I think they have one of the best burgers in town. It??s a relaxed atmosphere with a patio facing Bagby. The happy hour specials are great way to save money on Mondays and Wednesdays with $1 beers. If your looking for a good deal in Midtown, this is a good place to check out.

Pros: Open Feel

Cons: Parking

This is a great place to hang out with your guys.

The burgers are awesome and relatively cheap (~$7-8 for a combo). It's also usually not too packed until late, so it's easy to chill here for a few hours.

They also have great deals on domestic pitchers...$5 for happy hour times. This is definitely one of the better deals I've found around midtown.

On top of that, they have darts and shuffleboard! I would highly recommend Christian's

Pros: Great burgers, good beer prices

Cons: None

This is one of the best burgers in the city, hot, juicy, paper wrapped grease ball of flavor heaven. Cheap beer by the pitcher at lunch. This place morphs into a bar at night, and I've not been there then, only at lunch. The original location on Washington is a legend (for a reason).

Pros: Flavor packed burgers

Cons: If there is convenient parking, we didn't find it

LOVE the chicken sandwiches! Be ready to have plenty of napkins. Great place for lunch when you want to get away from the office atmosphere. TV and sports all around.

This place is known for burgers ... my husband loves them! They are pretty good but huge - i can never eat but half. Great place for watching a game or going to lunch.

For a quick & small lunch group (there are no large table seatings), it's fine. Good, basic rib-sticking food. Don't come if you're on a diet. Lots of fried foods. It's low-key, quick moving great for a non-intimate lunch.

Dropped by for some burgers with friends. Two people fell ill the next day. Tables are pretty greasy, condiment bottles are greasy too. They need to learn basic hygiene. The burgers are pretty good, but I could do without being sick.

Pros: good burger

Cons: two people got sick

Overall, this place was good, EXCEPT management should really control how many people they allow to be packed in there at one time. Isnt there a fire code to enforce this? With that said, I will be back, but I'll be sure to get the hell out before the place turns into a cattle drive.

Arguably the best burger in town. Eat here often! Make shure to go the Midtown location. The cashier at the Washington location will yell at you .

Great Area, Corner (FYI). Nice looking bar, very clean. Get there early if not it will be a long line, don't be alarmed because the burger looks very small. The patty is very thick, juicy, nice flavor, buns toasted and warm. The fries were ok, good but nothing to talk about. The Onion rings were crispy and good. I would definitely go back especially during happy hour. Blue Moon and a great Burger is always good!

I didn't know you could smoke in bars in Houston?? I guess you can at Christian's Tailgate... Last night a group of us were there to watch a game and eat dinner (the food was not terrible, but not really good either) when a large group of people walked in smoking. The people sitting around us was clearly disturbed - several coughing loudly and one group of ladies shouting in their direction, but no employee said anything - the one waitress working the entire room and the bar-tender both served them and the cigarettes continued. We gave up and left - there are just too many better choices in this town...

I have been to this place a few times now, mostly on weekends, but I have to say last monday was the best experience I have had there. When we got there the place was pretty empty but it got better as the night went along. the drink specials were awesome. and where else can you go that you are able to have a good conversation with the owner. and by the way the place going in next door sounds awesome.

We enjoy visiting Christian's on the weekend to sing karaoke and have some cold beer. It's usually packed so finding a seat is difficult. Standing outside to smoke is slightly more hazardous because of the strong wind that whips around the corner. The bartenders are AWESOME!

This place is fantastic. Excellent food, cheap! The burgers are awesome, and what's with the guy above about the fries? Are you nuts? They are skin on steak fries and they are consistently great. Steve is a great guy, Shannon, Robin, Wes, Marcus, and all the barbacks, they are awesome. This is a down to Earth sports bar that has one of the most relaxing atmosphere's around. They have the friendliest staff, and the best menu. Try the $1 beers on Monday or Wednesday. Try finding that somewhere else. Steve, your place is fantastic, and I can't wait for the new place across the street. You have made yourself a goldmine.

Yes the burgers are fantastic BUT the chicken wings (I get them wet - really good) are excellent also and I don't see much mention of them. They deserve a metion. They have really good wings. I do find that I like the location on Wescott/Washington better than the midtown location but perhaps that is because the crowd in midtown can be too young for me a lot of the time. The older location has a mix of many different people / ages and is more of a small hometown bar feel but the food at both locations is the same and always good. The lady bartender at the old location is fun and feisty!

I went with a mixed group of people to celebrate a going away party for a good friend. One of the members in the group, a black guy, had on a nice fitted a bit around the arm, not sloppy long by any means baseball jersey. He was told that he wouldn't be able to enter as the length of the jersey fell below his crotch. After a few minutes of back and forth about the jersey they eventually let him in. There were white guys inside with shorts and flip-flops but he was given major trouble over a nice babseball jersey at a sports themed tailgate bar!!! Ridiculous!!!! I asked why was there a concern over jerseys in the first place they mentioned that it was an effort to not let in a certain "group" of youths involved in criminal activities in Houston that supposedly wears longer than normal sports jerseys "riiighttt", even if that does exist the guy in the group wasn't even American - unless this supposed "group" has gone international - he was not one of them! And to any event doesn't that count as a sort of racial profiling? I'm okay with having a dress code at places such as clubs, restaurants, etc...but wa hen someone isn't allowed in, or given much grief prior over having on a sports jersey at sports/karaoke bar - it's a bit over the top for me. I'm sure if he was a local white male coming from an Astros game we would have had no issue. I did not stay, so I have no commentary about the food and waitstaff service only the experience of bigotry at the door - will never return!!

I am a loyal patron to Tailgate and have to write how extremely disappointed I was Saturday night April 18, 2009 for game one of the Rockets Playoffs. Living in the area myself and my friends always choose Tailgate when we have a big sports game to watch. Texans games on Sunday, big Astros games and the Rockets. After all the place is called Tailgate and markets itself as a sports bar and grill. So I could not freakin belief that this past Saturday night the manager would not put the audio on for a Rockets playoff game instead firing up a disco ball and playing Lady Ga Ga and Flo Rida. That was a direct sl@p to the face of Houston sports fans! I can understand during the regular season not having the sound on but this is the PLAYOFFS!! Numerous tables and people complained to the manager that they wanted sound and his reply was it is too late and we have to have the DJ on. What a joke, 90% of the people in there that night were there to watch the game! All I can say is that Tailgate lost some loyal patrons that night. I hope Steve Christian reads this because you no longer own a cool layed back sports bar, but just another place trying to be a D bag club.

P.S. No matter what night or how late the playoff game is Pub Fiction, Coach's, Lucky's, BW3 and The Wet Spot will have the game sound on.

Here's the lowdown: The burger? Is an unseasoned patty on a cold stale bun. - Not a criticism, that's just how they do it here. But, at lunchtime, this place is packed. Not that Tgate is that good mind you, but for $6, you can't even get a side dish at most nearby places. Special orders? Just be happy if you get something remotely resembling your order. The fries? Don't bother. The kids at McD's can churn out consistent fries every time. Here? They're more often awful than they are okay. - And at best "okay" is as good as it gets. The service? At lunchtime, expect the bartender to be cranky. That's her thing. You can't really blame her - she has to bartend, barback, and take food orders all at once. I'd be cranky too. There are no waitresses - until night time when there's 2-3 waitresses ignoring half a dozen tables. No, I can't explain that logic either. Take it (or anything else) up with the owner and he'll throw a tantrum. Like most guys who inheret the biz (Original Christian's on Washington is better), what he lacks in competence he makes up for in attitude. At night, expect most of the bartenders there to act as harried servicing a ten-stool bar as the lone Air Traffic Controller at DFW. On Wednesday's, they have $1 beer night. But, there's a price for that - you'll wait 20 minutes to get it. So, order a pitcher -or two. Environment: The aforementioned owner likes to tell you he built this place himself. IF that's true, let's just say he is to a/c and wiring as his cooks are to french fries. Depending upon where you sit, you'll either freeze and be deafend, or sweat and wonder why you wasted money on the juke box - or some comination thereof. In short: You get what you pay for at the Tailgate. Honestly, you can get an equivalent burger elsewhere in midtown with better service. But it's convenient to downtown workers. There's a reason why other midtown bars are doing better than this place - even WITH higher prices. Visit once and you'll know why.

Ive eaten here many time/catfish and chicken tenders were ordered by my party/they were uncooked and the waitress was rude about it . I called the management the next day/ I ask to take to Mr Christian and the person said he was Mr Christian. I told him of the rudeness and uncooked food/ He told me to never come back.

I think we'll all agree that Christian's serves arguably the best burgers in town. But, the place sets itself apart from every other sports bar in the world on Friday and Saturday nights. The bartenders are great, Steve is a champ, karaoke is a blast, and the freaking fun never ends.

This place is absolutely THE best sports bar in Midtown and the burgers alone make it worth the trip if you don't live in the area. Great place for college football on the weekends and Monday Night Football if you don't feel like watching it at home. I imagine that on Super Bowl Sunday this place will be packed but it's where we'll likely be to watching the big game! Would like to eventually try some other stuff on their menu but can't imagine that anything could possibly be better than the burgers! Just typing about it is making me want another...

Add the perfect location in midtown, and you have hte makings of a great sports bar.
