they had were small packs. They only had three choices of her baby food, and did not have her diaper rash cream. This also applies to other items. Hopefully, they will realize they need to add more selection, then I would be a regular customer.
