Let me do you a favor and explain the prepaid-gas-tank option to you in a way that is MUCH more clear than the way it was explained to me.\n\nYou will be offered this option every time you rent a car with Hertz. The salesperson will explain to you that Hertz's cost per gallon of gas is cheaper than the average cost in the area, and that it is more convenient than filling up on your way back to drop off the car. There will be a mention of a 100-mile threshhold, but they will tell you that if you are going more than 100 miles, you should utilize this option.\n\nWhat they won't state clearly is this: THIS OPTION ONLY MAKES SENSE IF YOU INTEND TO RETURN THE CAR WITH A COMPLETELY EMPTY TANK.\n\nIf you drive more than 100 miles, even if you don't use the entire tank, Hertz will charge you for the ENTIRE tank of gas upon your return. So if you're like me, and drove more than 100 miles over Thanksgiving, but only used half the tank, you will essentially be giving Hertz a half a tank of gas. Along with the exorbitant fees they charge over a holiday weekend to rent a car.\n\nScrew this place, and the useless employees who resign themselves to the ""yeah, that doesn't seem fair"" explanation.
