Wynn Las Vegas is better than the last lady thinks

by Scott Z. | top100 Top100 | Rank: 81

The Wynn Las Vegas is class. It's beautiful, newer, and the service is great. Anyone can find a complaint (see below), but the Wynn is among the top three Vegas properties.

Hmm, how bad can things get at this hotel? Let me count the ways:

by Celena E. | insider Insider | Rank: 27,035

Hmm, how bad can things get at this hotel? Let me count the ways:

1) We were invited as casino guests, 3 nights, Fri-Mon this past weekend. My husband is like Super Elite at Silver Legacy, which is how I think they got our name.

Nevertheless, we were dumped at the bottom category room, which if you've been around in this life, you'd totally know that the Wynn's decor is the "trying hard" to look as if it's a Philippe Starck, but has IKEA artwork on the walls instead. Completely disgusting! Who cares if our room had their front and center view of the strip, blah, blah, it SUCKED nevertheless!

2) Same weekend, we also hosted a party for our closest relatives to celebrate our 90 year old aunt's birthday at one of their Fairway Villas. The one that costs over $3K a night and about 2500 sq ft. Except for being their super high roller, like spend $5K at the roll of every roulette wheel, these rooms were their very second best.

It was big, blah, blah. Decor was a bit better, but still transparently "fake", not even tastefully fake, mind you. And the catered food was ok.

All in all, quite uneventful. We all had a lot of fun at the party, mind you, but that's not due to the hotel. That was just good company.

I can write more, but I'm just so bored with this place.

Don't bother going! If you want a hotel at the strip, The Venetian has larger, better rooms all around.

Among Las Vegas' Best Gourmet Restaurants

by CSMobileUser4

Alex ranks with Andres,Picasso, and Fleur de Lys as my favorite gourmet restaurants. I've eaten there twice in two months and both visits were memorable. The room is dramatic and the service is impeccable. The escargot tart and veal with sweetbread ravioli were exceptional. So are the prices, but Alex is well worth it. I recommend Alex to all.

Alex is exceptional, even among Las Vegas'fine restaurants. The room is beautiful and service is low key and correct. All dishes were expertly prepared and attractively presented. The veal with sweetbread ravioli is a standout as is the escargot tart starter. Expensive, but well worth it

Bravo! Outstanding!

by mika68

Having dined at all of Jean George's restaurants in NYC, several of Joel Robuchon in NY and in Paris, Pierre Gagnaire, etc... I have to admit that Alex proudly fits into this magnificent row. The overall experience, from the reception (seating strictly on time) through the service, decor and food quality was truly outstanding. The MUST have item is the risotto appetizer...it is just soooo good!
As far as pricing - it is rather on the expensive side, but it is worth every penny.
Looking forward to repeat this delicious experience next time in Vegas. Bravo Alex!

Pros: Everything

Cons: None

What happened?

by scc135

After reading the reviews and checking out the menu posted by the entrance my friends and I made a reservation for 3 at 9PM. When entering the restaurant, we were wowed by the decor and the attention to detail. Two of us ordered from the prix fixe and another had the tasting menu. Some starters (cauliflower puree, shellfish fritter [i forget which], procuitto on a breadstick, tuna tartare on scallop chip) were good (fritter, tartare) to what the heck (procuitto)? The 1st course from the tasting (yellowtail with osetra) didn't work as flavors didn't flow. They also gave us (who had the prix fixe) a langostine ravioli which was ok. Second course of the tasting (scallop) tasted good but didn't impress. 3rd of tasting (foie gras) tasted like regular liver, not foie gras. Our prix fixe app of cheese agnolotti and lobster were nothing spectacular as the flavors just weren't there. The entrees ranged from mushy and tasteless (stuffed rabbit), to overly salted and mushy (wagyu beef on tasting menu), to average (turbot with what we called a water sauce because it had no taste). The tasting menu pre-dessert (passionfruit cheesecake) was way too tart, and the prix-fixe pre-dessert was an average panna cotta. Actual desserts of a sort of strawberry shortcake was ok, and my lemon "souflee" had a nest of caramel strands that was too dense and felt like glass in my mouth even in small bites, and was mostly ignored. The actual lemon crepe was something I would learn out of culinary school (of which i am attending). For $150 for prix fixe and $200 for a tasting menu, we were sorely disappointed. We left without touching the pettite fours because we were in too much of a hurry to leave. We did talk to the manager and they were kind enough to remove the tasting menu from the bill. Maybe it was because the head chef left at 8PM, but still, a poor experience from a 5 star restaurant.

Pros: Decor, took off tasting menu from bill due to poor food

Cons: Food

For French Cuisine (which is the king of all cuisines) this is the real deal

by chefvoth

The Alex resturant is a true dining experience. Top notch proffesional opperation in every way. The roasted Langoustine with Foie Gras Quenelles is simply the best culinary experience i have ever had. I am a classicly trained chef with over 25 years in the business and i take my hat off to the entire staff of Alex.
Chef Stratta your menu is above excellent

Most Elegant Experience in Vegas

by rosebudmi

My boyfriend arranged this dinner as a prelude to seeing La Reve at The Wynn. From the moment we were seated at our table, I felt like a queen. Instead of having me lay my evening bag on the floor, I was brought a small stool to place it on. From that moment on, I knew this would be a special experience.

We enjoyed champagne and a wonderful meal and outstanding desserts. My boyfriend commented that this was the most expensive meal he's ever paid for, but we had a very memorable experience...both for dinner and afterward at the show.

Although this restaurant is not one I would frequent often, it's definitely my pick in Vegas for an elegant and memorable evening. The service was impeccable and and staff was very gracious.

Pros: Romantic setting and elegant; food was delicious and service impeccable.

Cons: Very expensive, but worth it for very special occasions.

Just like what I've expected to be

by janjanet

Read some reviews on Alex on Citysearch, and decided to make a dinner reservation there for 7 people this past Saturday. It was great! -- but it's quite costly. Our total bill was close to $2000. The service was awesome, didn't enjoy the Foie Gras as much, but the rabbit was good, and the dessert was excellent. Be warn -- it took us 3 1/2 hours to finish our dinner. A friend had to order a double shot expresso during the meal to refrain from falling asleep.

Food great, service needs work.

by chefsanchez

We had reservations, we were seated quickly at the V.I.P. table. We were taken care of by the server's assistants and everything was great. The Rabbit and the Quail were to die for. Dessert was so so. The fish was horrible, it was almost like a fish stick on the plate. The wine list was ok but over priced. We were happy about the food except the fish. Everything else with the food was great. Only one major problem that made the night bad...we had a table of three and as you can imagine at a place like that servers do NOT make mistakes like this; our server tried to charge our table for 4 people, which is a minor $200 more than than 3 people, we were very offended and did not tip the waiter due to his dishonest mistake, so be careful people check the numbers. I would recommend the food, maybe sit at the bar to avoid the servers.

Pros: Chefs know their game meats.

Cons: Service, Fish, EXPENSIVE

Elegance and Ambience

by brokernu2

The Las Vegas Chapter of the Commanderie de Bordeaux enjoyed a group dinner at Alex in December. What an amazing restaurant. They catered to our special group needs, served all courses at the proper temperature, on time, and with flair. The somm, and wait staff were perfect. Chef Alex created and prepared a special multicourse menu specifically to pair to our preferred wines, and each dish was an artistic and culinary triumph. We are coming back! Often! On a scale of 1 to 10, Alex is a 12

Unbelievable Service & Elegant Atmosphere; Food Could Use More Spice

by symantix

Alex was a truly unique dining experience. While I rate the food "just" 8.5, the overall experience was well worth the $600 price tag.

Service was impeccable; perhaps the best I've ever experienced. The servers were genuine and unobtrusive, catering to your every desire. Even the Maitre'D went out of his way to make sure we were satisfied.

The ambiance was very enjoyable, and some of the decor was so unique it actually became a topic of conversation for us.

Food was, as I previously mentioned, just "8.5". Don't get me wrong - the presentation was out of this world. I have never seen food prepared and served this way before. Unfortunately, I tend to prefer the bolder flavors of ethnic food and BBQ. Being a French restaurant, the focus was on butter and delicate ingredients. I believe if you enjoy this sort of traditional french fare you will likely think the food is closer to a 9.5 or even 10.

It's pricey, as there is no way to spend less than $150 per person for the smallest meal, bottled water, tax and tip. Adding in a few cocktails and wine will immediately double that price tag.

Overall: Try it; Alex is a once in a lifetime experience (unless you're the likes of Donald Trump, of course).

Pros: Unbelievable Service, Excellent Ambiance, Beautifully Presented Food

Cons: Too much butter, lack of bold flavors, very high price

Once in a lifetime

by kurlykid

Two things you should do at the Wynn: 1. Win money, and 2. spend it at Alex. That's what I did! and, What a memorable meal. Of course the food was fantastic, but so were all the things surrounding the meal, like the little purse stools, and the silverware and the plates. The service was top-notch too. What a shame a group of young people dressed in jeans came in to spoil the atmosphere. What happened to, "I'm sorry, we have a dress code"? Anyway, the wine pairings were perfection, and the dishes we enjoyed were out of this world. We will never forget our experience at Alex.

Pros: Beautiful atmosphere, Thoughtful menu, Brilliant pairings

Cons: enforce dress code, expensive

THE Best in Vegas' Fine Dining

by wenmlee

"Steve Wynn built this Belle Époque dining room just for French-trained American chef Alessandro Stratta, and even equipped it with a replica of the staircase from the film Hello Dolly." Right when you walk in you're on top of this staircase that overlooks an opulent and warm restaurant with ornately draped curtains and Christiofle silver on the tables. Talk about making a grand entrance! It's all impeccably presented with beautiful dishware and glassware by a professional staff. It's all down to the details at Alex's. I would absolutely recommend the tasting menu with wine pairing. Stratta's cuisine is an amalgam of France, Italy, and the Mediterranean where scents and ingredients are perfectly balanced with the fine wines and worth every cent. Overall, it's a diamond among the fine dining experiences -- food, wine, ambience, service. It has it all.

Pros: Ambience, Overall Quality

Cons: Pricy

Flawless!!!

by jbertrand7

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary 1/27 at Alex. The service was flawless, food was unforgettable, wine pairing with all six courses was second to none. The atmosphere was comfortable and elegant. Each course had an outstanding presentation, I could hardly wait to see what was next. This should be at the top of the list for anyone dining in Las Vegas.

Pros: Delicious Food, Great service, Atmosphere

A+ Alex

by joecip

Alex at the Wynn is a beautiful restaurant. The 3-course menu is $110 per person. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. No attitude here. We had great conversations with our waiters and sommelier who were very warm and friendly. The Roasted Langoustines appetizer!! One issue, I tried to make a reservation a week before and was told they were fully committed. I tried again the day of and was able to get a 9:30, not the 10pm I had requested. Yet when we got there, there were plenty of tables. I hope that is fixed quickly because this fine restaurant should not be turning down reservation requests when there is room to accept. All in all, a fantastic dining experience complete with the little padded stool that is set beside the lady to rest her purse upon, much like Louis XV Restaurant at the Hotel De Paris, Monaco.
