THIS IS THE WORST GYM EXPERIENCE!!! They facility itself is pretty nice but the people working there have completely ruined it for me!! My husband and I signed up about 5 months ago and were very excited to start working out. We opted to pay more up front (about $350) to get a cheaper monthly payment ($20 each). We were happy for the first few weeks but wanted to kick it up to the next level so we started asking about the trainer programs. We talked to the manager at the Missouri City branch and he only wanted to tell us about the once-a-week session (which was over $500 a month!) and was not interested in talking about any other options. He was rude and pushy so I called the Sugar Land location the next day and they told me about a $90-a-month plan (which the other guy didnt even mention). So, out of frustration and annoyance, we drove 25 miles to workout at the Sugar Land location (even though we live 8 miles away from the Missouri City location). We were really enjoying our training sessions but now we just bought a new home so we want to try to save money. When we originally signed up, the guy made a big deal about how we could freeze our account at any time and reactivate it later. So I called to freeze our accounts and thats when they decided to tell me theres a $10 fee per person PER MONTH to keep the accounts frozen! Uhhh no one mentioned that before. So now, after so much frustration with this company I just want to cut my losses and cancel my account. Apparently thats harder to do that youd think, too. I called the gym and they said I have to come in and do it in person. So I drove all the way out there and the guy who does it wasnt there but the girl made him a note to do it for me in the morning and that Id get a conformation email. So a few days went by and I didnt get any email BUT I DID GET CHARGED FOR THE NEXT MONTHS MEMBERSHIP!! So I went back in (and talked to the same girl from the week before) and said that my account was never canceled. She said she could still see her note to him but didnt know why he hadnt done it yet and that I could request cancelation through the mail. But how I get my $40 back from the membership charge no one knows of course. So, for me this is an ongoing battle but you can save yourself to hassle! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! DO NOT SIGN UP WITH LA FITNESS!! ALL THEY WANT IS YOUR MONEY!!! BELIEVE ME!!! WORKING OUT WITH SOUP CANS IN YOUR LIVING ROOM IS BETTER THAN THIS PALCE!!!

DIARY OF LA FITNESS: I decided to make a running commentary of what I find when I visit the facility in Missouri City. Comments under general were written some months ago. Additional comments will be date specific. I would love to share these comments with upper management but I haven't figured out how to reach corporate headquarters. Apparently they have crafted their website to preclude feedback. Ignorance is bliss I guess.

General:The club in Missouri City is poorly run. They can't keep the water fountains fixed. It takes them a month to hang an out of order sign on a broken fountain and another month to fix it. They keep the thermostat so high that you start sweating before your heart rate is up at all. A cost effective way of solving the problem would be to install ceiling fans over the aerobic machines but that suggestion has been ignored. When a machine breaks they have it fixed fairly fast but they are seldom completely repaired with some functions remainding unrepaired (calorie counters, etc.). Many of the towel dispensers (needed to wipe off the sweaty machines) are either broken or out of towels. The free weight bars are some times rusty (I guess from all the sweating). Most of the aerobic machines are out of date. Even the local YMCA has more up to date equipment (including a tv screen for each machine). Some of the staff members are very nice and others are very unfriendly. Some act like they are doing you a favor answering a question. They play the same music over and over and of course it is geared for kids under 18 even though many middle aged people use the facility. The kids however don't hear it because they all have ipods. And you don't want to be in the club on promotion night when they have a DJ playing music so loud it drives even the 18 year olds out of the club. It has to be loud (they open the front door) so people driving along SH 6 can hear it. And finally if you want to drop a member of the family from membership you have to fill out a form and send it by registered mail (as suggested by the local staff which is one instance when they were very helpful) to national headquarters. You see once you are on the membership hook LA Fitness wants to make it as difficult as possible to get off.

UPDATE 5-14-10 I counted 10 treadmills that were completely out of order yesterday. There are bikes there that have been out of order for over a year and a half. The trash cans were over flowing and a couple of towel dispensers were empty. There is no real management at this club. LA Fitness just wants to get you signed up and then you're on your own.

Sunday May 16, 2010. trash cans over flowing, all towel dispensers in mens locker room empty. Front desk personnel continue to be very friendly and helpful but management lacking.
