.

I called Massage Place in Walnut Creek, CA to ask about their location and services. The woman who answered the phone was very impatient and did not speak much English. Instead of trying to communicate, she hung up on me! From the brief phonecall and the review I read here, I am very suspicious of this business.

It reminds me of a massage parlor that used to be in the Safeway complex at Ygnacio and Oak Grove in Walnut Creek, where I was given creepy "you're not welcome vibes" as soon as I walked in to inquire about a massage. I wondered then if it was because they prefer male clientele?

When I've gone to get a massage at other places, the staff made me feel comfortable and like they're they're there to pamper me right as I walk in the door...NOT at Massage Place. As I walked in the door I noticed the signs to silence cell phones and take off shoes which I appreciated. I anticipated this respect for the clients to continue after I walked up the stairs to be greeted by the staff. I said I was here for a massage. I was going to pay first and the woman asked if I was going to take care of the tip now or later. I said I would take care of it later since to me, the tip usually depends on the level of service. She then showed me a piece of paper and pointed to the bottom line and explained that they require a $20 minimum tip. I was not comfortable with that at all and decided to go elsewhere.
If they treated me well and gave a good massage I would have no problem giving $20 or more for a tip but to have someone tell me that it is required really turned me off. I told her it should be included in the price then and because the tip is something extra and she just said "We give a professional massage." They should adjust their prices if they want to guarantee a certain amount and leave the amount of tip up to the customer. They may give a professional massage, I don't know, but they do not act professionally. I recommend going for a massage from someone who deserves and appreciates a tip, not demands one.

Pros: open late and on weekends

Cons: Has policy of $20 minimum tip, staff not personable
