Fantastic Bar in a boring terrible area. I like this place because the girls are cool and dance on tables. The scene is fun on thursday nights and I like to dance with chicas.

Pros: Tasty Food

I enjoy my time there. Given that it is the only bar in my neighborhood, I am grateful that it is this one. Good crowd, decent drinks, perhaps a bit pricey, but pleasant all around.

we started out the night at black door the other day, the staff is nice and the crowd seems like a good mix of ppl - a good ratio and more attractive than at most bars. i agree w/ the post below that it is on the pricey side - $6 for a bottle of bud light, $8 for a weak/watery vodka soda - for more or less a chill bar.

This place is probably the only joint in the neighborhood with good atmosphere, but the drinks are way too expensive. It seems to be trying desperately to appeal at once to both hip and rich people, but most hip people can't afford $7 bottles (bottles!) of beer and $9 glasses of cheap red wine. I live in the neighborhood and would LOVE to be able to hang out here. It would be a place that I could grab a drink with a friend before going to dinner, or just hang out and catch up with a friend. But because of the high prices, I'll be spending that $9 on an entire bottle and holing up in my apartment. Maybe I'll try back later when I quit being cool and join the ranks on wall street.

I had a joint birthday party here last week and everything went as smoothly as we could have ever wanted. It was a great private space for a party. We had a big crowd of over 100 people and everyone fit comfortably in the space. The bartenders were great and you are able to play your own music - def. a plus! Securing the room was hassle free and there was no double booking of parties like a lot of places tend to do. I could not have been happier and would def. recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice but chill space to host a party.

I've enjoyed going to the Black Door and it's sister bar, the Park Bar, for the past three years! The Black Door has a very simple yet eloquent decor with high tin-panel ceilings and a BEAUTIFUL back room that's great for throwing parties in!! It's characteristically dimly lit and has lots of candles spread throughout, which creates a nice, low-key vibe. The bar and cocktail staff are all MORE than competent, and they're friendly and have personality! The drinks are well-made and not overpriced! No "specialty drink" menu, but the wine by the glass selection always rocks and the champagnes by the bottle are very moderately priced!
Great for after-work or late-night or just chillin' any day of the week, and there's plenty of seating!

This bar is completely horrifying. I should have read the other reviews before going. Not only are the drinks overpriced, but most disturbing is that they mischarged my credit card. When I brought this to the bartender's attention, he acted like it was my mistake and then realized that he just couldn't add. He said that he would fix it when finalizing it that evening, but low and behold the charge was wrong on my statement. I work in the service industry and I was even shocked by how poor the customer service was.

Happy Hour in a cosy black light with solid service, good prices, and strong drinks make this a contender for best bar in the Flatiron area. Get here early or the place will be full by 6:30PM.

I went here to meet up with a few friends and after walking in the bar seemed like it had some potential. Well that possibility ended pretty quickly after I met one of the bartenders. After not having several types of alcohol, and then going to get it, he took about 15 minutes to make our drinks. He was rude on top of that and pretty much blew us off whenever we returned. One of the female bartenders short-changed me on two separate occasions. They city has so money amazing chill bars, don't waste your time and money going to this one.

i used to go here all the time--thought it was great--but not anymore. Now the staff is rude and they overcharge and pocket your change. and from the looks of these other recent reviews, i'm not alone in thinking this. this place is going down the drain, unfortunately.

Nice Atmosphere, but the bar staff is rude. Paid for two drinks that came to $12. Gave Bartender a $20 and he didn't even offer to give me change. Had to follow him around for 10 min. He said he thought it was a tip. Much better bars in the area. Don't waste you time.

I went to Black Door since it was close to my office and it looked cool. But the drinks were over priced and were bad. And on top of that we had to make sure the bartender gave us our change. He kept trying to keep it as his tip. And to top it off, we were over charged. Its a shame that the service is so bad since its such a nice place.

This bar is fantastic and has been a common place for myself and my friends to be on Wed evenings. Great drinks, good staff, a hip but laid back atmosphere. My only fear is that people have discovered this bar for the great scene that it is!

I only recently discovered the Black Door -- what a pleasant surprise to find it, especially since it's related (in ownership, drink quality, and decor) to Park Bar, a long-time favorite. Strongly recommend it for meeting up with groups big and small, for nicely chosen wines, good beer (no taps, though), and well-made drinks. There's no peer in the neighborhood.

We stumbled upon this place after eating at Biltmore Room, and it was the perfect topper. Fabulous service, very generous pours, reasonably priced, and very cool atmostphere with tons of candlelight. Our bartender was awesome! Even on a Friday night, and even with a private party in back, there were plenty of chairs/tables for everyone; a big crowd, but not crowded. Sexy but unpretentious - a fabulous neighborhood watering hole!

I love the Black Door. It's not sleazy, smelly or badly decorated. Instead, it has good, strong drinks, great music and my favorite bartender in the entire city - Brian. Highly recommended.

This is a very swanky little bar. I was there on a Monday night with a group of friends so the place wasn't very corwded which was nice, we were able to procure a table. I hear it can get jammed on a Thursday night. I really can't say enough about the atmosphere, it was a very cool place. The editor says reasonably priced, well maybe. You will be paying $9 for a martini which I guess is standard issue in the city but the beers were 5 or 6 bucks a bottle, not the best deal in town. My advice is check it out for yourself it won't disappoint.

I live around the block and never noticed this place. Its the old Irish bar but brand new, and with coat hooks and candles. (Coat hooks were great in 20 degree weather, but might be weird in a few months...) Four enormous bathrooms. Worth going to if you want a drink without crowds.

A group of friends begain going to the black door for drinks and conversation, after improve class every tuesday, a couple months back. We all fell in love with the place. Good prices and friendly bar tenders add to the attraction. Even though our class is now on 8th ave we still travel for the over experience.

A great little neighborhood bar. There is no kitchen, but they're happy to order in for you; and no beer taps, but good selection of bottles/cans. Only complaint, they can extend on the beer selection (what bar can't). Good music, great staff, fine drinks...what more can you ask from a bar (except a keg). A refreshing new place for us folks who work near Madison Square Park, but commute from Penn.

I went to the black door to meet some media executives for a drink after work and the place had a refreshingly exciting energy. scintilating six foot models and an unintimidating setting. you would never expect to find a place like this on 26th street, but it was full of suprises. we even saw emilio estevez and al ramirez having martinis in the corner. a recommended spot.
