So, I have taken my Lhasa Apso there three times. The first was when she was maybe around 5 months old and the cut was beautiful and she was super happy/excited after the grooming. She was not upset at all. The second time, the cut was ok but they did not listen when we asked them not to cut too much around the face, (her hair was too short around the face),but she seemed fine. Now the third time, which was yesterday(8/12/10) was awful. She had some matting around her face and a little on her body, but nothing that was too awful. We knew she was going to be shaved pretty close but were not ready for what she wound up looking like. We picked her up and she seemed really mad and upset. Her hair was so short and she had red razor burns all over her body. When you shave a dog the razor gets hot and you need to let it cool down every few minutes so they don't get burned. Apparently, they did not do this. She has not been herself and keeps trying to itch her body and her bottom is so red and irritated. We called them today and asked them if anything happened that might have caused her to be upset like this(besides the burns) and of course they said no and then proceeded to put me on hold for ten minutes and never returned. I will never go there again. They are rude and don't care about dogs, only money.

I am seriously amazed by the poor reviews about this place. Yes, they are busy and the place is too small, but this is NYC, not the country. I have taken my yorkie here for two years. When she was too small to go to daycare, they made special arrangements to come to my apt, play with her, change her pad, and feed her. They do a beautiful job each and every time I get her groomed. They are incredibly flexible if I need to work late and they need to drop her off last minute. Most importantly she has never gotten sick from daycare, which many of my friends have faced with their dogs. I feel so much better that there is a place like this for her to go. Would recommend it to any of my friends.

Pros: They love my dog, go above and beyond, she's happy

Cons: Too small

Our little dog was seriously cut by the groomer in two places and needed to be treated by a vet. The groomer didn't even apologize and clearly didn't care about having injured an animal. She also didn't know what to do after the incident and handled the incident in a horribly insensitive, immature and unprofessional matter. I can't believe they are still in business.

Cons: worst groomer - dangerous

I was treated so poorly by the satff I couldn't help but assume that is how they would treat my dog.

I brought my Maltese here, and it was absolutely the worst grooming they've ever gotten. Their nails and the hair between their toes weren't trimmed, their ears were down to the floor, and I swear one of them didn't get a haircut at all - he started matting up within days. I asked for puppy cuts, apparently they have no idea what that means. I found out later a friend of mine had taken her dog there once too and also had a terrible experience. Do NOT take your pets here, it's a waste of your time and money!

I agree with the others that the staff here seemed rude and aloof. I stopped in to check their prices and get information about daycare. My biggest concern is that the play and grooming areas are "staff only." At Camp Canine on 73rd, visitors are welcome to view the play room and facilities. The people at CC seemed much friendlier and more eager for my business, whereas the CR folks had a "take it or leave it" attitude.

I used to like this place for grooming my Golden Retriever. They used to actually listen to what I wanted done for my dog - and for the price, nearly 100 bucks before tip, you'd think they would continue doing so.

Forget about it. My Golden came back to me with a generic "chop job", after I specifically asked the store not to trim too much. You would think a shop that caters to dogs and grooming would know the difference between trimming a long-haired dog and a short hair. I could have done a better job with my electric razor.

Never going to go back. For that money, there are so many better choices in the city.

I had been to the Canine Ranch location on 72nd and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They also provided information on the doggie daycare services offered at that location. So I thought I would visit the location closer to me with my dog on Columbus and was very disappointed.

It seemed that the entire staff did not actually like dogs. There was one lady who was almost friendly and the rest treated us as though we were a bother. The dog walker took three dogs on 'walks' in the time that we were there which did not even come close to 15 minutes. I was considering having my dog taken care of by Canine Ranch but I do not want to be paying for her to have 15 minute walks and then realize she actually gets 2 minute walks by a young man who can't be bothered to treat her well.

I had a friend visit with her dogs so we stopped in and immediately we were accosted by a saleslady who said keep your dogs on a short leash. Not 'please' or anything but she said well we're walking the dogs and I would hate for yours to run out the door. Then we saw one of their dog walkers who was tugging on a small pug and wouldn't let the dog interact with ours and didn't say anything as he forcefully took the dog outside. The merchandise is nothing special, you could find most of their products at Petsmart or Petco and definitely at other better dog boutiques. They don't have a large treat or rawhide selection, or anything else for that matter that is redeeming for their lack of customer service. The lady who snapped at my friend when we walked in continued to watch and hover around us for the rest of our visit, which I can assure wasn't much longer.

I was embarrassed to have taken her to this store and so this morning I sent them a message and was not surprised to see that my email bounced back because their mailbox is full.

Every time i go into Canine Ranch the blonde owner is unfriendly and intimidating. The customer service awful and the products are not well priced. Bath and biscuits opened up in the neighborhood- thank goodness. They are happy to serve and it is a pleasure to go there.

In Response to the last posting maybe you didn't like the grooming style but at least they didn't cut your dogs nose with a scissors like Bath and Biscuits did with my seven month old puppy. My dog needed 3 stitches and at first B&B refused to pay the vet bill. As I found out that is unnaceptable and I soon learned my lesson of who to go to in this city and who not to go to. They only paid 4 days later after saying how we will tell the truth about them. In fact I think Canine Ranch has a pretty good selection and is a very cute boutique pet store and they were very understanding when I went crying to them about my horrifying experience at Bath and Biscuits right across the street from them.

They are very caring and responsponsible.

I like them.

Pros: cute stuff

Cons: one sales person with short hair seems to be in a bad mood all of the time.

My dog received THE WORST POSSIBLE GROOMING ever at this place. They shaved his hair to the bone, leaving fur on his ears and face... the effect was like bobbleheaded rat and extremely unprofessional. I had to take him to another groomer immediately as he looked so awful. I also find the staff here rude and unprofessional.
