My friends brought here for lunch on birthday as I love Italian food and this one was really a great treat. The selection of pastas is really nice and I absolutely loved the tortellini dish I ordered. The price was perfect (although I didn't pay :P) and the ambiance was really, really nice. Service was excellent too. I'll definitely come back with my husband for dinner someday.

Pros: Great food, slow downtown so parking is relatively easy to find

Cons: Slow downtown also means a boring one that we are less inclined to drive to

Los Altos is definetly a town off the beaten path. However, this restaurant "Aldo, Los Altos" is worth the short drive from , Los Gatos, Sunnyvale, Mountain View or Palo Alto. I love their small plates idea. Instead of ordering a big plate of one thing you can order a few small plates of a variety of things. Even better if your with a group of friends you can all order a few and share. It is so much fun and their prices are more than reasonable. They also have traditionl Italian fare with a 21'st century flare. I want to come for lunch one day for they have these things on their lunch menu called Piadina and Panzerotti. I'm not sure what they are but I am definetly intrigued. This is the first restaurant that I have been introduced to in a long time that has suprised me with new food choices. Finally something new that I don't have to drive to SF for and suprisingly in Los Altos!!!..

Aldo is the latest restaurant to try the downtown Los Altos venue. This one should be around for awhile - certainly we hope so. Our whole family enjoys eating at this modern Italian restaurant. The rigatoni is our favorite, but the Aldo lasagne also ranks high on our list. There is an extensive menu including many small appetizers. The wine list is reasonably priced and includes many excellent Italian and Californian wines. Alan, one of the owners, is always on hand with a wine or dinner recommendation, story from Italy or other various local color. We love this place.

PROS: Friendly atmosphere, good food
CONS: no reservations

Amazing that an affluent community like Los Altos doesn't have more decent restaurants. That said, Aldo is a passable neighborhood stand-by. Good salads. Linguine with arugula and shrimp is usually fine. The kids' menu used to be a good value, it's been recently revised, so now you get less for more money. Food not always consistent, but the management tries hard and is friendly. Wait staff highly variable, some have been totally clueless, others better. The better ones try, but are often not English speakers. If you have any questions or even minor requests on the menu, be prepared to have communication lost in translation somewhere between you, waiter and kitchen. Nothing serious, but just something to accept if you go there.

PROS: pleasant atmosphere, convenient downtown
CONS: Inconsistent food, variable service

Downtown eatery serves moderately priced, hearty Italian fare in a causal atmosphere. Entrees range from salads to specialty pastas.
