I used to go there often but I stopped going to this restaurant. The last time when I went there, I arrived 10 minutes earlier than my reservation time (6:30 pm). The woman at the reception abruptly told me that I had to wait. Her exact word was "you made 6:30 reservation & that's when you can be seated". She could have said it nicer than this.

I love this mexican restaurant! It is always a great experience!
You must try the queso fundido and the dessert: tres leches de la casa!
Besides that the pomegrane margarita is terrific!

Overpriced in an unreasonable way. The food was not bad, the guac was good, but the prices killed everything good about it

Very, very unimpressed. The food was ridiculously expensive and not worth it at all. The guacamole was good, sure, but for that price, it was completely not worth it. The mexican food was average at best, the drinks were nothing special, the service was slow on a crowded night, and although we ended up having a good time, we really had to try to make the best of it.

First of all, I love Rosa Mexicano, the one at union square. Last Sunday, we decided to try the one at Lincoln Center for the Sunday lunch restaurant week menu and it was a huge mistake. When we asked for the restaurant week menu, the staff told us they don??t do Sunday lunch and that the information on Opentable is inaccurate. It was as if we had to beg for the restaurant week menu and yet when other people were seated, the restaurant week menu was provided to them without asking. We ended up having to order from the regular brunch menu which we did not enjoy much. The guacamole was not prepared thoroughly as we could still see and taste huge chunks of guacamole and the steak was very chewy. Overall, my experience at this location is very poor. The one at Union Square has much better service, food, and decor.

I have been to this location many times since it opened. The last couple of times I was surprised and disappointed by a change in the atmosphere - it had lost its sophistication and elegance - big tourist/family crowd; the staff was pleasant, but amateurish, They assumed we needed instruction on the food, and thovered and kept trying to push menu items and drinks, and, likely, $$$.

Great place, had a good time, I went on a Friday night, but try and get there right before the rush, we got there at 6:30 by the time we left there was a pretty long wait. the service was good, the drinks and food were good. Would definitely go back.

I came here with my mother and her fiancee. We barely managed to beat the post-opera crowd but still ran into a road block. Somehow we were behind a couple of people in line and the wait came to 45 minutes all of a sudden! When I spoke with the host he told me about the lengthy wait and when I expressed my disappointment he simply told me that he'd work it out.

We got sat in 2 minutes!!

We ordered the guacomole app which was DELICIOUS! I had the priviledge of indulging in the vegetarian enchiladas which was wonderful and filling. We decided to get the churros for dessert and they - were - FABULOUS! 3 different dipping sauces and warm churros? CAN'T GO WRONG!

Anyway, I'd recommend this place to anyone. Just be sure to have a full wallet so you don't have to worry about your taste buds having to match your pocketbook.

A friend of mine brought me here today. My first impression was "WOW" nice place. I was sort of impressed with the guacamole. It was delicious. I started looking at the menu, I couldn't decide so I ordered the chicken tacos. jmmmm, I received about 5 pieces of chicken on tops of melted cheese "BTW the cheese was good". The chicken had no taste, the tiny tacos where just well tacos. I just didn't have anything to make a taco. i wasn't impressed. The margarita was not good. I won't be returning...Too pricey for nothing. I must agree with other reviews I have tasted better Margaritas and Mexican food. I think you are better off going to a local place where the food is better and cheaper. Not worth it @ all. It's sad because the restaurant is beautiful and it can be romantic. Sorry, if you want to give your hard earned money away, GO!!!! If not, skip it...You are not missing anything at all...... ;-)

I wait at the bar for one hour to be seating, the bartender was rude and not very fluent in English and the margaritas terrible. The food was ok. the service was terrible the waitress and the manager were so rude. I have never had experience like that in my life...I would never go there again!!!!!!!
I am sorry to say that what used to be a decent restaurant is no longer worthy.

This is far from being "the best mexican restaurant in the city" like other reviewers mention. The drinks are made from the very simple Margarita Mix that you can buy from the supermarket. The guacamole made in front of your table tasted good, but that's about all that tasted decent out of the four dinner choices each of us ordered.
Tortilla Soup that I ordered tasted worse than the soup i had in the All-Inclusive Resort in Cancun.
The decor is nice, but don't waste your time and money on this restaurant....go to a low-key places in downtown, or better yet, try "Santa Fe Grill" in Park Slope - the best Margaritas and the best Mexican food.

I was in New York with my three kids this past weekend and decided to try Rosa Mexicana on a relative's recommendation. The place is beautifully decorated and I expected to be told to take my rugrats elsewhere. Instead everyone was extremely friendly. The food was great, my kids have never been so enthused about about food that did not come with a toy. The service was prompt and attentive but we were not rushed at all. Our waiter was great, very friendly and good with the kids. After we left he ran all the way down the street after us to return my daughter;s camera which she had forgotten. I definitely plan to go back and would recommend it to any one visiting New York.

I was underwhelmed by the East Side Rosa Mexicano, but the Lincoln Center location is a different restaurant altogether. The decor is chic and beautiful, and the food is delicious. We had an early reservation in order to make the opera and were seated promptly. Service was good but not great -- the waiter forgot to give me a steak knife for my lamb and then disappeared for several minutes, so I sat watching everyone else eat until I could flag down another server.

Rosa Mexicano has gone downhill recently. This was my favorite restaurant in the city. Are they spreading themselves too thin with their expanding locations? I've been to all of the NY locations several times. I went to the Lincoln Center location last night. I ordered the filet mignon in the mushroom cream sauce. It was the THINNEST steak I've ever had. It wasn't even a quarter of an inch thick. It was swimming in sauce. It was like having a plate of cream of mushroom soup w/ beef. I've had this in the past, and it was 5 times the thickness. My favorite item on the menu is gone (although it's still listed on their site) chili rubbed lamb shank in parchment paper. I was in the restroom, and women were raving about the lamb - not sure why it was taken off the menu. The service was fine, but not the usual incredible service. I will try the original location one more time, but if the food quality isn't there (I can't believe I'm saying this) I will never go back to a Rosa Mexicano again.

All I heard was great things about Rosa from my co-workers. "Best Mexican in the City". And since my favorite food is mexican, I decided to give this place a shot. We order the Guac.... which was great with amazing sauces, than the nightmare began. My best friend and I ordered the steak with shrimp and my girlfriend ordered the chicken tacos. When the waiter brought us the food, I initially thought it was an appetizer because the portion was so small. Never the less, I assume they were trying to be fancy with the smaller portions so I did not mind..... until I tried the food. The shrimp were small, fishy and butterflied to make them look bigger. The steak was over-done and tasted like dog food. They brought one bowl of rice and beans for 3 PEOPLE!!!!!!! VERY CHEAP. My girlfriends chicken tacos were so bad she couldnt even finished half of one. Honestly, Chipolte, Taco Bell and Chili's are 1000 times better than this joke of Manhattan establishment. I cant believe New Yorkers would give this place a good write-up. This was my first and last time at Rosa, do not waste your time and money. If you want crappy food, atleast pay cheap prices at a street cart but do not get ripped off like I did at Rosa.

Ok, the restaurant is nice, the food is nice balh blah blah, but did you know that in order to have a reservation for more than 8 poeple you have to sign a contract. So guys if you want to have some margaritas, here sign a contract, ohh you wanted to have some Tacos, not before you sign this contract, what did you say, guacamole, here sign on the dotted line. It was my birthday and I never lost so much sleep and gained so much grey hair s as I did booking this place. Unfortunatelly I had to go there because all the people I invited were already set to go there but never again. I felt like i was in a strickt regime of a dictatorship and not in a free country where I can just come in and have a meal without any hassle. Seriously, and what is this with not being able to order from the menu? I mean I understand its a good restaurant and well known but if I want to order off the menu and not be stck with a prefixed one, I should be able to do that. I mean what If I , or any of my friends, just wanted a salad and not have to pay $55 dolars for it? I don't understand places that make you comit so much just for a freaking meal!

I just held my boyfriend's 30th Birthday dinner here on a Sat. night and service was great. I want to thank Jose again for making sure everything turned out perfect! We had a party of 10. Most of the party got there before our 8:30pm reservation and they were already seated immediately before the entire party arrived, not having to wait around in the crowed downstairs bar. I ordered a b-day cake for $65 from their caterer (they charge you a $5 per plate fee if you bring your own cake). I was looking forward to it, but when I arrived and spoke to the manager (Jose), I found out they never received my fax with credit card info and therefore the cake was never made! I was a disappointed, but before I could even get upset Jose took care of it immediately. He was great and really knows the meaning of customer service. He offered to get a cake if we needed or have the chef do something special. Luckily my boyfriend's mom had also brought a cake (his favorite childhood cake) so Jose said they wouldn't charge us a plate fee because of the mix-up. They lit all the candles on our cake and brought it out, and then when they cut and served the cake we had, the chef nicely designed a "Happy Birthday" message on my boyfriend?s plate.

The dinner was great -- all the food was brought out at once and pretty quickly, but they never rushed us out. We were there until 11pm. Everyone enjoyed their meal. My favorite dish is the skirt steak (very tender). You can't come here and not have their amazing guacamole.

I highly recommend this place. It is a bit on the expensive side, but in my opinion worth it. It's also an impressive place to bring out of towners. I come here often and actually a few months ago when I was here, I was sitting across from Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristen Davis and Cynthia Nixon (with her girlfriend).

Btw, if you have a group of 10+, they offer family style catering for $55 per person. If we had anymore than 10 we would have done this option.

Rosa Mexicano is great for quite authentic mexican food. My wife and I noticed many of the same dishes that we saw on menus while we were visiting Mexico. The service was excellent and our waiter thoroughly answered any questions that we had about the food. What made our dining experience so special was really the way the entire staff treated us from the guacamole guy, server, and to the manager (a bald guy) who really seemed interested in making our evening great. Despite the long wait (we didn't have a reservation), we would definately go back.

group of us went there last night. the maitre deee wanted us to wait for our entire party to show before seating us. i thought that was lame considering only one person was missing from our group. the food was good though. as in previous reviews .. the small amount of guaco although fresh costs $14. we had the shrimp and lobster enchilatas as our other appetizer and it was very flavorful. for entres, the pork, the filet mignon in tequila and the pie were great! for dessert, we had their signature tres and cocconut flan which really mark the spot. all the dishes sounded mexican but very little mexican flavors throughout our meal. it may have been the dishes we ordered but more continental cuisine than mexican. for true mexican cuisine, go elsewhere.

Anyone looking for a quick meal before rushing off to Lincoln Center would find this place a true find. The food is good (although not great), the atmosphere is fun and lively and the sevice quick. The prices are reasonable by New York standards, so this place is on my list of good "quickies" when I'm rushing to th theatre.

Pros: Inexpensive and quick

We've had numerous lunches here. The way they mix the avacado right in your face is a treat.
However, we did go for dinner here last night. Needless to say it was packed. The problem is the waiting area at the front of the restaurant. People are lined up in front of the door and on the staircase. It's tough to get up and down. No staff members ask you to stay in a certain area as people crowd the stairs to the upper level. I had to ask someone excuse me three times and of course he couldn't hear me from all the noise. I then tried to get passed him and he looked at me as though I was crazy. But what are the choices, a group of 4 people crowding a narrow staircase and not a staff member in sight to direct people where to go.

Went their on Valentine's Day..which was not the greatest. But the ambience and atmosphere was very pleasant. For appetizer I had the duck, which was quite succulent. Fish was very good and the service was a plus. I have plans to go back and enjoy this beautiful restaurant. I found it very romantic (even though i was crying my eyes out). Definitely pay a visit.

I went to Rosa Mexicana a few weeks ago with a friend. To start with - the maitre'd
forgot our reservation and then when it came time to sit us down - he told us we only had an hour. He was so obnoxious and didn't even apologize for forgetting about us.
Then we sit down and the food is out within 3 minutes. The food was good but we definitely felt rushed. It's obvious the food is pre-cooked here. There are better restaurants in the city. Don't waste your time here!

I only went because I had a $100 certificate AMEX sent me.... My date and I each had two rounds of drinks, two entrees (one being the Filet and it was NOT GOOD - SMOTHERED IN MUSHROOMS AND SAUCES - COULDN'T EVEN FIND THE MEET) and two appetizers and we had our bill paid all in fifty minutes. I hate being rushed and especially when spending almost $175 on two people. It just seemed like a euro tourist trap.

The experience was a great one, i went there with a date. MAKE RESERVATIONS. The date was not so good, but the food and the service made up for it. After the date, i stayed at the bar and enjoyed the icredible margaritas, and subsequently, called several of my friends, and we stayed at the bar and ordered food and drinks. This is a classy place with great food (the best in NYC) and a great young feel. Highly recommended.

We were seated promptly for our reservation made through opentable.com. Our server was, without any doubt, one of the best I've ever had in New York (and we all know how hard that is sometimes!). I highly recommend the guacamole and filet with mushroom tequilla sauce.

Read the reviews of the East Side Location, then read the West side location reviews - Decided to go to the West side one, and was pleasantly surprised and pleased. Our waiter was more than excellent, there was even 1 in our party that was going to join us 1 hour into dinner, so i made reservations for 4, and they didn't have a problem with seating us at a 4 top even though we were only 3. the place is beautiful!!! sooo cool. the food was pretty good - i like the guac. i did order the special veggie item with pine nuts -no longer on the menu, but i asked for veggie dish and the waiter immediatly brought up that one. will go again.

Ohh its like heaven in your mouth ! They make the guacomole at your table & it is delicious ! Everything we had was delicious actually & portions are huge ! ( Maybe a little too huge as everything was so good we were stuffed leaving this place), but I would definitely go back ! It has a very cool atmosphere as well. I love the "water fountain" wall with the diving sequence, so original !

After reading all of the bad reviews for this place, I was skeptical about going with my co-workers. I got to choose the place of dining on this particular night and I didn't want to disappoint anyone. And I'm very happy to say that no one was disappointed. The margaritas were excellent (the Herradura tequila is sooo wonderful) and the food was better than any mexican I've had in awhile (and my boyfriend and I go mexican about once a week). We had really great service, our waiter was very attentive but not pushy in any way. All of the staff seemed very friendly and we encountered nothing but smiles. Maybe they changed the waitstaff since those other reviews were written, I don't know, but overall, it was a nice experience and I am definitely going back.

The Columbus Circle/Lincoln Center location and interior design are very impressive! The tiny figures of divers, water fall and other cool architectural features. That's probably all about it...
Food was one of the worst and pricy of all mexican places I have ever been to, service was even worse. Too pushy and unfriendly.
Going there is Definitely waste of money. I prefer to pay for the ticket to the nice Art Museum to my Aesthetic satisfaction and have dinner in different place for the smaller price to my Appetite fullfilment rather than staring at all their Glamour and staying hungry and annoyed.

My husband, my college room mate and I met here for dinner to celebrate his new job and her 30th birthday. Three friends joined us there for a drink. After each of them had had one drink, one of the managers came up to our table and told us that he no longer felt comfortable serving us any more margaritas. He was stumped when asked why. We are 30 plus year olds, very gainfully employed, were not being loud or obnoxious, there were other diners around us as well as a bunch of people at the bar and nobody seemed to have a problem with us except for this manager. He was rude and disrespectful and managed to ruin the entire evening for us - I have never been refused service in a restaurant let alone in the New York equivalent of Chili's. I will never go back.

Good margaritas and a delicious meal. The Enchiladas suizas were so tasty with a good amount of chicken. I was pleasantly surprised by the portion size. Everyone was pleased.

My three sisters were in town recently and we decided to go here before our show in Time Square. The food was amazing! Our server was so friendly and made the experience that more enjoyable for us! We tried a bunch of apps and then shared a few main courses! Not one of us disliked a dish! The drinks were also amazing, although the sangria was not that great, 2 much grape juice!!! I will definitely come back here soon!

Having been disappointed by the East side location, I thought I'd pop in for a quick drink, chips and guac before a 7pm show at LC. That quickly changed when I saw the layout (hip), the menu (somehow seemed better?), and the hospitality when they squeezed us into a table. Had that guac and chips, plus an incredible lump crabmeat enchilada, plus the divine pomegranate margarita. Told server we had to rush, and Leo took spectacular care of us, water glasses always filled and tortillas warm and fresh. They deserve every accolade -- I'll commonly spend twice the money for half the enjoyment. Go!

That's as Mexican as you can get at this place. Too much attitude, food was shamefully bad, gladly the portions are small. Cuisine? LOL! Drinks were over priced (vodka drink and a xx equis: $16 and no change for my $20). We must have been asked atleast 5 times if we wanted refills, too bad they weren't so preocuppied in 'pushing' food. The joke was on us really. We were excited and fell for the good advertising. Do yourself a favor and spend your money elsewhere and get some decent Mexican food & drink for half the price. All in all said: $75 for dissapointment.

Yeah, the food was good (albeit nuevo Mexican), but that was about it. The service was WAY pushy - even after we ordered and said we did NOT want the guac, it was delivered to our table anyways. We also didn't understand the big deal about the pomegrante margarita - it wasn't that tasty and for $10 you would think that you'd be served a little more than a juice glass worth of drink. The crowd was also very touristy (even for the location), and full of kids. There are much better choices for Mexican in the City.

If you like margaritas and food that is fresh, festive, flavorful, and filling....go to Rosa Mexicano. It is my boyfriend and I's favorite spot. The pomegranate margaritas are delicious, but potent so beware....they go down like a slushie. The tapas are easy to fill up on, so be careful to save room for dinner. The meats melt in your mouth, the rice and beans are the best I've had, and dessert.....oh my gosh...please just go!!! I am making myself hungry!!!
