good sushi, cold beer, and watching a game...a perfect bar to hang out with friends on a game night. Staff is very friendly and great location. I recommend.

I have actually been going to this restaurant since it's opening. The food is not impressive, but the bento boxes are a decent value, however, the service definitely leaves something to be desired, and until today I was willing to put up with it. After my experience today though, I will NEVER be going back...and anyone considering eating here needs to find another sushi restaurant.
Let me explain:
I went with my friend for some chicken teriyaki. When you sit down, they usually bring you edamame (I say usually because we did not get them, I had to ask twice). Also...this is a sports bar (as I am sure you realize now from the description), and on the tv's when we went in...rhythmic gymnastics and golf. WHAT?!? So as we were ordering our drinks I asked them if they could put the Celtics game on. I told the waiter it was on abc, Boston was playing Phoenix. He went to the bar, apparently asking for the channel to be changed. He came back moments later to tell us they didn't get that channel. HUH? ABC??? Basic cable. Ok, fine. We order, we wait for food. A father and son come in. They ask for the tv to be changed to ABC (we hear this because there is almost no one in the restaurant). My friend and I decide if the channel gets changed now, we will know the restaurant is being run by sexist jerks. Guess what...IT IS. The channel was changed within one minute of their request. I asked the waiter why the channel was changed when they asked, but not when we asked, and you know what they told me? "It was not listed on the TV guide, so they did not think it was on." Soooo...I am a liar?? That was all they said. Then they blamed the channel changing on "the people in the back."
Basically, I am planning on doing anything and everything I can to prevent anyone I know from ever going there. In hindsight, I am not sure why I continued to go there till now. I will simply go to one of the other 500 sushi restaurants in Torrance.

Pros: lots of TV's

Cons: SERVICE!

I have never had a bad experience at Kai. My boyfriend and I come here sometimes a few times a week, and we are always seated right away, the orders come quickly and the staff is really friendly and attentive. Our usual order is the Heart Attack appetizer, cold sake, tuna sashimi, tuna roll or california roll and sometimes some sort of special roll. The sashimi is pretty good--I've never had a fishy piece. The rolls are great though--the rice is always perfect, never too sticky or hard, just right. A good many times we've gotten a roll on the house. The chefs are talkative and answer any questions you have if you sit at the bar. For being a sportsbar, the place is pretty chill, not too loud, but has just enough going on that it's interesting. It's a good value, not too expensive and an average dinner costs two of us about $50-$60 with drinks. I'd go every day if I could.

Pros: fast service, good sushi

Cons: closes too early :(

My daughter and I stopped by for an early dinner at 4:30pm before doing our grocery shopping at Costco. I've never been here so we decided to try it. We ordered the usual tuna, salmon and hamachi sashimi since I always thought, for a sushi bar, they have to serve fresh fish all the time. My 12-year old would not touch it because it was fishy (Yes, we smell the fish before we eat it.). We're definitely not coming back. I hope no one gets sick from eating at this place.
