I have eaten at El Jarrito since the day it opened and for good reason. It is the best Mexican food you can get... Anywhere!.. Gil and his staff are very friendly and courteous. Once you eat here, you won't want to go anywhere else!

the food is good, good service and nice people. The playground is a major plus too, as it keeps the kids entertained while you enjoy your meal. plus the kids love the food.

I am usually a pretty easy-going person but today just passed all my limits of easy-going-ness. I have to tell you about what happened to me at El Jarrito Restaurant on Highland Knoll. I was there with my kids having lunch, we were seated in the covered eating area that is next to the outdoor eating area. I had eaten some of my salad when I discovered of an insect in my beans. I was sick to my stomach, and could not finish my lunch. The waited returned, saw the bug and removed the food. The kids went to play for a minute in the sand area.

The waiter returned with my bill and wanted me to pay for the entire lunch amount. I protested, and he brought the manager.
She said that, since the beans were provided free, that I was responsible to pay the bill. I protested again, and she insisted that unless she saw my plate and could verify how much of my lunch I had eaten, she was not going to reduce the bill.
If I had eaten half of the salad, I was going to be charged for half. The waiter had already taken my plate, so there was nothing for her to see. She obviously did not believe me, even though the waiter had seen the bug. I got upset and told her that I wasn?t really happy with any of the food, but that I was going to pay for what my kids ate. She left and returned with the owner.

He approached me, got right up to my face and instantly began to threaten me. He told me that if I did not pay for my bill that he would call the police. He said he wanted me to ?take my kids and get out of here? and that he didn?t want customers like me in his restaurant who are dissatisfied and want a free meal. He blamed me for sitting outside the restaurant and asked ?what do you expect when you sit out here?? He was in my face, getting nastier and nastier until I insisted on telling my side of the story.
Apparently, his manager had told him I was an irate customer who refused to pay for anything. That was completely untrue, but he did not even come to me and ask me. He said ?that?s what I have managers for.? He demanded that I pay for half of the bill and he said he hoped I would never come back. In the end, I just paid half the bill and
left- both boys had pooped in their underwear because they had been trying to tell me they needed to go to the bathroom while
he berated and insulted me.

I have never been treated so disrespectfully by anyone in customer service.
He treated me like I was trying to steal from him. There is nothing else I can do but tell other customers about my truly terrible experience in hopes that you will choose somewhere else to eat in the future. If you would email him and tell him that you have heard from me, I would really
appreciate it. I want him to know that there is a price to pay for
disrespect to someone who comes in to spend their money at his restaurant.
