Cubby cuts is a great kids salon. Cubby cuts is where my sister takes her son so I thought I would give their kids haircuts a try. Cubby cuts staff was very patient as I peeked into the cutting area where one kid was having a hard time. I thougt to myself my kid just moves alot so he shouldn't be a problem. To my suprise my child didn't move at all !!
I dont know how they do it but they're good. Number one place to get your kids haircut in my book.

Thanks Cubby Cuts!!!

Cubby Cuts hair stylist cut kids hair every day. At cubby cuts cutting kids hair seems to be all they do there . I heard someone complaining about not being able to request which stylist you want for me I would rather go somewhere that does kids hair every day than go to an inexperieced adult salon that cuts kids hair maybe once a month. So cubby cuts is the salon for my kids. Cubby cuts has a kid freindly atmosphere and that means alot to me after all I go there so my kids can have fun, play and get a haircut. As a parent I try to make the trip to cubby cuts about my kids. I want them to have fun! And honestly if I communicate what I want to the stylist it comes out perfect. Kids hair salons are hard to find and with the economy the way it is you might see less of them. So support your local business.

I've taken my 2.5 yo son a couple of times to Cubby Cuts. The cuts are good to OK depending on which hair stylist my son gets. The prices are very high (+$20 not including a tip) for a 5 min hair cut but I have been willing to pay for the overhead (i.e. kid friendly atmosphere) that my son enjoys. I always make appts. and have found the receptionist's professionalism to be hit or miss depending on who it is. The last straw happened 2.5 wks ago when I made an appt. for my son with a specific hair stylist whose cut I have liked. The receptionist I spoke to over the phone said that he could not guarantee that the hair stylist would be working that day but that he did not think it would be a problem. On top of that, the same receptionist left a message on our answering machine the day before our appt. "confirming our hair appt. with the hair stylist" I asked for. The next day when we got to Cubby Cuts, I noticed that the hair stylist I requested was available and not cutting anyone's hair. We waited a few mins and noted that a walk-in went to her. When I made mention to the receptionist that we had an appt. with her, he said nothing and then disappeared for a few mins. only to return with another stylist, whom I believe is the owner?, (who has cut my son's hair in the past and has done an OK job of it). This stylist said that it was against Cubby Cut's policy to allow customers to choose the stylist and pointed to a sign on the wall that I have never noticed during our previous appts. I then asked why was I allowed to make the appt. with the requesteds stylist in the 1st place and why did I receive the confirmation of our appt. with her the day before our appt. Furthermore, in both cases the policy against making any appt. with a hair stylist was NOT mentioned to me. The owner ignored what I said, stated that he was available to cut my son's hair and that I would have to take anyone I could get. I declined on principle and walked out. I felt that the owner and receptionist's attitudes were unprofessional and not customer service oriented. As a one time show of good faith, I believe that Cubby Cuts should have honored my son's appt. with the hair stylist I made the appt. with (particularly since Cubby Cuts first allowed me to make the appt. and secondly called me the day before to confirm it with the stylist I had requested).

I looked at the reviews on this website before taking my daughter. I wish I had paid more attention to the negative ones. The haircut was terrible and...well, the staff not pleasent. (After I came back I checked out the positive reviews and they seemed to be by "someone" that only wrote one review on this site ever. Only for Cubby Cuts. Hmmmm....could it be the owners? ) Anyway, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Pros: none worth mentioning

Cons: Staff, inferior cuts

Cubby Cuts is where my daughter gets hair cuts, my son loves
cubby cuts as well. Today, she said??my hair is in my eyes I need a cubby cut?.We all took a walk to cubby cuts which is not far from our house. Kids hair cuts that are close is a plus for us. We walk to cubby cuts, which is nice exercise for me and fresh air for my kids. My children love all the toys and are mesmerized at the televisions there. The hair cuts are good and fast. We will continue to get hair cuts at cubby cuts, we love this place.

Cubby Cuts is a great place.
I made an appointment
to come in Saturday morning
the person that answered the
phone said that they are pretty busy on
saturday??s but they did have some
slots available. We put off my sons haircut
for a long time because I just knew he was
going to throw a tantrum. I guess the last
straw was a week ago when we were out
getting ice cream and the server asked
what flavor my daughter would like.
I told the server that she was a he but then
I felt bad because I could tell the server was
embarrassed. It was an honest mistake and
besides that his breakfast, lunch, and dinner
was getting in his hair every time he would
eat. When we walked in Cubby Cuts we were
amazed at all the colors and different distractions
available for the kids to play with while they
were waiting for haircuts.
My son ran strait into the playhouse
soon as we arrived. I figured we would
come early so that he could get
used to the place. Once his turn was
up I don??t think he knew what was
coming as he darted towards the
tractor haircutting chair. The
hairstylist asked me how I would
like his hair cut and I told him
I saw a picture on the wall which said
regular boys haircut (I figured my wife
might not want to go that short plus I didn??t
want to get myself in trouble)
we went just a little bit longer than that.
I thought my son was going to
freak out once the clippers touched
his head but he did very well
surprising, he wont even let us
touch his head let alone
put a comb through it. The main thing I
was concerned with was how they were
going to get the job done while he was
moving because he is extremely fidgety
and can??t stay still longer than ten seconds
even when he is distracted (how can anyone
cut hair or even get a haircut
while moving around????).The Hairstylist
had many of different tricks to make my sons
head move in certain positions he needed it
to be, and needless to say the haircut came
out perfectly my son didn??t cry and my
wife loved it. Luckily the stylist remembered
to save a lock of his hair because there was so
much going on I forgot to. I also got a first
haircut certificate for his baby book (my wife
loved that, unfortunately she couldn??t come
because we have a second one on the way)
We will definitely be back for his second
haircut and for my future daughters
haircut as well. We had a fun time at Cubby Cuts!!!

I went there with my three boys and the only thing I can say is don't go! The owners are rude and unfriendly (on the phone and in person) and the haircuts were uneven.

They are very RUDE to children (and adults) and the cuts are nothing special. The haircuts were uneven--bangs very crooked -- they didn't want to fix.

No reason to get an appointment--it's still first come first serve. So, if someone walks in right in front of your without an appointment you will still have to wait.

Save your money!

WILL NEVER GO BACK.

We first went here about 2 years ago and I believe it was around the time they first opened up.

From my understanding the owner is Michael one of the stylist and his wife.

They were OK but what I loved is how nice he cut my daughter's hair. (althought that was the first time I had her hair cut)

The second time I tried to make an appointment and I couldn't believe how RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL the wife was.

But because we live near and I loved how my daughter's hair was the first time, my husband took my daughter.

The third time and I am stupid for trying again I took my daughter and I asked if it was possible to call and request Michael on days that are not busy or if I can call to see if he was available. The wife was SO BELIGERENT and LOUD-MOUTHED I couldn't believe it. It's fine that it's their policy but her ATTITUDE REALLY NEEDS ADJUSTING. I still don't see the big deal isn't that what we do in salons? I know this is for kid's but I did ask if I can call and see if it was him doing the haircuts today. I mean that's practically begging which I really don't need to.

My mom was with me and just couldn't believe how a business owner would act that way. And she's right it isn't like they have something so specialized we can't get it anywhere. There are a couple of places nearby like Los Altos, Burlingame, etc...

And they raised their price -- it's not worth it.

So, I'm sharing since my daughter has always had an awesome experience at Cubby Cuts off of El Camino Real. Its this great kids hair place that has tvs, video games, and lots of toys for the kids. My daughter even gets a cute little bow at the end of her haircuts and gets to ride a horse while she gets her haircut. She wasn't born with much hair but due to Cubby Cuts' monthly trims, it has finally filled out into a bunch of blonde curls.

Despite all these great things, I have been seeing many high maintenanced parents in this salon giving the staff a hard time about this that and the other which made me realize why there probably isn't very many kids hair salons in this area. Cubby Cuts For Kids is a very popular kids salon in Mountain View as me and my friends all take their kids to this fun place and everyone that I run into has been there as well. I still can't understand why some parents I won't name any names but have seen this with my own eyes feel the need to make everything revolve around them. Cubby Cuts is probably the safest, cleanest kids salon I have been too and I love their haircuts. I sure know I'm not qualified to cut a screaming, wiggling child or deal with their overwhelming moms/dads.

This is solely my opinion, but I think any parents who don't have good experiences may have been a root of their own problem as I have been in there practically every 2 months and have had nothing but great things to say. Sometimes we get what we give.....just something to think about. I will get off my soapbox now. It's just annoying when I see things coming from ignorant sources that know nothing about businesses much less running one. On top of that, making negative remarks about a business as an so called anonymous source just so they can bring their kid back to Cubby Cuts because no one else will deal with their eccentric ways!!! Ok, now I will get off my soapbox now.

Been there once for our little babys haircut. They are the rudest ones I have ever seen. Give them a ring for an appointment. You will realise it when you talk to them.

Pros: works well with kids

Cons: none

The haircuts are only so-so. But my problem with Cubby Cuts is the woman at the front desk -- she just terrible!. She is extremely rude to my preschooler & toddler as well as to me.

I will never return there!! I would never recommend it!

I just took my 2 week old to Cubby Cuts. Yes, I said 2 weeks old!. My son was born needing a haircut!! We brought him to Cubby Cuts and were surprised that they were able to give my son a great baby haircut. His hair was totally hanging in his eyes and embarassingly we were using tiny hair rubber bands to hold his hair away from his face. We had called other salons not kid friendly to see if they would consider doing my son and we got flat no's from many salons not going to mention any names. Anyways, Cubby Cuts was fantastic while I was a terrified mess! The male stylist was confident and did the haircut with ease even while enduring a many, many pictures. We even got a cut little haircut certificate at the end. This is a great place!

We are so glad we found this place for our daughter. She has extremely curly hair and we get overwhelmed by it at times. She has had some awful haircuts in the past due to her immense curls. We decided to try Cubby Cuts and she loved the place and we loved her haircut! The stylists were experienced with really curly hair and the haircut went by in a snap! Cubby Cuts is such a good idea for children with or without curly hair because it is a salon just for kids, so it makes it a lot easier on parents to get their children's haircut. There are toys and movies playing and a adorable play house that my daughter had to be pulled out of because she never wanted to leave! We will back at Cubby Cuts as soon as my daughter's ringlets are back in her eyes.

My 3 year old triplets love Cubby Cuts. They can't wait to get their haircut now becuase of all the fun stuff Cubby Cuts has for the kids to play with while they get their haircut. We used to drive all the way to Burligame and we live in Los Altos but now we have a short drive to Cubby Cuts in Mountain View! The haircuts are fantastic. I don't know how the stylists do it with the kids moving around so much but I get quality haircuts everytime!

I have been to Cubby Cuts a few times. Didn't like how they cut my 2 yr. old daughters hair, but they did "okay" on my 4 yr. old boys hair. And, it was convenient. But, after this past experince I will never go back.

The person at the front desk was "short" with me, I ignored it. But then, my son got a lolipop at the conclusion--he said thank you. She snapped/yelled...don't open that in here!!!! (Why did they give them out to begin with?) Anyway, when I said that she had be snippy, and she shouldn't act like that to small children, she just went crazy. I won't go back there...too many other places like Kinder Cuts in San Jose that are MUCH better!!

I had an experience similiar to someone else that reviewed this place. The person at the front desk was extremely rude.Rudeness to me, I can ignore, but to my four year old was inexcusable. When she overheard me tell the barber that she really shouldn't be so snippy to preschoolers she followed me out the store yelling at me to never come back. And, I won't .

My wife and I am not from this country so we did not know about kids hairsalons until we went to Cubby Cuts recently. We were walking down El Camino and saw kids and thier parents going in out of Cubby Cuts. We decided to go in and ended up getting our daughter's hair trimmed as she really liked the place. She even got a treat when she was finished. We will be going back again soon as our daughter is in a wedding and they do special hair styles for the kids as well.

All I want to know is why wasn't there a Cubby Cuts when I was a kid!!! I mean geesh!! My mom either cut my hair herself or made some barber do it and it was not fun for me at all. I took my 4 year old son to Cubby Cuts and he had a blast let me tell ya! This kids salon is one of a kind with the kid friendly set up and great stylists... you just have to check it out for yourself. Saturdays are pretty busy... so I recommend you may want to try to go in your first time during the week.

I needed to take my 8 month old somewhere to get a haircut and I had no idea of where to go. One of my girlfriends told me about this place and I decided to give it a try. Oh my gosh! My son had the best time. I was not aware that getting a haircut could be so much fun! Cubby Cuts has really made a niche for themselves! My son watched Sesame Street and played w/ some cool toys and the stylist was very calm and professional. They have made a lifetime client! Well at least until he is old enough to go somewhere else! He. He.

Cubby Cuts For Kids is AWESOME!!! I've been to other kid's salons but this one takes the cake!! It is clean and the stylists are fun and patient. I am and will continue to be a long time customer! My daughter was terrified of haircuts but thanks to this Cubby Cuts my daughter is begging us to go! I tell all my friends and family members about Cubby Cuts who have kids who don't like getting their haircut. They have great chairs, movies, and toys for kids of ALL ages.

I have been to Cubby Cuts about a dozen times for my daughter who is 3 years old. In general, I am not overly thrilled with the quality of haircut, my daughter likes the atmosphere. It is a fun, wonderfully entertaining place for a toddler and it has made hair care easy.During all my visits, I have been underwhelmed at the level of customer service. I find Nicole to be very cold, unfriendly and too "business like" for a business that serves young children. Her partner, never seems to smile or attempt to engage the child or parent as he cuts hair. His directions to the children are generally very short, curt and matter of fact. Today, I think I witnessed the "final straw" - there were several customers, myself included who had dropped in for haircuts without an appointment. We were all told it would be 20 minutes or more. After I had been there for 20 minutes, a lady who had been waiting since before I got there, asked how much longer Nicole thought it would be. She asked in a very pleasant and calm voice and it was the first time she had inquired about the time since I had been there. Nicole snapped in a very rude and aggressive tone, telling her she said it would be at least 20 minutes or more. Her retort was so rude and aggressive, the lady put up her hands, kind of curled up and backed away saying "ok, ok, I was just asking....She then grabbed her daughter and left the store. Had I not been 2 minutes away from a much needed haircut and had already invested 30 minutes of waiting, I would have walked as well. I don't expect much - but for 17.00 plus a tip, I expect the minimum; a smile and a hello when I enter, a thanks when I leave and a pleasant attitude everywhere in betweenAnd, after reading the other post I must say this. Although I haven't felt very satisfied with the quality of Cubby Cuts, I continually went back because I wanted to support a young family, with a young daughter starting a new business. Having worked in a retail business before, If I were Nicole, I would have accepted the expired coupon - the four dollars she would have forgone that day, would have been returned in heaps if that woman continued to return with her children for years, as well as the business that would have come from her referrals. I for one have referred several families to Cubby Cuts, I will tell them of my experiences and left them be the judge if they want to continue to patronize them.

I have been going to Cubby Cuts since they opened. I have seen many clients come in and give their bad attitude to these two business owners. Some people have an issue with young people owning their own business and this case is just that. I was there when the coupon exchange occurred.

As with any store a coupon has an expiration date, look at the coupon before you use it. That is the lesson. I would not expect another business to do it, so why them?? It seemed as though Melissa did not understand what an expiration date was and I am sure the business does not miss people that cause scenes.

That review should not stop people for coming and trying the business out for themselves. Everyone will have their own experience and if you do not like it, don't go back. I will go until my kids are able to go to a big salon, until then I will go to a shop that gives my kids the piece of mind that a haircut is not scary.

I took ny 16 month old daughter to cubby cuts for her very first haircut. Haircuts cost $17. Not a big deal, except that she didn't receive much of a cut. I was disappointed. I tried to call later that day to speak with the manager & owner, and I was told "I don't want to hear you complain". When I called back I was told that I was speaking to the owner & that "she didn't care to hear me complain & to not come baak to cubby cuts" I was appalled. My little girl's first cut was ruined. I made a third attempt to call the shop & the phone continued to ring with out anyone picking up. So much for customer service. :(

Pros: Great Atmosphere for children.

Cons: Owners are rude. Not likely to be accomodating in customer service related issues. Could be cleanier.

.

The atmosphere at Cubby Cuts is friendly. There are toys in the waiting area, and videos playing in both the haircut area and in the waiting area. However, when my husband and I walked out that day we felt disappointed and uneasy. We were never greeted when we walked in, even though Nicole was walking around when we arrived. In fact, I don't recall a smile from her during our entire visit. We did have an appointment, so I checked in with her. Her curt reply was, "He's busy right now," and she continued cutting ribbons. As for the haircuts, Michael did listen to us and tried to give us the cuts we wanted. He was very gentle, but didn't smile either. They were both extremely "businesslike." But the cuts on both our boys were disappointing. On the first one, he missed an entire section in the back-he didn't even cut it! We asked him to fix it before we left, which he was happy to do. Our second son ended up with a scrape on the neck from the razor. Not what I expect for $17 a cut. (plus tip)When we went to pay, I gave Nicole a coupon that I received in the mail. She quickly pointed out that it had expired. This was the first haircut we had since we received the coupon, so I was surprised the turn-around time was so fast. I asked if she would honor it anyway, and that's when the trouble started. She said it wouldn't be fair to her other customers who had valid coupons. I asked if she had any of those, and she said no. She couldn't give me a discount from a coupon that "didn't exist." It wasn't so much the answers that were disappointing, after all it was a whopping $4 total in savings from the coupon, rather the attitude that the answer was delivered. She obviously wasn't interested in keeping us as customers. I didn't fight her position, I simply asked if she had one to offer us. The reply was no, so we paid the $34 plus $4 for tip without further incident.I wrote a letter to them stating my disappointment. I said that we would not be returning as customers, and the letter was to let them know why and to give them a chance to improve their customer service.Instead of taking my opinion for just that, one customer's opinion, she felt that she had to write me back a 2-page letter justifying her position, telling me how irresponsible I was for disagreeing with her. She stated over and over again her disapproval at asking her to honor a 2-month old coupon (she mentioned it in every single paragraph). She put me down further by saying it would be "morally wrong" to honor a coupon that I didn't actually have. A little effort in trying to make us feel satisfied could have changed our whole experience.By writing a letter to them, I was hoping to help other families have a better experience at their establishment than we had. Instead, I found out that the owners are self-righteous and judgemental "young adults" (one of the terms she used in her letter, she was referring to herself, implying that I did not have the character to be considered an adult).

PROS: toys, videos
CONS: terrible attitude, unfriendly

Well I wouln't want to pay double the price here, if I can get a similar haircut anywhere else for half the price. But if your kid is hard to control and keeps getting distracted and running around, then this might be the place for you. It is nice with all the different themes to their attention and get the job done without a mess. It is a little expensive though.

This place is 100% kids friendly. I took my one year old to get her first haircut. She good a discount and a nice little certificate with a lock of hair to remember the occasion.

I've taken my son to Cubby Cuts a couple of times. He really enjoyed being there because of the toys & because the Hair cutting chairs are in the shapes of vehicles & other fun things. I was not happy with the haircut because it was quite uneven. But it may have something to do with the fact that my son does not keep still.

PROS: Kids love to go get their haircut there.
CONS: Uneven haircut

I've taken my 3-year-old son to Cubby Cuts several times, although not for the quality of the cuts. They have themed chairs for the kids to sit in -- Wiggles car, tractor, etc. -- and lots of toys and DVDs in the waiting area. He's definitely had better haircuts at cheaper places (Cubby Cuts is $19 for a boy's haircut), but there's a lot less squirming and struggling at Cubby.
