New York Pizzeria

Anyone who thinks this place has NY Pizza has LOST THEIR MIND. The sauce is thick and sugary (everyone knows true NY Sauce is thin with tomato chunks.)

The closest thing I found to NY Pizza is Franks Downtown (awesome!) Luigi's in Midtown, and Romano's on West Grey. Save your money and time people. Even though it may not be NY Pizza, in that neighborhood go to Barry's instead.

I ordered a pizza and was told the wait would be 45 minutes. After an hour and fifteen minutes the pizza finally arrived but was cold. At which point I had to heat the pizza up in the oven because I was not about to call and have to wait another hour or more for another cold pizza to be delivered. I called and spoke with someone who may or may not have been Anthony Russo and his only response was "It is Friday night, of course there will be a wait." After finally getting the chance to tell him that the pizza was cold he offered to send a new pizza which at this point was worthless. I then asked for my money back at which point he began to speak over me so that I had to yell just to get my point across. Then to top it off he called me a fu***** as*ho** and hung up on me. Do not patronize any of the locations that this person owns. He has no concept of what it means to take care of a customer and frankly the pizza is terrible. At one point I ate regularly at the Willowbrook location and never had a problem. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!

I visited this place, the pizza is good, but unfortunatey the staff, waiters, owners /manager or whatever they are, were extremely rude! They don't know how to treat and serve people, they have no idea on what they are doing. They are extremely shady and cheap and lied about not having lemons, for your water, they need to be fully supplied. The owners or managers, (or whatever they were) have no kind of manners and are simply unprofessional. They server was a very lazy waitress, she forgot the silverware, she lied of having zero lemons, when there were glasses of water (with lemons)served on other tables. She was lazy and poorly professional. They are very rude!

Cons: Bad management, rude staff --from owners/manager to lazy waitress. RUDE OWNERS!

Thank you Mr. Russo for finally bringing New York style pizza to the memorial area off the Katy Freeway @Blalock. Fuzzy''s Pizza on Antoine, although very good pizza, needed some competition. Their pizza is high priced. We patiently waited for your restaurant to open and finally dined there the first week it was open. We loved the atmosphere and, of course, the pizza. Your new restaurant is warm and inviting just like the one off Chimney Rock @ Westheimer. Love the music you play and the pictures you display of old NYC. It was a very relaxing atmosphere. Keep up the great work and know that you are appreciated. In 1979 we moved here from Boston and we've always prayed that a northerner would move here and open up a great pizza restaurant similar to Boston and NY. It has finally happened and it's conveniently in our neighborhood. Thank you again, Sir.

Me and My Wife went there last night for a quick bite. I am truly amazed that I have not eaten there before....It is simply the best Pizza I have had in Texas. My wife, who is from New Jersey, feels this is the best pizza she has ever eaten. I would not try Star or any other pizzaeria in Houston - as they cannot compare. The rest of the menu looks intersting but I am not sure we will ever try it given the high quality of the pizza.

i was so happy to see new york pizzeria opened for business,after the storm. being home with no power for days, was no fun. a friend of mine told me that new york pizzeria was opened, we got there and waited an hour to place our order, i ordered two large villiage pizza for me and my family the total bill was 40.00 flat, not bad for the works. there register was not working, they were operating on a generator.. with dim lights, when the pizza came to our table , we were so happy ,and it was ,the best tasting pizza, i have ever had in houston...this place is great,, i will be back.

On September 16, 2008, we ordered pizza from NY Pizzeria. at Westheimer and Chimney Rock . They were charging $20 for a $14 pizza. We complained that the prices were higher than normal and Anthony (owner) said tough sh!t and that we should be happy to just have the food. He also said he doesn't care and we should never come back. Anthony was insolent, selfish and rude. Fellow Houstonians, we will never go back there, I urge you to do the same.

Just finished another try at NY Pizzeria in Houston. Have tried several of their locations. The Westheimer location still seems to make okay pizza but my experience today at the Holcombe store couldn't hold a candle to store bought frozen pie. This has been my experience at other NY Pizzeria locations outside of the Westheimer store. Today I tried a slice of meatball and jalapeno. The meatballs had been crushed up into large chunks, sort of like sausage but larger. They had absolutely zero flavor. The jalapenos looked like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for several hours and had a heavy vinegar flavor. The crust was okay. Neither the sauce or cheese had any flavor. Today's grade on a 1-10 scale was a 2. I think NY Pizzeria is more concerned about making money than making good pizza. But when you only have the national brands to compete against, I guess that makes it easier for them to focus on profits over value to the customer. Just because they can make the biggest pie in town doesn't mean they can consistently make good pie. They should change their name to Cardboard Pizza.

If your looking for a great slice of real New York Pizza, this is the place to get it. Originally from Miami, I've been in Houston for seventeen years and Russo's New York Pizzeria is by far the only restaurant I have found where they actually serve authentic New York Pizza. It's delicious!

I went to this location with a girlfriend of mine to chit chat and to catch up. Food was decent but could not get rid of the Owner! Continuosly offered wine on the house for such "Pretty Ladies" I will never go here again I felt smothered. Especially since being a man of his age...he should really try and pick up on women his own age... completely ruined my appetite-YUCK!

My wife and I went to the location on 5727 westhiermer, I had the Greek pizza while my wife had the chicken piccata!!!! we were very dissapointed the pizza has no flavor, I'm sure they just open a can of pizza sauce no flavor or any spices!!! same with the chicken piccata the lemon butter sauce is runny and it has lots of cheap wine in it ,no flavor,the sundried tomato is uncall for it in this dish, it dosn't make it any better, so for the price this is NOT a good place to dine in. I excpect to get my moneys worth when I dine out, so to pay high price and to get bad food this is not good.

This is definately not New York pizza. If this chain opened a franchise in New York, it would be BANKRUPT. The only reason why this place does well is because Houstonians don't know anything about pizza, and what real good food should taste like. The pizza is terrible and expensive. $4.80 for one slice with sausage. Dough is thin so it looks like New York pizza, but it is very tough and chewy. Half of the slice didn't even have any cheese or sauce--very strange! Sausage tasted exactly like frozen sausage toppings from Dominos. You do not get actual italian sausage. You get the sausage nuggets which is exactly what you get from Pizza Hut or any other chain. Any person who knows real pizza knows that sausage on a pizza comes in slices from actual sausage. The slices are very big--and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. They have a pizza on display by the counter, but it doesn't look anything close to what you get. Again, the small amount of cheese and sauce was very odd...as if they have never made pizza before! There were spots of the pizza where there was neither sauce nor cheese, just plain chewy dough. Anyone who thinks this is good does not know anything about NY style pizza or was either bribed to write a good review.

The inside is decorated nicely and the pizza box looks very nice too. You are better off ordering in from Dominos or Pizza Hut. I was extremely disappointed. Don't believe any good review this place gets! This is not even just bad NY style pizza, but just bad pizza in general. Pizza from even Macaroni Grill or frozen pizza made at home is better. It is just plain awful. But the inside of the restaurant looks nice. If you like eating crappy food in comfortable surroundings, this place is for you!

Definately a below par pizzaria. Don't be fooled - the only NY thing here are the prices. Figuired I would give it a try since Romanos was remodeling. Lame pizza - won't be back. Ever.

I was so happy when I saw New York Pizzeria opening not far from my home, being that I am a New Yorker and I have been living in Houston for less than six months. I was truly disappointed that they had the nerve to call that place a New York Pizzeria. After eating there it was an insult to even call that place a New York Pizzeria. It tastes like a bad imitation of New York. I feel if you are going to say that your pizzeria is a New York Pizzeria then at least it should taste like it. Hopefully they can go to New York so they can experience what real pizza tastes like but until then I will never go there again nor recommended it to anyone who really likes pizza.

Overly sweet tomato sauce, caesar salad dressing was bland (was just like eating cream on a salad) and the pizza was way too soggy with the tomatoes they piled on unnecessarily. They were very frugal on the cheese. Atmosphere was nice, service was good, I just wish the food was better! Maybe the owner needs to take more time to train his cooks properly at ALL locations.............

We were very excited when a NY Pizza opened blocks from our house. It's only been opened for 2 weeks and went today for their famous, best in town pizza.

What a huge dissapointment. Not only did we find it super greasy, but you can tell the ingredients are not top quality. We couldn't even taste the cheese and the pepperoni was cut super thick. Unfortunately, I will be telling my friends it is not worth trying. Will never go back!!!

This is the best pizza in houston...and the pasta is great as well. The downtown location has pepper chicken fettuccine which is so good, you'll keep going back for more!

Used Delivery Service. Hour and a half and a rude phone call regarding order on a Sunday evening. Food was cold and so salty it wasn't good for anything but the trash can. Not worth the time, money or frustration. Worst delivery I've had in years.

Stop, don't go any further...some of the best pizza I have ever had in Houston. After living in Manhattan for 10 years-this is the real thing. I used to go to some guys from Queens who also have excellent pizza;....however, I now crave NY Pizzeria (everyday).
Try the eggplant Rollatini or the calamari -both excellent as an appetizer. Ok let me go-gotta order a pizza to go! Thank you Mr. Anthony!!!!

Not sure what to expect from low carb pizza, having tried the frozen kind from the grocery store but I decided to try NY pizzeria. I ordered a medium to go and was surprised to find this was absolutely AMAZING! If you are watching carbs and have been craving pizza, this is the place to go! Their house salad is great and wings go perfect with the whole low carb meal!

The pizza here is to die for. You can either order your pizza by the slice (HUGE mind you) or you can order a pizza served popping hot at your table (they also have delivery or carryout). Fresh toppings, WONDERFUL cheese, and great garlicky sauce. If you are a pasta lover, they have a good variety to tickle your fancy. YUM! I am going again this weekend!

I had a favorite pizza place, and a different favorite Italian joint. NY Pizzeria surprised me by beating them both and becoming a one-stop for anything remotely Italian.

Freshness of the ingredients is what makes the difference here, as well as the care in preparation. The dough here is excellent- calzones are chewy treats, not pizza toppings stuffed into football leather like most others. Bruchetta couldnt be fresher if I made it myself, and pasta is perfectly cooked. Their stock-in-trade pizzas stack up against the best in town, with excellent hand-tossed crust heaped with toppings.

This is a great lunch spot thanks to its location, plenty of parking, and more self-service operation. Full-service in the evening, NY Pizzerias comfortable, relaxed atmosphere is the model of casual Italian. Count on Cavatore for that hot date, but consider this for your regular Italian haunt.
