Last night I ordered the sashimi sampler, some sort of roll and chicken udon noodles.

The sashimi sample was served on a bed of ice and the fish was extremely fresh. The sushi was ok, there were 8 small pieces. The soup base of the udon noodle was like soy sauce + water + a little seasoning.

I have to say the sashimi was superb. Hope they keep up the quality.

This place is always packed, I assume because of the location. There is no other reason to eat here. The wait staff is pretentious and unhelpful, the food is very average and the prices are outrageous. There are so many better places to get sushi in town (Aka and Oishi come immediately to mind) that there is really no reason to waste time (you will have to wait for a table most nights) and/or money on this garbage.

This is a true story!! I've eaten at Fish several times and was not terribly impressed nor was I terribly disappointed. However, a few days ago a friend of mine took me up there to meet some of her friends for dinner and drinks. We arrived a little late and ordered drinks (her friends had already eaten). We were sitting there chatting when my friend suddenly looks down in horror and pushes away from the table. When I looked down to see what the problem was, I saw a giant R0ACH crawling across the edge of the table in front of her! One of her friends quickly scooped it up in a napkin and took it to show the manager. As if that wasn't bad enough, while he was up showing our new friend to the manager, ANOTHER one ran across the exact same spot on the table and we all stood up. When he returned we asked if he was sure he had the first visitor in the napkin when he left and he assured us he did. So this was definitely a second attempt of invasion by the insect community on our meal. Needless to say, we decided not to order any food and just had our one round of drinks before promptly leaving. I will NOT be dining at this restaurant again!

I have sampled sushi all over the U.S. and Asia, it is my favorite meal! The Fish does not do sushi...fabulous cocktails and atmosphere...but the actual fish is poor quality and the dishes and rolls compromise appetizing tastes for creativity. Though even the most simple and traditional menu options tasted off. Was it an off night? I doubt it. I have yet to meet a sushi fan that recommends the sushi at The Fish. Maybe the romantic lighting is confusing the chef?

Houston has lots of great seafood restaurants, this is NOT one of them! You might want to bring earplugs too.

I get that this place is trendy and that the Midtown crowd is willing to sacrifice some degree of quality for ambience. And I can tolerate the mediocre food at Cyclone Anaya's and Farrago, but Fish really pushes my limits. For starters, the place SMELLS like fish -- never a good sign for a sushi restaurant. The sushi is overpriced and sub-par -- just slightly below average on its best night. I've been three times and with each visit the service has gotten worse. My experiences have shown the staff to be inattentive, uninformed and unapologetic, all of which I would be willing to overlook if the food was stellar. Sadly, it's not. Not even close.

If you want great sushi, skip Fish altogether and head to Osaka just a couple of miles away.

OK Here is the Deal. Red walls give a sultry atmosphere, great place for a date. The sushi is ok and rolls were creative. The sashimi was fresh but a little skimpy. A good place to go early in the evening before hitting the town and taking a little stroll to the tasting room. Ok, Big Tex is a fair reviewer, so I'll tell you something that annoyed the snot out of me. While we were eating sushi, some gal was walking between the tables with her baby to keep it from crying. The rocking and swaying chapped my hide. You are going to shell out some dough here so you don't need some kind of baby dance 6 inches from your table. The restaurant could have sent them packing, this is not a place for kids. Big Tex will likely go back, but they are on probation!

the food was mediocre at best, and the waitress treated us with open contempt. my girlfriend had an empty water glass virtually the whole time we were there. we eventually had to wave down a waiter from a different section for service.

The service is inconsistent, sometimes good and sometimes just plain bad. They seem to pay more attention to customers who buy them drinks and shots, which was the case last time I was there. Not coming back. I rather take my business to better sushi establishments in the Houston area.

Pros: Atmosphere, Central location

I have eaten here a few times and never been overly impressed by their food or service. I have never felt it was the "freshest" tasting sushi in town; especially for the price. I would have written the same review of the food, even before I ate there on Friday and my suspicions were confirmed; I got really sick!! Please don't see this as a jaded reveiw; take it as you wish. Like I said, I have always felt like their sushi wasn't as fresh as it could be. I can think of many other places that have great, fresh sushi at the same price or CHEAPER! The service was decent.

Cons: Sushi not fresh

The sushi at this place is okay but nothing special. There are a lot of places around town that serve better sushi for a lot lower prices.

The service is downright awful. I had to complain to the manager (something I almost never do) and the manager was even more rude than the servers. With so many sushi places around town there is no reason to pay for overpriced food and poor service. I will not be back.

I admit.. I could eat sushi pretty much anywhere, it's my absolute favorite food. But, anytime my friends and I want to meet up for drinks and dinner, we always choose the Fish. The atmosphere, music, and people make it a fun place to go before hitting the town. You HAVE to try the hot roll and lobster roll.. there's nothing else like those two anywhere in Houston.. The service is a bit slow but who cares when you're out with your friends drinking and talking? I love it there and have been over 20 times.

The Fish has been a favorite place of mine for its location and great food. However, I would NOT recommend it, as the service is extremely horrible. It is interesting to me how they can find such bad service people in such a great city. If you do decide to go, request that you not be seated in Tracie's area, as she almost always acts as though her boyfriend just dumped her, which is a shame since she could actually be kind of pretty if she would just smile and act like she didn't hate her job. The management of this place should really pay attention to the service aspect, since they seem to have gotten it right on the atmosphere and the food.

I have been to this restaurant on three separate occassions and have never had a good experience (I don't plant to be back for a fourth). The food is decent, though nothing exceptional. The fatty tuna is consistently bland (yet costs $8 a piece) and I have yet to have a dish there that really blew me away. The portions are also smaller than any other sushi place that I've been to, and yet this place is by far the most expensive sushi restaurant that I've ever encountered. The service is horrendous and the overall attitude of the staff is pretentious and uninviting. I had to speak to the manager on my most recent visit and he was rude and condescending. Overall, there are several sushi places that I would recommend before this one just on the quality of the food alone. When you add in the factors of atmosphere, service, and price there is simply no reason to go to The Fish for sushi or anything else for that matter.

The sushi is fabulous. I eat here frequently and have never had bad service, even when it is packed on the weekends. The peppercorn tuna is amazing. And the banana tempura dessert is heavenly. Huge bento boxes for lunch. The fish is very fresh. Wonderful place!

This was my second time going here (the first was okay). The waitress was all too ready to give us some more hot saki, but never around to ask how we were doing. The food came-one of my rolls was not ready, although my partner had the same roll and it was served. The rolls were tinier than any I have eatten in a (good) sushi establishment. They tasted worse than what you could get at your local grocery store. By the time the other roll came, I had already finished eatting. And boy, was I not happy when that check came. Extremely overpriced for what it's worth. I could have gone to a good/expensive restaurant for what we paid here.

!SNUBBED! is the way i will call their great service.(sarcastic) I guess if your from the east coast one would be accustomed to this type of service. But I'm NOT!. I was waiting over 30 minutes and watching people go in with the same amount of people in my party.Maybe it was that I did not fit the type of persona that they want for a client or could they be ? because of my Mexican wife and half breed kids ,I also had a visitor from out of town with me, I left and will never go back. Too bad for them cause we dropped at least $300 in 2 different sushi spots that night plus tips .THE FISH=THE WORST!

It is a shame I can't come back here again because the last two times I have been here with my boyfriend we have had horrible service. I love their sushi, but the service terrible. You have to wait forever to get the bill, and forget about getting a refill. The speciality sushi rolls are wonderful, once you get them. My favorites are the hot roll, the catepillar roll, and the lickty-split. Unfortunately because of the bad service, my boyfriend refuses to come back here.

To the restaurant: You are a great sushi restaurant, and I would much rather support your business than chain sushi restaurants, but you need to improve your service to keep your clientel loyal. I want to be able to come back and eat here. Please do something about your poor service.

i've been to plenty of sushi restaurants around town and hands down this is one of the best. service was great, he supplied us with everything we needed and was more than knowledgeable about the menu. their weekend special roll was amazing, but don't count on it being there, server said it was just for the weekend. ambience was a little loud but it was the weekend and we were in midtown so it was expected. all in all, excellent experience. we will definatly be returning, maybe this time on a weekday.

I am not a sushi person, and I really like this place. They had enough "non-scary" sushi for someone like me to try, and had plenty of other things on the menu as well. The "trendiness" factor gets a little annoying to me, but that is just the area, and probably appeals to most people in there. That said, it is great people watching down there!

My husband and I love sushi, we have been to Japan several times because of his business. I know how it should be done and how the real thing differs from what we get here in the states. With that being said, we are not in Japan, we are in Houston, and The Fish does it well. The lush, red glow in the room made me look younger, always a welcome thing, and the rolls and sashimi were fresh and properly made. The sake, which we had cold, was lovely. I always get the tempura everywhere I eat sushi, and The Fish did it very nicely... delicate batter, moist interior. The service was excellent and discreet and we had a great time!

This is my favorite Sushi spot in houston, or even Texas!

The shoi roll and the hot roll are must-haves if you have never tried them. The staff is friendly and the food is always excellent. The wait can be long on weekends and the food sometimes is slow late on friday or saturday night. Weekday service is quick and equally as good. Since i live close by i avoid it on the weekends and go during the week when the wait time is less!

This is a great restaruant. Great ambiance and most of all excellent sushi! You must try it and see!

We waited for an hour and a half to get seated. After we got seated it took an hour and 10 minutes before we got our food. Yes the manager did give us drinks to compensate for the time taken in seating us and delivering our food to us. In addition, when we ordered a mohito when seated, we got everything but that. It started off with lime juice with a drop of rum. After which a martini was presented to us. Finally after 30 minutes a Mohito was delivered to us. I would definitely recommend Osaka over The Fish as far as service, value for money and quality of sushi.

I have had sushi at about 50 different sushi bars across the US and would say that the quality of sushi at The Fish is in my top 5 for sure. I recently moved to Houston and had heard that this place was a little pricey but man would I pay for this sushi. It really is a step above the rest. I tried the Alaska Roll from here and also from another local sushi bar. No comparison. Not to mention there is always plenty of eye candy so you won't get bored waiting for your food!

I hit The Fish for lunch one day in August. Got there at 11:30 and my party was the second table in use. Placed out order 5 minutes later and finally got our sushi 40 minutes after that. I do not how most other sushi bars can turn out a plate of sushi in 5 minutes when they are slammed and this place takes 40 minutes when ther are only 2 tables in use and a total of 8 people in the restaurant. Over priced for average sushi.

I have been to most of the sushi restaurants in Houston and rate the sushi and sashimi at the Fish as amongst the best. The atmosphere is also particularly pleasing. The service is sometimes poor - one time, they served my starter about 15 minutes before my companion's starter arrived, not having the sense to hold mine back till both were ready. You can't reserve a table unless there are 6 or more in the party. Prices are a little high but I keep going back for the quality of the sushi/sashimi and the atmosphere.

the sushi is typical. i do like their silver cod...melts in your mouth. the lobster-cream cheese puff is good as well, but it's pretty rich. it's a trendy place with pretty contemporary decor. i like their booths, but it gets pretty crowded so it's hard to get. parking can be a hassle. oh, and they do close in between lunch and dinner.

I loved this place so much that I have been there twice in the past week, and I am planning to go back tomorrow. Great atmosphere, and very good service. Edamame came out promptly, and it was very fresh and tasty. Food quality was superb, and we even tried desserts. My two favs are the fatty tuna and fresh water eal (sashimi). A+ for the bar tender as well.

I have been taking friends to The Fish, and we all loved it. I highly recommended it. Excellent place to eat, hang out, and have drinks.

I loved this place so much that I have been there twice in the past week, and I am planning to go back tomorrow. Great atmosphere, and very good service. Pros: Excellent Food, Good Price, Nice Atmosphere

I had a great first experiencing trying out this restaurant. The food was great and so was the atmosphere. It was the best sushi I've had so far in Houston.

Good Sushi. Great date place! Ok for a small group...no more than 4 at a time. We've been several times and keep going back and paying the slight premium and putting up with the careless service. Atmosphere is the fun part and everything else is as good as any Sushi/Sashimi pad in town.

Cons: Price, Service, Selection

The service was awful. My husband and I brought 15 friends to this restaurant. They wouldn't seperate checks AND they added an automatic 20% to the bill. 3 plates were brought out with incorrect food...water was not refilled, and drinks were slow. I was insulted that they thought they deserved an automatic 20% for that type of service. I will never go there again and we live right next store.

Well, I may be a little biased when it comes to some categories about this place, my friend is the owner. That aside though, I'm a vegetarian and usually I'm the one ruining it for people when they want to go eat someplace because they don't have anything for me. Well, what a surprise it was to find out they had vegetarian "sushi". As for atmosphere.... come on now my friends owns the place. I'm home there, but I recommend the place it's laid back.

the food was terrible and overpriced. we sat at the sushi bar and watched as plates of sushi would sit on the counter for a long time before they were served. sushi is something that should taste fresh and it did not. would never go again.

I look for good value, good food, and ambience when dining. I found that Fish had all three. The lunch portions are huge!! The food combinations are interesting but quite tasty and I just love the Asian-inspired decorating. The decorator paid attention to very intricate details. I am not a sushi-eater and was glad to find that they had a wide array of cooked dishes. Two thumbs up!!

I've eaten here many times, and am continually impressed by the fresh array of fish and the excellent preparation. The rolls are all big on fish, and don't fill you up with too much rice. Great sushi and a cool setting that makes you feel like you're not in Houston.

Delectable food and first rate friendly service have got me to become a regular here. Strongly reccommend the crawfish sushi and the Don Roll #2. No idea what happened to Don roll #1!

What? Sushi, you ask? The Fish is the answer. Friendly service coupled with great ambience and food that is out of this world, owners Michael and Danny take you to a new level of uber-greatness with their extraordinary people behind the bars (sushi and regular). The menu also boasts a great selection on non-sushi items for that timid guest you bring along.

Everything about "the Fish" is exceptional. The waitstaff was very friendly, and my food was served promptly. I have to admit, the salmon and Tuna is better than all the Sushi bars in Houston, except maybe Nara. The crow seemed to be young and rich which is why this place is great to people watch. Great atmosphere but not for a family. If you want to impress your date, take them here!

Cons: none!

On 3 different nights my friends and I were charged prices higher than those shown on the menu. The first 2 times we overlooked it as an error, but when the manager treated us very rudely the third time, we decided it must be their way of making a bit of extra money! Although the food is fine, I would rather go someplace that treats customers with respect.

You've got to love a sushi place called simply "The Fish"... The sushi is always fresh and fabulous, while the service sometimes leaves something to be desired. However, the management has definitely made some improvements in this area since opening. Hint: if you don't want to wait on a Friday night, get there early - arriving before 7pm should assure you a table for four.

Blowfish is a great place to people watch and have exceptional sushi. The staff is also very accomodating, as a group of 15+ of us gathered there to celebrate a friend's Bday and our reserved table was held for over 30 minutes while everyone got there (and this on a busy Friday night!!). Everyone was very happy with their selections and raved about the food in general. I would recommend this place to sushi-lovers who don't mind a restaurant crammed with beautiful people AND which also serves great-tasting food.

Food and scene seem to be pretty positive here. Great looking gals and great looking guys. The service certainly needs some tweaking! I've never been to a place that turns away patrons that come in at 1:55 PM when closing at 2:00 for the afternoon. Other than that experience I will say that the place is jamming! Food is exceptional....CAN WE ALL SAY UDON PLEASE. We came there with a child...MISTAKE....no high chairs....oh well, we'll still go back.

When you go to a Sushi restaurant, you expect good quality Fish, when you go to a HOT Sushi restaurant, You expect supperior quality fish, well I am sorry to say that the TORRO(Fatty Tuna) Sashimi was the worst I have ever had, chewy, and not consistant.
