So may be I went inside because I liked the name. Whatever. The place was a good time. Nice bar. Big, long. Opens to a nice room. Pool table in the middle of the back room. Drinks were good. I didn't need that many because i could FEEL them after two. Service was on point, cute waitresses add to the whole fat black pussycat thing. I am going back. Good mix of people. Met a cute girl (extra star)

My friends like, let's leave, the music is wack, it's blowing my mood. I wanna go somewhere that's really live. I'm like, last time I came here, which was brief, seemed so appealing. I dragged her to the city all the way from Queens just to go to this place and it sucked.

So she's like what is the DJ doing? Playing YouTube videos? He was literally just waltzing around, milkin the clock or whatever. idk. So I'm like we'll let me see if he can play something a little upbeat? People ask DJs stuff like that right? So, I got up and approached the DJ with a smile and I said ""Heyyyyyyy wassup? Can you play something a little more upbeat?"" Now, usually, a professional DJ would say ""ok sure whatever"" just to get someone out of their ear and away from the booth, and continue with his/her life. But no, this DJ (5'7, Filipino/Asian looking, about 180 lbs, kinda looks like TilaTequila though he might find that complimenting if you kno what I mean) just completely blacked out on me. Hes like, no, since you asked like that. Im like asked like what? How was i supposed to ask? On bending knee? I didnt approach him wrong, at all.

The DJ starts YELLING AT THE TOP OF HIS LUNGS, down at me from the booth, screaming about how I was ""insulting his job"" and I ""have no sense or idea about music"" and to ""get the F*%k out of his F$&king face"" and it goes on. So i reply like ""what is wrong with you? Are you ok? I asked a simple question and you're acting like I emasculated (nvm)-- but anyway, it's not that serious.""

The DJ just starts getting louder and louder to the point my friend heard him from our table 15 feet away. O__o wtf..... He just lost it, went off his top screaming ""GET THE F$CK OUT OF MY FACE, GET THE F$CK OUT MY FACE!!, LEAVE IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT IM PLAYING. GET THE F$CK OUT OF HERE!!!!!!"". I just paused and stared at him, I look back, everyone's staring at us. Smh. And the waiter approaches me like ""oh you can't ask him what to play"". I'm like ""wait, what? Isn't that supposed to be the most personable person here? And didn't you ask me if I had any request?
So I asked him myself?, what was the big deal?""

So i see that he obviously ""Runs NY"", and im like ok, fine. As I walked away he starts tellin ""YEAH GET THE F$CK OUTTA HERE!!, THAT'S WHY YOU LOOK LIKE SH!T!!, F$CK YOU!"" I'm like wow... If I even say what I want to say back, I'll look like an A$$HOLE and sound real prejudice, but cool. I jus reply ""get some real DJ lessons and some anger management"".

So I took the L, and sat down. My friend is like ""wth happened???!"". I couldn't even give her a real answer because I didn't really know either. Though I had the real urge to bust his scalp open with my mug, I just shook my head in disbelief. The waiter comes and I'm like get the manager. 5 mins later, the manager approaches the table asking how he could ""be of service"". (white bald guy, like 5'8""). I almost slapped him.

Really? Your DJ just cursed me out and verbally assaulted me cuz I asked him to play something ""upbeat"" and you're here being patronizing? Alright. Time to go. He's like ""oh, if you have any request just go through me"". Totally ignoring the actual matter at hand. So, since I'm in grad school with a future ahead, I decide I'll leave before I'm in central bookings for aggravated assault. And my BFF is like texting everyone in her phone to not go there and tweeting about it. I couldn't even bother. We sent our drinks back to the bar. The smartest thing the waitress did was not charge me, (oooh $5.50, sweet. -__-) . If i could give no stars and a ounce of cow sh!t, i would. Never. Ever. Ever. Going back there. And I'll make sure everyone I know doesn't either. And I know a lot of people. :)

Great club! I did enjoy my night out over there; music was fine, the service and drinks were not bad at all. Really nice atmosphere. We were a bit skeptical regarding the door policy though..the first time we went there the line was huge, it took us almost an hour to get into the club. The second time we were 9people and we booked a Limo night out package for like $160 , for 1h limo tour and admission in the club skipping the line (limotournyc) that was a pretty good deal! Anyway Ill definitely go back there!

I was meeting friends in the area, they suggested the place. It is bizarre; it starts out as a beautiful bar, moves into this big room with great booths and then takes a turn into this red velvet room with couches and a thrown.

Did I mention there was karaoke in the red room?

But all in all it was a great time. The karaoke lady was really nice, she sang along with me (I have no idea how i ended up singing karaoke. . . ). The waitress was polite and fast. The bartender was pretty cool too.

I had a great time.

It is no hassle low key fun in the village. Nothing pretentious, just fun. I suggest that you go there!

I was here this Saturday night for a friend's birthday party. I guess she made the mistake of not making a reservation. But once the manager and server heard it was my friend's birthday they gave us the VIP treatment, as well as the VIP room!

We had a great time. The drinks are big and strong. The music is great. You can dance to it!

Service was awesome. The waiter was nice. Checked on us a lot. Fast service.

I will be back!

The Bartenders were polite and and prompt in taking orders despite a high volume crowd- too bad they were also very generous with the amount of water they infused into my jack and coke! Good time all around, but im not rushing back anytime soon...

Fat Black Pussy Cat is a great spot in the west village. Another great place to go is The Griffin to Michael Fredo's Wednesday night party. They have a great show and an open bar from 8-9:30. Free admission too. Michael Fredo with The Benny Reid Ensemble is a great Jazz/ Ratpack show. 50 Gansevoort @ Greenwich

I love this place. It has a variety of atmospheres. The service is friendly, and the drinks are big. If you make a reservation, the manager comes to check and make sure that you are happy. They lose a star for having old restrooms.

I went to Fat Black Pussycat over the weekend with some friends and had a great time. Cool atmosphere, good drinks&good service. We met a bunch of nice people that we ended up hanging out with all night. I'm excited to go back to check out the after work scene as my office isn't that far away

So, my husband tells me Saturday night he's planning to take me out, for me to pick a place. I spend the entire evening searching for hot bars/ clubs and I end up finding "" fat black pussy cat"". I read most of the reviews, and all seem to be positive feedback, I tell my husband this is going to be the hot spot for the night, he tries telling me not to believe everything I read, that all feed back is necessary true, I assure him that we are going to have a good time......NOT, we walk into the bar, and it looked nothing like the pictures they posted up on their web site. It was so run down, we asked the bar tender for some drinks, and I guess he forgot about us, cuz we didn't get crap after 15 min of waiting. We came from upstate New York thinking we were going to have a good time, instead we ended up in the dumps of New York. What a disappointment. :(

This bar is okay, theres nothing specifically special about it, but the waitress we had was horrible. She wasn't happy with her tips, and didnt understand that to have good tips you nweed to be pleasent. We have never gone back since and wont.

I have been here for new years as well on a typical saturday night. I had issues with the service on new years but that was quickly resolved by the management and the owner who made up for it big time. Its a definitely fun place, they have pretty good food and strong drinks. I would gladly return since unlike other venues, they actually value customer satisfaction and make sure everything goes well. I definitely recommend this place whether its just a hang out with friends or even a birthday party as you are bound to have a great time.

My bff planned this night out and it didn't dissapoint! Their drinks are so yummy I had some kind of pineapple vodka martini that was so delish there was o way I could stop at one! We went cuz my friends said they had karaoke which I can't resist to sing a few songs with my girls but to our surprise they also had a fab band that sounded way better then our singing! So after we sang a few songs to each other we went downstairs to listen to the real singers and I can't wait to go back!\r
Thanks so much for a fun night out! You guys rock!

Well, let's just say the pussy cat did not live up to my expectations. The place gets super crowded on Saturdays...but of course that's expected. We bypassed the bar area and the pool area and went to the little lounge in the back. The furniture was sooooo dirty and the seats did not have cushions. And mind you these were wooden chairs. The DJ in this room sucked big time and was rude when my friend asked to make a request. The ipod music in the bar was way better then this rude DJ who looked likehe just escaped from prison. \r
\r
The website says you are allowed to party in their sister lounge free of charge but the lounge next door was charging to get in.\r
\r
The good thing about this place was the waiter was nice, the chicken wings were good as well as the pink lemonade martini. Also, the tip is included in your bill.....the waiter got a $20 tip whether he deserved it or not. This is not a classy place so gratuity should not be included. \r
\r
This would be a cool place to get drinks for happy hour if you so happen to be in the area. But if you come all the way from the Bronx like I did you will be totally disappointed.

A couple friends and I headed to the afterparty at the Fat Black Pussycat for a birthday night celebration. The design was retro mod, and the prices were very affordable. A bit crowded, but overall a great night.

I love this place! Some coworkers and I went there for the first time last Friday night after work. The food, drinks, atmosphere- it is the perfect after work spot, but you end up staying all night!
Other pluses- friendly waitstaff, great music, and strong drinks!! I will definitely be back!

I had a fun night here a few weeks ago, I know people who aren't into the club scene who enjoy the FBPC so on a Wednesday I got in touch with Kristen about making a reservation for my birthday party on a Sat night. She was amazingly responsive (I seriously wonder when she sleeps!), answered ALL my questions in a few e-mails back and forth and I thought the policy for resrving a table was AMAZING. \r
\r
No bottle service is important to my friends and I. We will spend money on drinks and food, and we all believe in big tipping so the required 20% tip wasn't any problem, esp as our waitress was great and was working hard all night-just sorry that she did her job so well that I forgot her name! So large cover charges and bottle service policies turn us off. I didn't hear a single complaint from my group about the minimum tab you need to run. Everyone felt it was fair and we have a lot of personalities to please! \r
\r
Despite them not having Guiness in the Underground (they have it in the actual FBPC- which is where we had some drinks before the Underground opened- as we arrived early) the waitress got us two rounds of it for ""car bombs"" which we really appreciated b/c I know it wasn't something they really offer.\r
\r
The DJ keeps the place jumping and he kept my party dancing all night. My friends all had a great time!! Overall he spun better than most places I've been but I'll always hate them cutting a song short- esp when it's one I love.\r
\r
Also- I have to mention that having the kitchen open until 2 is awesome and as someone always gets hungry this time we didn't have to kill the party early to feed them!\r
\r
Overall- a GREAT time- DO watch the dress code as they check. Kristen was extremely helpful and I'm going to keep her e-mail addy for a possible girls night out soon! Kristen even checked up on us at least once- that's great customer service. The bouncers were cool too. One of my friends tried to dance on a seat- a no-no most places- and he just signaled her and shook his head- very cool that he didn't have a power trip like many can- he didn't yell or get mean. I also love that there aren't a million sleezy guys there trying to hit on everything female and breathing- this place is a great time every time!! You won't regret it- table or no- the cover is VERY fair too. The owners know you can make money without ripping off your clientelle- which is why I'll gladly come back over and over. Might try a calmer night in the lounge next time though!

From dancing to live music or a DJ. To the relax atmosphere of the lounge. To the fun and hectic nature of the bar. I got a pleasant vibe. From the bouncers, bartenders and the rest of the staff. They were all very friendly. I will definetely go back.

I really like this place! If you go on a weekday for Happy Hour you get a really nice comfy couch or table. The back room is great if you get in early enough you can just lounge and watch whatever vintage porn is playing. (Ooops! Did I say that?!)\r
\r
It's dark and earthy with antique decor. the crowd is kindof crazy college kid tho at some points. Also the dance clue downstairs is a little weird. I dont want you walking up behind me and humping me thanks. Ask me to dance ; p\r

I went to Happy Hour here and the prices were unbelievable. I ordered two drinks with Stoli vodka and paid $7.00. Someone else ordered Dewers on the rocks and paid $3.50. It's unheard of in the city to get top shelf liquor for so cheap. The place isn't crowded either and you can hear eachother talk. Not the best music during Happy Hour, but with the cheap drink prices that is not the biggest deal. The bartenders are nice too so that is a bonuse! Next time I go out for Happy Hour I will definitely go here!

This is one of my favorite places because there is so much you can do. Upstairs they have two rooms - one like an old style bar, and the other a Moroccan lounge. Downstairs they have dancing and sometimes live music. It seems to be a popular choice for groups because there is plenty of seating, there are couches, and the booths have high backs giving some privacy.

I've had two parties at this place. One birthday, and one small reunion. The manager Gypsee was super prompt returning all my emails and taking care of every detail. When we arrived everything was just as promised. Three rooms, and tons of drink concoctions. I really like this place.

I was there last Wednesday for Karaoke for my friends birthday. We had a blast singing Karaoke in the lounge. We had the best homemade infused vokas..YUMMY..the pineapple and the verry berry were delicious. also had the beef sliders, veggie skewers and homemade potatoe chips all delicious. Very surprised to find good food in a bar. Just when we were tired of singing went down to the Village Underground and enjoyed the live music, amazing singers. Loved the old school reggae and disco that the girls sang. also loved how the band mixed the old and the new, mixed rock with the hip-hop. the band was having so much fun on stage that we stayed the entire night - didnt want to miss a thing. This place is a jem. Looking forward to going back soon

I love this place...I think my fav about it is the Karaoke! It's so much fun! I go all the time! But the thing is they also have other stuff there too! So if there are to many people signing you can play pool or go down stairs and listen to the professionals sign.

The Underground has absolutely the best sound in the city for such an intimate setting. Only other contender would be The Wha? Formerly of the same ownership. The drinks are nicely sized and tastey. The waitstaff is customer friendly, although it is possible to get lost in the shuffle on busy nights. The bouncers keep it orderly.
I was seated next to regular customers of the Blue Note last Friday, it was their first time coming to the VU. The UnionN was on stage. They said they they had never experienced anything like the VU, and were sure to come back. Overall, any quest for excellent live music should start here. You might make it a permanent home.

FBPC has yummy happy hour specials including a wide variety of martinis and shots. The place is filled with old couches and chairs and has a vintage smell, but the younger crowd doesn't seems to think about or care about what the place would look like ""with the lights on..."" \r
Recommended for newcomers to NYC and to all in the winter when it doesn't matter that you're entering a dungeon during daylight hours.

I celebrated my 30th here and I have to say that the other 29 sucked compared to this night! I had 0 problems here. Not like some other places I don't want to mention! I just have to say Thank you to the party Coordinator Gypsee...SHE IS THE BEST! And I didn't have to worry about any of my friends having a good time because the guys could play pool upstairs while us ladies danced the night away downstairs! I will def be back! Thanks Gypsee!\r

I really don't have to go to any other bar and then if I get tired of singing I go downstairs to hear the bands that play! I really love this place!

Customer service is number one in any business for benificial reasons(word of mouth promo ect. by customers). At the this establishment it varied. The guy behind the bar was pretty courteous while the young lady was rude and impatient. She had an expression on her face as if I was burden or something. One of the waitresses misplaced my credit card and doubted that she had it until she double check and found it (spend 15 minutues argruing with her).\r
\r
Nice place and setting. Was here on Valentines day of this year for the first time. I can't really pass judgement based on one trip. But I will go back. \r
\r
The music was okay but nothing special compared to another establishment I visited before. Maybe I went on the wrong night. \r
\r
The drinks were top notch and strong!!! One of the best places to drink. \r
\r
I was at both at the Village Underground and Fat Black P Cat and since they are sister establishments I rated them both together. \r

Village Underground was okay (average customer serivce)\r

Laid-back and easy going crowd for the most part, except for one instance involving a group of dart players in the back. If all else fails, watch MTV.

This was a GREAT bar. It had so many rooms and atmospheres to fit all your moods. Though the bartender at the front when you walk in was really slow and really not personable. You over look that once you enter all these amazing rooms decorated to the tee. Great lighting and drinks were at a moderate price. Its close to the subway and West 4th, so you can easily get a cab.

I came with a group of 8 people last week. We had a fantastic time. Martinis were huge and delicious. Service was great. and the DJ downstairs couldn't have been better. The decor in the velvety room was really beautiful. I don't thnk we could have chosen a better place.

A 3-1 type of place. When you enter its a sports/dive bar, walk further its a lounge, go downstairs and it has more of a club atmosphere. They have half price drinks for hour on Wednesdays (or at least they used to).\r
\r
It's still a decent place to hang out other than on weekend nights, where the place develops more of an attitude. The place has become a little snootier in the past few years, but not bad compared to some of the other places in the city.\r
\r
Plus it's the only place I know in NY I can get Tusker beer. A big plus in my book.

I had a party on Nov. 29th. The coordinator did everything possible to accomodate my needs. The bouncers at the door were all very friendly. The only annoying thing is the minimum amount per person if you have a guest list. It's $25 a person that needs to be spent in order to have a table/guest list. This gets really annoying because it generally means you will get screwed by your friends that are cheap and don't pay up at the end of the night. Once you get the minimum you can close out the tab. It's probably a lot easier to just pay the $10 cover because you'll find a place to pop a squat. There is seating everywhere. That being said we came up short of the minimum because everyone in my party kept going to the bar to order drinks the whole night. The waitress let us off the hook for the small difference which was nice. \r
\r
Aside from that the DJ was pretty good; spinning a good mix. The crowd was very mixed as well. Decent ratio of guys to girls. The whole set up with the dance floor and bar in the village underground was sweet. If you don't want that whole scene you can just go upstairs to the lounge area, and chill. Best of both worlds to accomodate your friends. Ben's pizza next door is amazing by the way, and the perfect way to end a really drunk night. \r
\r
All in all definitely a fun spot. I would come back.\r
\r
Pros: set up, friendly bouncers, employees, decent crowd \r
\r
Cons: waitress had a little trouble getting the drinks out which caused my friends to go to the bar (we had over 20 people in our party), annoying drink minimum for parties

Fun, old style wooden booth bar in front. In back there's a more expensive lounge like area. Mixed crowd of older and NYU types. Good talking kind of bar because there are TV's blaring everywhere. Always have a good time there.
