I recently had a birthday party for my best friend on Sat Aug 14, 2010; and what a party it was! We got the bronze package which Steve the manager/owner fixed to fit our needs.

He was professional and an awesome person to talk to. There were NO extra charges, NO bullshit, just a night filled with none stop fun.

We had a section by the bar which seated 12 people comfortably and enough room for 18 people to stand, dance, drink, and party at.

Our waitress was so busy tending to many tables besides ours that it was difficult at times to see her as much as we wanted to, but we had a bouncer standing by us the whole night. Whenever I asked him for anything he was willing and quite determined to help me. He was a bouncer and a waiter in one! Awesome guy1 I ended up tipping him at the night for his magnificent work.

We had a blast. The music was great. The DJ played everything. From Reggae to Hip hop, to Pop. Some old school and techno. The night was wonderful. My friends and I had a wonderful time. I would recommend KUSH to anyone who is looking to have a good time. OOh and I forgot to add how great the hookah was!

All in all, you'd honestly be missing out in life if you never went to KUSH!! So go on over!!

I had my birthday there a couple weeks ago and had an amazing time...from what I remember. Booked the event through Blaque list (extremely helpful) and the evening went off without a hitch. All my guests (no limit) were comped since we had bottle service. We were seated in the area right next to the entry, adjacent to the bar. It was a great, semi-private and convenient location.

We got two bronze packages and got two additional hookahs instead of the platters because I figured we were there to dance and drink. I remember we had to get one or two hookah's fixed because they were too harsh, which the staff was really accommodating about.

Can't comment too much on the music because I really don't remember. There was also another bar in the back which I heard was more crowded than the bar we were next to. It never got too packed throughout the night, which is always a plus.

Just as a warning: a 20% gratuity is included no matter how many drinks you get at the bar. So just beware! Otherwise, I had an AMAZING birthday!! Thanks Kush and Blaque list! I would definitely recommend! Their buy 1 get 1 free bottle special on Thurs and Fridays, I believe, is also a GREAT deal. Can't get better than this in NYC. Also, my friend was actually able to find parking right around the corner, so it's not impossible in the LES to park.

Pros: Great staff, Beautiful decor, Reasonably priced drinks

.

So I had my birthday party there yesterday and I have to say that I was impressed I was greeeted with a warm "Happy Birthday Sir" from whom I believe to be the floor manager, a nice guy by the name of Steve. It has become difficult to find a great place in this city where a guy can just sit down enjoy some drinks and have a conversation with his friends in a great environment with amazing music great ambience and comfortable seating where not everyone is squished together and the staff as well as the patrons are all uppity and obnoxious, but not anymore. Kush met all my expectations of a great place. I was initially a little skeptical because of the negative comments but this place is definitely not at all what those comments stated. The staff was always coming around to make sure that we were comfortable and having fun the attention was amazing, the drinks were great so was the price and the hookahs tasted great and lasted a long time. I left this place feeling like 20% gratuity was not enough. If you wanna have a great time with your friends call Tim to make a reservation and take your party down to Kush you definitely will have a great time. I look forward to the next time I go there. Don't be thwarted off by the negative comments and come see for yourself.

Cons: none that pertain to kush itself

I had such a great time at Kush. I threw a birthday gathering for my boyfriend and he had a great time. The lounge is gorgeous with beautiful decor and intimate lighting. Very classy. They also have a two for 1 bottle deal that is an absolute steal especially for this extremely trendy neighborhood. The table that I reserved had the guest of honor's name on it and it was already set up for my friends and I. The hookahs that we ordered lasted for at least an hour and the flavors were great. I also had a pomegranate martini which was delicious. The staff was extremely personable and ensured that we had a great time. I personally booked with GM Tim and felt well taken care of.

I love visiting Kush when I'm in the mood for great atmosphere and a great food and drink list, so I decided to have my birthday party there with a bunch of my friends last Saturday. I reserved a table with bottle service and the whole process of booking the party over the phone was really easy as the management was very accommodating and made me feel like they really wanted me to have a great time. When we arrived, coat check was a little slow, but the host was very gracious, showing us to our table and making sure the waitress set us up with everything we needed right away. The DJ was playing fun, danceable music and the host and GM kept checking up on us to make sure we were having a good time. It was one of the best birthdays I've had and I thank the staff of Kush for making my night!

I loved the Kush Lounge. I had a birthday party there and I couldn't have asked for more. The atmosphere was great, the crowed was classy and sophisticated and the decor was to die for. I would definitely do it all over again if I could. My 25th birthday will definitely be taking place at Kush next year again!

Kush is probably the best lounge I've been to in a while that plays some great music and our friends all had a great time. We hit up Kush on a Saturday night, women are free all night, men are free on the guest list until midnight. The dance floor was packed and it spilled over in to the bar area. But, the focus of this little diddy is the music that they played. We're not talking about just hip hop that isn't on the radio but the DJ played some jams. I think the DJ sometimes makes a place and the DJ on 1/16 was amazing!

I've been coming to Kush for several months now, introduced by a friend, and can't seem to stay away.. it truly is a rare find in NYC..

the ambiance is really great, LOVE the decor and small artistic touches that give the whole place a mediterranean vibe..

The bartenders are attentive and consistent, amazing Kush martini, my favorite ;) One of the bartenders even created a drink just for my sister right in front of us...delicious!

The DJ is excellent!..starts the night out with music you can have conversations over, moves to more upbeat/hip hop/dance music, and progresses to house/trance towards the end of the night..something for everyone...there's places to sit at the bar and around the main floor, but the center becomes the dance floor after about 1 am..

There is a good selection of finger food..i particularly love the feta cigars, excellent presentation with a lovely red kush ribbon and tastes delicious...

I love coming here...can't wait for the New Year's Eve party!

Met friends for a drink here, Giant Ripoff!!!!!!!!!!! The Bartender was some 50 year old straight out of the movie "Deliverance" acting like he was a Sushi Chef from Nobu. And this midget manager who trolls the whole place like a cop. It's sad . Just trying to get in was a joke with all these club security monsters. What lounge has Goons at the door???????? Read the reviews ,I did and they all make sense. They OBVIOUSLY write there own reviews! It's a big city, stay far away from here.

My group of girls went to Kush last Saturday night and all i can say is...."wow". We had the best time at this hidden gem. The manager was very professional (and cute) took special care of us and made sure we had a good time. The bartender made us these creative cocktails all night long...I especially loved the Tarantula...an avocado martini that was crazy but delicious.

We will make Kush a regular part of our circuit.

I partied at KUSH on Saturday and the place has a really great vibe. Very clean and the DJ Shan is awesome. We booked the Morroccan Room in the back and the GM, Tim was a pleasure to work with. Very professional and attentive to all the details including a special cake for a birthday and bottle of champagne on ice waiting when we arrived. The bartender CB makes some incredibly creative drinks and kept them flowing all night. Overall, there is nothing pretentious about this place which we loved and the staff actually made you feel welcome...a novelty for a New York club/lounge. Will be booking a lot of parties here in the future.

I seriously question some of the recent poor reviews on here as this place was a great find and service unlike I've encountered anywhere else in the city.

Well I spoke to the GM about a little get together with friends, he suggested that we get a table because saturdays are a big nite. I told him that we didn't like crowds. He assured me that they were a small boutique lounge. Well we got to the place and were confronted at the door by various men, seemed a bit confusing as to who was seating people. Once we got in we sat at a little table(Boutique) we asked our waitress to move. That took forever, didn't seem there was a host on the floor. But what is worse was the crowd. a hodge podge of people. I am no model but me and my friends dress well and the crowd was weird. Seems everyone gets into this Boutique lounge, Wasn't even sure they had a doorman. We left and went to Katra, we probably should have went there to begin with.

I heard about Kush from a friend and it totally delivered and was worth the trip downtown. It's a very hip scene and the DJ did a good job reading the vibe of the crowd. The door staff did not have the usual attitude and we found everybody pretty polite- which I guess is the positive side of a bad economy. I am definitely bringing all of my out of town, couch crashing visitors here as this sort of place is what NY is all about.

Well from the start it was difficult, communicating with the GM about getting in and having to reserve a table, we did anyway but we were crammed into a small table. Service was poor but it was Halloween. The place was one big mess.It wasn't as advertised to me over the phone. The thing that creeped me out the most was this guy who was starring at me all nite from the D.J booth. Then everytime I moved it seemed like he was behind me. So I brought it to the attention of my waitress who said " Oh that's my boss, he runs the place" talk about weird. I wont be going back there.

Well I was anticipating a great time for my birthday party, especially after having to agree to all of the guidelines set forth by the manager Tim. Geez you would think I was bookng my wedding. He assured me that he does this all the time. however I have had parties before and He was a little much. Well everyone got in but the place was packed like sardines, you stand a better chance at getting coffee at Grand Central at 7am then this bar. The bar was impossible to reach .some our friends left our table because it was to small. Then there was a problem with the cake. The staff was nice though.

Recently hosted a corporate event at Kush lounge. My clients and VP team were extremely happy. The food was amazing but the service and ease of creating the event was astonishing. Kush will definitely see more of me via for business and personal time! Grade A++ for the management

I had a birthday party here for a group of 10. They were so nice here, it was definitely a breath of fresh air. There wasn't any pushy, ego driven, club BS to deal with. Everyone got in smoothly and the manager was surprisingly attentive and nice. Awesome DJ and relatively good food (for a bar). Would recommend.

So some friends of mind one nite happened to wander into this establishment, I wasn't able to pass coat check because some guy refused me entry unless I checked my bag which contained my work laptop. When I refused to pay the $3 dollars he told me t his name was Tim and that he was the GM. I said that's great and proceeded to leave. I tapped him on the shoulder and he then basically flipped and punched me in the chest and said "do you want to take it down the street? " Now this is a first, usually this happens with door guys. But the GM? Obviously this guy has issues.

I planned my best friend's bachelorette party here last Saturday for a group of 15 girls and we had an awesome time. We didn't have a problem getting in or anyone else that came later who joined our party. Our group had a great time dancing the night away and enjoy our corner table that we reserved in advance - the required bottle service is a con, however, there aren't many lounges in NYC that you can reserve a table without a minimum. The management and staff at Kush were friendly and ensured our group had fun. I would go back there again for a celebration.

I had my 25th bday party at kush on july 18th and we had a great time. I had about 30-40 people there in and out and we were seated in the front near the entrance. The music was great, we danced a lot, and smoked some hookah and drank a lot. The security at the door were really nice and not pretentious at all. Tim (manager) was on point when he described the place. Everything he said was exactly how it was. Surprising to find honest good people in that business who aren't trying to take advantage of you. They actually make money on honesty and great service. I didn't try the food, but will go back sometime for food. It was interesting to see how my party was dancing and drinking and other parties in the same venue were sitting and smoking hookah and drinking and they weren't bothering us and we weren't bothering them. Really a great place to go!!

Hosted a bachelorette party for 15 girls on 6/20 and from the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we received the royal treatment. Not only was the staff friendly but, super accomodating also. No cover charge, no hassle at the door. We were greeted with a warm welcome, escorted to our table (even had a custom table sign with the name of our party) and waited on hand and foot. Bottles were priced cheaper than elsewhere too. The DJ was slammin and played the best hip/hop and r&b and later more pop and dancey stuff. We danced all night and had an amazing time. Highly recommend for groups or singles and would definitely go back!

My friend and I had our 25th birthday party at Kush. After meeting with Tim (the manager), we both felt at ease about the party. He could not have been more helpful in setting up the birthday. It was exactly what we were looking for. They roped off an entire portion of the bar at the back for our party. We arrived a little after 10pm, and everything was set up. We provided them with a guest list and none of our friends had any trouble at the door. The music was AMAZING. Our friends and I danced all night and had a GREAT time. So THANK YOU to Tim, Robin, Jessica and everyone at Kush who so nice and made our birthdays special. We had a brilliant time as did our friends. PS: The bouncers at the door wished me 'happy birthday' every time I walked in and out and the B52's are a must!

My friend and I had our 25th birthday party at Kush. After meeting with Tim (the manager), we both felt at ease about the party. He could not have been more helpful in setting up the birthday. Pros: Super nice staff, AMAZING music, and great drinks

Cons: Sign isn't visible from the street

Recently had a small birthday party for my girl there, and the management and staff were very accomodating and courteous, especially since it was a last minute thing. Its been a while since I had been there but it is one of the very few hookah lounges that I have been too that is both clean, comfortable and hopping. Thanks again Tim!

Pros: Good Hookahs

Cons: Expensive Hookahs

I recently just attended an event here and I have to say this place really impressed me. The staff at Kush were extremely nice and went out of their way to make sure everyone was having a great time. The drinks were inexpensive and the Sangria was awesome!! I recommend it to anyone who visits. The DJ kept the crowd going into the wee hours of the night. I will definitely be back for happy hour and to book future events here.

I just went to the Girls in Technology event here the past Wednesday night and it was great! the staff was really friendly and at one point the batteries ran out on the speaker to which the manager was promptly by her side replacing them (pretty impressive). The drink specials were a good price and the special martini they had was delish! i would definitely recommend this venue to anyone looking to have a great hassle free time. I did learn one thing though that the Kush is actually pronounced Koosh...

I had to organize a party for 100 people with a day's notice. The management was willing to go the extra mile to make the party a success. We needed to display something from a computer onto a projector and they really went out of their way setting everything up. They also worked with me to make sure I could get enough food and beverage for everyone but stay in my budget. This would be a perfect place for an intimate film screening as they have the appropriate equipment. Would highly recommend booking the back bar and/or the sunken lounge for a party.

"I held my birthday party there on Friday night. They could not have been more helpful in setting up the birthday. It was exactly what I was looking for. They roped off an entire portion of the bar for our party, it was perfectly set up when I arrived. There was absolutely no problem getting close to 75 people in that evening. Drinks were fairly priced for NYC, and the music was good. It was a great atmosphere for dancing, or just hanging out. I would definitely host a party there again."

Pros: Loungey Vibe without the Pretentious People

I've been going to Kush on and off for years now. I love the decor, ambiance and music. BUT the Hookahs just aren't worth it. They're charging $30 for one hookah that barely lasted 30 minutes. The staff won't replace the charcoal or adjust the hookah when the tobacco starts to burn.

I've been to Kush three times and after this past Saturday I have to say I think it's the best bar on the LES. It just doesn't disappoint. The music's great, the scene is super cool, and it's not expensive for what they're offering in terms of scene, etc. I took friends there who were visiting from Los Angeles and they were blown away.

I planned my husband's birthday party for the second year in a row in Kush Lounge. We had an amazing time. Our friends were very impressed. The staff were friendly and very helpful. They accommodated us in any way possible.
I haven't seen anything like this lounge. They are truly one of a kind.

I went here last night for my friend's birthday and we had a great time overall. They reserved 2 tables for us even though we didn't want bottle service (which nowhere else would do), and our waitress was wonderful, though a bit slow (probably understaffed). Drinks were really well-mixed and specialty cocktails were great - but way too expensive for a group of college kids. The DJ played really fun music and listened to requests. They charged guys $10 after midnight even though they were on our list (which they didn't tell us). The place is absolutely beautiful inside and lots of fun.

I hadn't been there for some time since it moved, but wow! when I walked in it seemed like a den in morocco with the aged walls curving to a central middle room.
The drinks were made with fresh ingredients and the surprise came when the food arrived-it was fantastic, especially the spicy chicken sliders. The happy hour is good too I found by accident. A trip to Morocco without the plane!

I'm a frequent bar goer on the lower east side and have loved Kush since it first opened. But starting a year or so ago the place started to lose it for me. However, I'm happy to say that the Kush I love and remember IS BACK! I wonder if they're under new management or something.

What I love about Kush is it's great vibe. It's beautiful and puts me in a good mood right away. Personally I skew towards an ethnically diverse, sometimes artsy sort of crowd (my worst nightmare is a sports bar full of loud investment bankers). Kush fits the bill perfectly. Staff is better now too. Highly recommended.

Vastly improved. I used to go to Kush every couple weeks a few years ago and then the vibe seemed to shift so I stayed away. Had I listed to some recent reviews I would not have come back. But a friend had a party there and the place is really getting back to its roots and what does best: provide a unique place to have relaxed drink or party late into the night. Glad it's back!

Cheers to freedom of speech and the internet... I went to Kush on Saturday night and some short guy at the door asked me to leave because I refused to check my coat. Apparently he had something to prove and needed a power trip. If I were anyone thinking about going to Kush, I would think twice... If you are interested in going to a pretentious, obnoxious lounge where the guy at the door tells you that "This is not a free country, it is a private establishment, and you can have a good night," then Kush is the place for you! Otherwise, I might recommend trying a different spot.

My girlfriend and I made an early reservation on a Saturday evening at Kush Lounge expecting just to have a bite to eat and some hookah. We decided to stay as the place was changing the vibe from a laid-back lounge into a club like atmosphere. We ended up ordering a bottle of champagne and danced the night away. Great music and beautiful crowd!

I decided to try out Kush but I totally regret it. I reserved a table for 8 people prior to going there yet, we were squeezed into the corner table and barely had room to move. I ordered the chicken slider and kafta slider both were horrible and really miniature. The chicken was better than the beef/lamb however, both were really bland and unflavorful. I also ordered 2 Ama margarita which supposedly had patron in it but I highly doubt it. I'm a cheap date so after the 2nd margarita I should have felt something. I get buzzed from a chipotle margarita for christ sake. We also had some issues with the hookah but they insisted that it was ok. Thank god my friend who is an avid smoker was there and she fixed it! Our waitress was ok, a little on the ditzy side but she was attentive. The manager at this place is also an assh***, our table was trying to have fun and liven up this really dull establishment but I guess that must be against their policy. Overall, if you're looking for a dull night with overpriced drinks and bad hookahs sure go there.

I just had my boyfriends birthday party there last night. I had made a reservation at the last minute because my prior reservation had cancelled for restaurant renovations. My girlfriend suggested Kush because it had a similar type of atmosphere-inexpensive menu, beautiful setting, dj, hookah, and belly dancing. The person whom I spoke on the phone with was so polite and accommodating- so I was very excited and anticipated everything to be perfect for this event. To my surprise upon my arrival- my 15 person party was put in the small corner table by the entrance and when I walked through the door I was embarrassed. Finally, after some talking with the hostess explaining my reservation- we were sat inside and told that soon we would have to order bottle service- which was told to me but it was supposed to be at 11 not 9:30. The belly dancer (that I was willing to pay the 75-100 dancing fee for) I was told I could make arrangements with
was not to arrive until 1:00 a.m.- so that ended up being out of the question. When sat, all of my guests had to go to the bar to get their drinks. I completely understand when it is busy-but c'mon we had a reservation and had been there for quite awhile. The music was really too loud for dinner so the ambiant atmophere is NOT! On the upside was the decor, the staff was polite and and nice, and the tapas were fantastic! At the end of it all-everybody enjoyed it for being a different type of place to have a small dinner in. Though it is not worth the 500 that we spent there (not including the drinks) Overall- nice for hookah and a night out on the town-but not for a dinner or reservation.

Kush used to be one my favorite places a couple of years back when I had moved to nyc - simply cause it was always non-pretentious and easy to get into.

Maybe the management changed some time in the last 2 years, but now its almost impossible to get in unless you have a table. Moreover the staff is amazingly rude (specially the woman, way past her sell-by date, standing at the door).

You can find better hukkahs, cheaper drinks and defi better crowd at other places in the city where you'll feel a lot more welcomed...

Terrible Experience. Went for my sis' bday. reserved the table near the dance floor. after spending hundreds of dollars on bottles AND drinks and food, we were told we HAD to share the table with other customers. i had an issue with it, but my sister didn't mind. then the waitress/hostess was not satisfied that we were moving quickly enough, so she went and got two bouncers to help her - against a table of 10 petite tipsy girls! i tried speaking with a manager - he shrugged and said, "there are two sides to every story". yeah....lesson learned - don't spend money or waste your time in this place!

i'm giving it two stars for decor and the really nice bartenders. but customer service is a joke here.

Do not go to Kush. I went there last night and the people at the front door are so nasty. They change the price of the cover depending upon who is in line. At one point.. they wouldnt let my friends in who were waiting for us outside. The people at the door told them that they cant come in unless they buy a bottle... its nonsense..It is really disgusting. When you go in, there is no room to dance or chill... it is really a fancy hole in the wall and the drinks are overpriced. For the 20 dollar cover that I had to pay and the 18 or 19 dollar drinks... I could have went to a nicer place on the upper east side... not kush on chrystie street... trust me.. do not go there... its horrible... unless you book a table in advance and want to spend over a hundred dollars for a night out and smelling like hookha smoke when u leave.. do not go!!!

I first went to Kush last fall and was loving how chill of a lounge it was. The staff was mellow and not money hungry (Trying to rob you and over charge) and the over all feel was the same chillness. I went several times with my group of friends. My friends and I were loving it. Not too bad of prices, mellow, chill, etc... All the things we look for in a lounge. But I have been going the past few weeks, and I hate to say, but wow. Times have changed. Staff looked miserable, prices went up ($14 for a small shot of Patron???) as if it is some new hot lounge, and the over all feel of staff and even the manager (Who we spoke to briefly) was crappy. The vibe is down. Music no good. And they do not have the normal door people who have always taken care of us. I felt as if this place has fallen off the wagon. Just another club with no style or dignity. I would recommend a different place if you are looking for the NYC experience. This place now looks like the average ?let everyone in? type of place. What happened to Kush? Why do NYC clubs change so often to cheesy places? WHERE DO WE GO NEXT?

Horrible customer service! I went there for my birthday party on Saturday. When we arrived by 9.30 pm we were informed by the rude and stuck up girl by the front door that she will not let any of my guests because we didn?t have a table reservation. It is a bar- lounge and we wanted to go there for drinks and entertainment not for food! Then she told me that she can let in only my girlfriends who are pretty. What a bul.. sh? I have never heard such a thing in 10 years I have been living in Manhattan.
It is no space inside and it gets super crowed. I do not recommend this place if you don?t make a reservation. Also I am very disappointed with such a bad front door attitude.

I was there this weekend with a group of friends ( we had a private party set)...some of my friends came late and were told we left because it was overcrowded (WE WERE INSIDE!!!) We came out and tried to get them in and the woman at the door told us that the place was too crowded, we can't fit your whole party. I left a little while later and while i was waiting for a cab, I saw at least a dozen , if not more being let in the place...but IT WAS OVERCROWDED...I WAS IN THERE!! Dishonest is not the way to run a business !!

This place is a complete rip-off. This was supposed to be a happy hour and they were overcharging for drinks. When asked about it, the manager made excuses that the computer was supposed to have changed over automatically but it didn't, but then they continued to overcharge! Bartenders were rude! Skip this place and go elsewhere.
