What a wonderful place! No matter how full of animals they are, the time and care the staff and volunteers take to place each individual animal (from mouse to mastiff) shows that these folks are the real deal. They not only have a happy, clean, and cage-free facility, they really look at what the potential adopters have to offer the furry residents, and try to find the perfect animal for that situation. The adoption process takes time, but this is what you would hope in a place that finds abandoned animals their forever homes. I would suspect an animal welfare establishment who just passes dogs and cats out to the first person to show interest in them. The adoption fees are beyond reasonable considering the pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and even microchipped!

If you are a responsible pet owner looking for your next love, this is most definitely the place for you

i was very upset when i went in hoping to adopt a new puppy at the Tompkins county SPCA. i had taken the time to play with a puppy there and made a great connection with one. unfortunately when i was just about to adopt the dog they said i couldn't because i would being giving it an outside home. i had adopted a dog here before and had it for 15 years, she just passed away and was the best dog i had ever had. she was a completely outdoor dog and lived a very long and happy life. i was extremely upset that they would deny me the opportunity to house this dog. it seemed to me that the moment i stepped in there i was being judged by the staff and i felt like they were making up an excuse to not allow me to adopt this dog. i hope that i may find a better shelter and adopt a dog like the one i saw on that day.

As a no kill shelter this is probably the best place to bring stray pets or animals. The facility is nice and the employees are very caring and concerned with the well being of the animals
