I had a few facials here and I felt they really helped my skin. My skin feels more clean and has cleared up considerably. I would definitely recommend this place!

I had called middle afternoon to refer my friends and family to hopefully get a group discount. The woman who answered was VERY rude and hung up the phone on me.. I will never contact them or refer anyone to them again.

Today I used two out of the three vouchers I purchased online, for the Shangri-La Day Spa. I will begin with my experience of the unprofessional conduct in customer service I received from this location when I wanted to book the two appointments for myself and my boyfriend.
When I called to book my appointment I was regarded kindly until I mentioned that I had purchased the vouchers and wanted to book two of the three appointments in one day. I was told they could only accommodate taking us on days when their REAL customers did not need the spot, I was taken back by this amazingly rude remark, but continued to book with them because I had already purchased the vouchers. Throughout this conversation she mentioned her REAL customers needing accommodations more than I did, but I dismissed the remarks and hoped for a better experience on my arrival.
We arrived at the spa in the morning 15 mins ahead of time and before heading inside I placed a courtesy call to alert the front desk about my early arrival, and to make sure it was OK to enter early. I was rudely asked not to come in to the location until my allotted time because they had REAL customers to tend to first (that word again was thrown around). At this point I already feel belittled by the REAL customer remark, but felt powerless having already spend money on these vouchers.
On our arrival (I will not go in to the aesthetics of the place) we were confronted by an unprofessional Asian lady who bombarded me as I walked through the door and asked me for my name and the vouchers as well as how much I purchased them for . I think it was very unprofessional for her to ask me that question when I presented her with the voucher information, and explained over the phone and in person it would be a 30minute session for each.
This does not even begin to explain what happened after this! I am beyond appalled with this place! The ??massage therapist?, and I use this phrase LOSELY! RUBBED my back! I never felt her fingers on my back, and when I mentioned to her that I procured a 30 minute massage and I did not expect to get rubbed for 30 minutes, her response was ??There is nothing we can offer you for 30minutes?. WHY did they offer this as a voucher possibility if this was not going to be HONORED!
My boyfriends massage was a different story, he came out with nail marks on his back! I am disgusted!!! Not only did we not get a massage and walked out with more pain on our backs then what we started with, but throughout the massage we were consistently reminded that gratuity was not included. My massage therapist actually waited at the door and asked again, I gave a generous amount because I felt obligated and a little pressured by her demeanor when I tried to walk by, regardless of the horrible service we both received.
On my way out of the room I asked to use the bathroom, the Asian lady stopped me and said I could not go until I emailed her the vouchers. I asked my boyfriends masseuse for the email address, because the older lady walked away as I access the internet on my phone. The masseuse proceeded to hand me the business card without speaking, and I pointed out the email was not on it. She then rolled her eyes and said its Shangri-La Day spa@gmail. I forwarded the information twice, but it never came up on their system. When the Asian lady came back, she motioned for me to move from the spot I was in frustrated and said I wasn??t sending it. I asked for the email again and this time the lady gave it to me as Shangri-La Day spanyc@gmail, I mentioned that the NYC was not given to me prior and she says AND I QUOTE! ??PAY ATTENTION YOU DON??T LISTEN!? (I emailed them the vouchers and walked out professionally, but I am revolted!!!!) I will not wish this on anyone!

For anyone who is going for a facial using vouchers BEWARE! The owner does not give you a regular facial because as she told me: you are using a voucher. So instead of a spa facial, i received a facial so simple it was equivalent to the free mini facial you get at the cosmetic counters in Macy's!!!! All I received was a simple wash, extraction and a thin layer of mask. And I was told to tip on the full amount of $85!!!! I will never go back.

Cons: bad massage

I got a deep tissue massage here and it was amazing. The therapist Jo was great, really sweet, told me before hand what to expect and if I have any problems to let her know. She took her time, asking if I was ok each time she did something different.
After I finished they made me sit for a bit, relax, gave me water....
I would definitely return here.

Just came back from my 1st and last experience here.

First came the facial. The woman was extremely aggressive with her hands and she kept talking to me the whole time. I just wanted to relax, but i couldn't breathe because the steam was blowing right into my nose and she kept covering my nose with her hands. The extractions were beyond painful. My foot kept twitching from the pain in my face, it was that bad. My face is severely red and full of marks from the "extractions." I'm afraid it'll take weeks before these scars go away.

Then came the massage. Different woman, with a bandaid in her finger that I felt scratching my back. I let her know that she was scratching me and she took off her bandaid. For all I know, she was probably bleeding all over me. She blew her nose very loudly and kept sniffling. I hope i didn't get sick from her. I was in pain for about 85% of the time. When I told her that it hurt, she would continue doing it on the painful spot, as if i had said nothing. She also kept talking to me the whole time. My shoulders do feel better though. That's about it.

I thought I'd try Shangri-la since I was looking for a spa that could take a last minute booking and that was close to my apt. I booked the 3 1/2 hour treatment for $195.00 (you can't beat the price) and I was extremely pleased with the services I received. I have since gone back and have gotten two additional facials from the owner. She is amazing with skin. A little background on my skin; I 'live' at the dermatogist, I've gotten Polaris laser, Glycolic peels, Fraxel laser (which I love by the way), everything but needles stuck in my face. Not for vanity (ok maybe a little) but because I keloid (can get scar tissue) and used to have major breakouts so I'm always healing my skin from past sun exposure and some scarring. Every time I have gotten a facial from the owner (sorry I dont remember her name) I get compliments on my skin from several people. My skin looks clean and has a fresh glow. The reviews below are correct when they talk about her discussing politics or asking personal questions and I was a little taken back. But note this, she is just a very passionate person and loves discussing important matters. Should it be discussed elsewhere? Probably. But she never criticizes your position or thoughts, she just likes to educate herself and hear your views. She seems to care about everything (including her clients) and likes to talk about important issues (I had a conversation with her about why she discusses this with clients). Just keep in mind she does this with the best intentions and if you can deal with talking during a facial its a place worth visiting.

Cons: be prepared to talk

I took a day-off from work and had "Escape to Shangri-La" (31/2 hours for only $195!) to pamper myself. As everybody stated below, this spa is an apartment conversion; however, you won't feel like it since it's nicely done. I was fully relaxed and my skin looked great after Guinot Deep Pore Cleasing Facial (love that product!)- it was a fantastic experience and I will definitely go back when I need to relax again. More than anything else, it's so reasonable!

Well I agree with both of the previous reviewers. I went to this place over the weekend because I needed to de-stress and relax. They have a good deal for $195 + tax. You get an herbal detox wrap and you choose what massage and facial you want from the menu and it lasts about 3 and a half hours. The place is very earthy and the music and scents are calming. I had a great herbal wrap. The aeromatheraoy massage was fantastic, to die for. Then came the facial. I was nice and relaxed like I wanted to be and thought that the facial would be the icing on the cake. It was NOT. The woman doing my facial (which i believe was the owner or manager) asked me way too many personal questions (example: if i was currently dating, where I lived and if my child was a result of a marriage or a one night fling!!!) and then she got into politics. She kept badgering me into voting for Obama come this November. This lasted for about half an hour and no matter how many times I tried to change the subject she would always bring it back to the Obama issue. I came here to relax not for a presidential campaign. I left just as stressed as I went in. Definitely go for the body wraps and the massages. I highly recommend them. DON'T go for a facial.

Maybe the previous reviewer caught them on a bad day. My first experience at Shangri-la Day Spa was quite positive! The first thing that struck me was how unpretentious and unspa-like it was. Rather it was more like a converted apartment, but in the best way! The scent of Tibetan incense hung in the air, giving it a very earthy feel. The rooms were cozy and low lit, very conducive to relaxation. I had the Shangri-la package of TIBETAN HERBAL BODY WRAP (I'm partial to herbal things so I found this to be an especially luxurious treatment), AROMATHERAPY MASSAGE (with special Tibetan Massage Oil that smells wonderful!), and ACCUPRESSURE FACIAL. I felt as though I were floating by the time I was done.
There were a few products for sale, but absolutely no pressure to buy, and no feeling of being rushed! In fact, the owner and the massage therapist hung out with me for a while afterwards! I highly recommend Shangri-la Day Spa for anyone who simply wants to forget the wicked world outside and lavish in their pampering without all the fluff and nonsense of some other spas!!
