There last night April 1, 2010 to celebrate little sister's 26th Birthday. So you understand we spent $850.00. Our party was seated 1 hour 45 minutes after the reservation time. There were 20 in our party, one half had nearly finished before our chef began to prepare our food. This only happened because I went to staff to inquire as to why we were not being served. Our chef came out to a very unhappy group. His response is to rush through the process no tricks or special attention was given. I'm certain that the price is higher for some "extra" attention.

Secondly, We were the last patrons to leave, they began vaccuming around our food, flickering lights. Kristen was VERY rude. Kristen came over to instruct ADULTS that their credit card receipts needed be be signed (very rude) since we had JUST received them. She dropped a pen down and snatched the receipt from one of our guests.

The ONLY standout would be Ivan.

I have gone to their website it does not have a corporate contact to make a formal compliant.

We made it clear that it would be our last visit.

Also, had a party there in 2008 for my daughter's 18th birthday not as problematic, but PLEASE fix the "O" in Kobe. Just because you're in Largo, MD does not mean we are not acutely aware of sub-standard CUSTOMER SERVICE or LACK of IT!!!!!

My son's birthday (age 26) was scheduled for the Kobe Japanese Steak and Seafood House in Largo (Upper Marlboro) Maryland.

After reading the reviews here, I was expecting a horror show, end even went there with a somewhat negative attitude. Well, if you ignore some minor things, you will have a good time.

Pros:
The restaurant is accessibly located with plenty of parking. The restaurant is decorated as a tepanyaki steakhouse with a bar for drinks and a larger sushi bar. There are about 15 habachi grill tables seating 10 people max, which they usually combine groups to achieve. So if you want a table all to yourself, bring 9 or 10. General cleanliness was good; nothing on the floor but carpet, nothing on the table but table, and and of course, place settings. The food was good and there was plenty of it, most of us took some home. Because of some of the other reviews, I paid particular attention to the cross contamination factor. The chef was knowledgeable and competent and prepared the vegetables, rice, and noodles first, the less than well done components like beef and seafood next, and chicken last. Utensils (knives and spatulas) touched the vegetables and noodles and rice only until delivery, then the beef and seafood, and lastly the chicken. I can only report on what we observed, and none of us had any problems after.

Cons:

The food was a little overcooked, probably for food safety more than anything else. Then again, I do not like my food overcooked, even a little, however, the food was eminently edible, my wife and son were satisfied and I even liked it. The food was a little light in the spice category, here again seasoned fine for most, just not for me. This might be a factor of the Japanese style, I am more of a Chinese or Thai aficionado. My wife came from a family were the only condiments is the house were catsup and Mayo. I didn't ask for additional seasoning either in cooking or after, so that is my fault. The particular presentation or "show" by the chef was lukewarm at best, not bad, but I have been to a LOT better, anyone can bounce a utensil or two off of the grill and balance and flip eggs on a spatula if you've been a cook more than a year. Nothing special was presented, very little communication with the audience. The real big negative here is the price, or actually the value. The total bill for four of us was $183 with tax and tip (added in automatically). This is a little (well a lot) high for what we got. Let me detail it for you.

Hibachi Steak
Steak and Chicken
Steak and Shrimp
Sashimi Sampler as a dinner
Birthday add-on (Picture, Drink in special mug, and cheesecake) $13
Three soft drinks
Glass of water

I've had tabs like this or greater before, but the execution was a whole lot better.

We noticed a couple of restaurants already missing from this complex, and this could be the next. There were four Hibachi chefs preforming at six tables between 7:00 and 8:00 pm.

We had reservations for 7:00pm and they didn't want to seat us 'till all four of us were there. I can understand this with this type of operation (tepanyaki style). Everyone arrived about 7:20 and we were seated immediately. Within a minute, our drink orders were taken, and delivered a minute or two later. In another minute or two our dinner orders were taken and the Chef rolled his cart out about 5 minutes later. Somewhere during that process 2 other customers were seated at our table and nothing even skipped a beat. Service was a lot better than I was lead to believe.

The whole experience was one hour fifteen minutes sit down to out the door.

Excellent food and excellent service. What more can I SAY. 5 STARS................. the food is prepared right in front of your face. At most restaurants you can't even see what's behind the kitchen doors......

This place is the epitome of customer service in the UpperMarlboro area. We waited 15 minutes in the lobby even though we had reservations, and then we waited 20 minutes at our table without even being approached. They surely lost a lot of current and future business but i'm sure it won't bother them as they didn't blink an eye when we left. We all went to Chic-Fil-A and the service was OUTSTANDING!

Kobe is such a good restaurant. I personally enjoy it as well as my family, and we regularly visit Kobe for dinner or special occasion. I recommend the Fillet Mignon, which is delicious, or the seafood combo. Yum! Try Kobe, I guarantee it will be good.

On 3 December 2008, we ordered shrimp and chicken with fried rice and drinks at Kobe Japanese restaurant in Largo, MD. We paid at 18:51 with a credit card. At approximately 19:30, we experienced stomach aches, vomiting and diarrhea which are symptoms of food poisoning. We called Kobe restaurant at 301-333-5555 and spoke with Dave Kim who said he could not refund our money. Mr. Kim told us that their meat was fresh so we could not have food poisoning. A cart was used to bring the food to our table to be cooked. The food was separated on platters on the cart. However, platters of raw chicken, seafood, and vegetables were stacked on top of each other with the bottoms of the platters setting on unprotected food. We believe the food or cooking utensils or platters were contaminated which caused our food poisoning. We will not eat at Kobe Japanese Steak House again!

Kobe's has a wonderful atmosphere and great food well worth the price. I'd go everyday if I could be at least one a month I dine there.
I have enjoyed lunch and dinner at this location and it clearly states that a certain number of people must be at the table to be served. If you travel with a small party expect to eat with people that you don't know.

I have visited the Kobe's located in Largo on several occasions. Not for anything special, but to go out with girlfriends or my family. The food and service each time was excellent! I'm not sure why everyone is complaining about the price, if you want something cheap there is a Chick Fila in the adjacent parking lot. For years, we have complained that Prince Georges County doesn't have any nice restaurant's and now that we have few we are complaining about that! Kobe's does draw a versatile dining group, however it's better than being in our late 30's or early 40's hanging in the adjoining restaurant's with booty shorts and bikers! What is that????I'd rather enjoy new people, good food with a steeper price, than a fake jazz spots, with biker boys and chics on bank!!!

Recently I visited Kobe's and found the food and service to be outstanding. I and my co-worker thoroughly enjoyed the steak and lobster and chicken and shrimp entree', along with the perfect timing of drink refill. However, we were somewhat displeased with the length of time it took to have a chef to come to our table. Having to wait for over 30 minutes at a time when the restaurant was virtually empty seemed to be completely unnecessary. After the chef's arrival, we were able to enjoy the entertainment and the very tasty food that was prepared before. We both look forward to returning any bringing along our wives and our friends. Keep up the good work.

Very slow on a week night! Had to request our drinks more than once and then the wrong ones were sent! Veggies served way too far ahead of the main course. Soup was spilled on me by the server and no one offered to assist in the clean up....my clothes, legs and shoes and Prada bag were stained and soaked with the soup....had to ask for something to wipe myself.....Dong (manager) only offered to pay for the dry cleaning and 10% off next visit....my food was served lukewarm TWICE! and I couldn't eat it but was only given an apology and still presented with a bill! Arrived at 7:30p and food was not ready at 8:45pm....called the next day and spoke w/Andy who offered a percentage off of next visit BUT I am not interested in ever returning to poor service....after what we went through....i should have never been charged anything since a night was totally ruined!

Kobe's is excellent! It is expensive, but worthwhile. The chef at your table will entertain everyone, including the kids. They have a great birthday package where you get a photo, desert, and the BD person gets a buddha to drink out of. The food is fresh and tasty, and there is a lot of it.

This Kobe Japanese steak house is located in Largo Maryland. I went here for a company outing. The food was great. It was nice going here on the company?s dime so I?m not aware of the prices I paid for my meal. But all and all it was a great night out. This is a nice place for a small group.

I was really looking forward to visiting this restaurant, but was sorely disappointed w/ my experience. The wait staff generally consists of high schoolers from the surrounding neighborhoods and the service is extremely slow. When I went to sit down, I had to call the staff to move serveral chairs that were very dirty. The restaurant draws a very young crowd & you could end up sharing a table w/ a group of high schoolers. The food was very good, but I would not go back because of the poor service, the atmosphere & for the neighborhood it was relatively expensive. The drinks were not made correctly. Two entrees & 3 drinks rang up to $100, which you don't expect to pay for dinner in Largo.

PROS: Good Food
CONS: Poor Service, Lacks any Ambiance, Slow
