After 3 unsuccessful routine knee surgeries, 2 years and $10,000 in bills, my Golden Retriever is still not able to walk. We took him to VCA all care and Dr. Rooks told us that his knee is fine, it is now his spine that has a problem and that we are to bring him back on Monday for a back surgery. He took 2 Xrays to show us that his knee is fine. The x-rays were taken below the knee, not showing the knee cap at all. Dr. Rooks proceeded to tell us that the dogs knee cap is in place, there is no swelling and that if we don't do the back surgery, we'd have to put our pet down. I took him to another vet, the dog's knee is shot, he has an infection and his back is absolutely fine. I've never heard such horror story before. Please don't take your pet to this crook.

My dachshund recently tweaked his back and paralyzed his back end. I had no idea what had happened. My vet recommended that I immediately take my dog to VCA and my husband and I were hesitant at first because it was all happening so fast and we had no real clue what was happening. We decided to rush our dog to the hospital and from the minute he arrived I was receiving phone calls with updates and some of them from the doctor himself. The urgency and genuine care thoroughly impressed me. I was very nervous about my dog being over three hours from home but the doctors and staff eased my worries. From the time the surgery began to the minute we picked our dog up the doctors were calling me with updates about how my dog was doing. You can't even get this kind of service with human doctors. My dog is at home now recovering from his surgery. Still not walking but he is making some progress now. Wagging his tail and putting some pressure on his back legs. We are doing everything that VCA instructed us to do and it is really helping. I even received a call today from a staff member checking on his condition and to tell me to call whenever at any hour seven days a week. Wow! Although, this wasn't a cheap surgery, it was worth every penny. VCA was also willing to work with us financially to make sure our pet was taken care of to the fullest. I am 100% satisfied and am grateful they were there in this desperate time of need in our family. We will go back if we ever have another emergency. Thanks VCA!

Ratings_icons Vca All Care Animal Referral Center is BAD FOR YOUR PET!

debi l.

WORST PLACE EVER!!!!

Do NOT leave your animals here! If absolutely necessary, have them stabilized, then take them to your regular vet.

They will "DO EVERYTHING BY THE BOOK" and charge you for every nickel and dime they can come up with.

We paid over $4000 to have a leg set (which was way over their initial estimate--with no call-back to authorize extra expense). The surgery was done improperly & took 4 times longer to heal than normal, and in the end broke again in the same place becuase of improper healing. Our regular vet did a better, more involved job (bone graft at this point) for less than $700.

Just check the internet to see their (bad) record and notice how all positive reviews are copied verbatim to these sitesSo I am doing the same!!

Ratings_icons We can recommend them more highly!

Over the past 10 years, my husband and I have had to visit VCA All-Care on a number of occasions. We have been blessed, so far in our lives, with 3 cats and 5 dogs. On a number of occasions emergencies have arisen or a medical problem arises that our family Vet. Dr. Stephen Fynaardt can not address at his facility. We have a number of emergency/referral hospitals to choose from in Los Angeles however we prefer going to Fountain Valley in Orange County and VCA All-Care. Be it an emergency, scheduled surgery, cancer care, an internal medicine issue etc. . . . we find that All-Care can take care of our 'kids'. We personally have worked with Drs Robert Rooks, Michael Moore, Frank 'B', Robert Paddlefored, Clare Gregory, Robert Selcer, and Jeff Yu and would highly recommend any one of them or really any of the staff at All-Care. They have been thru so many issues with our pets and even have been there for us when we have had to make the tough decision when it has come time to let go of a loved one. We can not say enough and hold them in very high regard.

Ratings_icons This Place Is God Sent

Susan M.

This place is absolutely god sent. My Vet referred me to VCA "All Care Animal Referral Hospital" in Fountain Valley for my kitten who wasn't breathing good. Dr. Michael Moore did a quick exam and said he needed to take some x-rays. The x-rays revealed a possible Diaphragmatic Hernia. A ultrasound was done immediately thereafter to confirm his diagnosis. I met with both Dr. Michael Moore and Dr. Robert Paddleford, the Anesthesiologists. Abby's background wasn't clear to any of us as she was a rescue. All we knew was that she incurred some kind of horrible trauma forcing her organs into her little chest. Because of the fact this had happened to her some time ago wasn't good. The morality rate was extremely high for her to even survive surgery. Dr. Robert Paddleford cried with me and told me whatever decision I made would be the right one. Being a responsible person I sought out a second opinion. I received the same diagnoses, however this doctor had only done 10 of these operations in his career, and this surgery was clearly over his head, and Abby wouldn't receive round the clock doctors if something went wrong in the night time. I'm glad to report that she had her surgery on January 24, 2009, at VCA in Fountain Valley by Dr. Clare Gregory and is doing wonderful. They saved her life. I have never met so many wonderful employees. Dr. Ben-Oz, Dr. Page, so many great techs that took care of my Abby. After surgery I was called every morning after Dr. Moore's rounds with a full report on how she was progressing. I was in the CCU both day and night, and found all employees very compassionate and kind to the numerous sick animals. Don't ever believe they only have one tech, it's so NOT true. Thank you so much Dr. Moore, Dr. Paddleford and Dr. Gregory I will never forget what you have done for Abby. If you have a sick animal this is the place to take them. I spent 16 hours at this place the day of Abby's surgery and I saw it all. I spoke to so many people that wouldn't take their animals any other place. A simple thank you seems entirely flat and inadequate for all you have done for us, but thank you again and god bless you.

Ratings_icons A lot of specialists under one roof

I have brought my dog here for two different circumstances and had excellent experiences both times. The Vets are excellent, and my dog was certainly well cared for. If you are in a time crunch however, this is not the place to go. It is very busy, so don't expect to be in and out in record time.

Ratings_icons Atrocious Care at Top Price

First look up lawsuits and Dr. Robert Rooks. Then take it from me, a previous employee, who was appaulled at the lack of experience and empathy in many of the ( esp. graveyard) technicians. I can think of only one time an employee left their animal there over night. Way too many critcal patients per technician, and only overnight one doctor for often 70 or more patients, many of which were critical. I saw too many animals neglected, technicians over worked, and sexually intended passes made by Dr. Rooks himself. Great doctors, but over all care is frightening. It's a money making machine.

I took my dog in and they tried every single thing to save her life. And the bill was way lower than I thought for keeping her overnight and 24 hour service. I thank all of you guys for giving all the effort to save her..... oh by the way I really like the poem/paw print and sympathy card it made me cry more.... best to you..............I will take my dog there again..........If ever i get one....... I highly recommend VCA...............fountain valley.......

Ratings_icons Very Disappointed

Barbara M.

After a full year of struggling with an unsuccessful TPLO surgery and infection in our dog's knee, and paying enormous amounts in fees for continued treatments which did not work, we finally gave up and went to another specialty hospital in L.A. where we thankfully found help. VCA All Care is a factory, our experience with them is that they process too many pets and don't have the high level of competence that we expected, at least not in orthopedics. They clearly did not know how to treat our dog's problem, which we suspect they created in the first place with a breach in sterility. But we can't prove it, so we moved on. We are just thankful we found another vet who could fix the problem. After $20,000 we are finally on the road to recovery.
