Three Irishmen had a good idea... The idea was to provide a unique Irish experience incorporating the warmth of an Irish pub with New American cuisine and all the while maintaining the same charm and hospitality. The idea became a reality five years ago when the trio opened Tir na nOg Irish Bar & Grill in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. A design team and artisans from Ireland created this small piece of Ireland by salvaging interesting architectural pieces, furniture and bric-a-brac from churches and castles in Ireland and shipping them to New York. These pieces, combined with rich textiles, Celtic script adorning the walls, and rich, dark wood have shaped an elegant yet inviting atmosphere.

Tir Na Nog takes its name from the Gaelic phrase meaning "land of eternal youth," and though its crowd is decidedly middle-aged (dark-suited business types, sports fans and Irish locals), there's a sense of youthful exuberance. With antique woodwork, wood and stone floors, stained glass, chandeliers, vintage photos and bric-a-brac, the pub setting feels homey and welcoming. The menu includes foie gras-chicken liver terrine and Irish oak-smoked salmon.

THE traditional irish restaurant

by Sharyn G. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 472

Located directly behind front station by the old post office, this is a convenient place to meet someone for drinks or a quick dinner. They serve food like fish and chips and traditional Irish fare.

Fun Irish Pub

by gripdxd

I was here the day after Thanksgiving and had a blast. There were (3) irish ladies singing and they were great. The lady bartender took good care of us & hooked us up. It wasn't too packed and their was a great mixed crowd. I also visited a 2nd time not too long after and enjoyed myself again, but not as much as the first. That's because they had different performers, but regardless it was all good. I will say that the seating areas where people eat in the bar area were pretty dirty, nobody was cleaning up, ick.

Pros: Live music, bartenders and choices on tap

Cons: bar eating areas can be dirty.

Awesome Bar

by mereditheats

I stopped into Tir Na Nog earlier this week because it looked like a pretty chill place to just grab a few drinks with my friends. Well it totally is! The bar is really relaxed, good atmosphere, and good bar food! The staff was really nice and they all had *exy Irish accents which was a definite plus!!

Yumm-A!

by rrrucker21

Once again, I picked the best meal, the boneless lamb w/ bak choy! DE-LISH! :-) Also had the soup de jour (clam chowder), creamy but not overly rich, just right with no sandy clams (yuck to sandy clams)! :-) Great prices in my opinion.

Hubby had the raw oysters (he said they were ok) and he had the shep's pie (edible).

I would recommend reservations, it was packed for a Friday night and even though we were about 15 mins early, we were promptly seated by the most gracious host. I wish I knew his name, as he put us at ease instantly. :-) Waitress was just ok. She was more interested in talking to her regulars then checking in on us and making sure our plates were cleared in a timely fashion.

Look like it would be a great bar to go to after work and catch a game or tv news.

Overall, scale of 1-10, I gave it a 7. Enjoy!

Pros: Decor is beautiful, good food for the price!

Cons: Waiting staff could be better

Great for a party

by rlsnyc04

We had my boyfriends' birthday dinner party here on Saturday - 15 of us. The staff was extremely attentive and patient, the table had some privacy which was appreciated, and the live irish music made for a great atmosphere. The only two downsides: the hostess would not seat us until all 15 were there - even when 11 of us were crowded at the bar area. It is also a tad pricey for your typical irish bar/restaurant...even the cheeseburger is $13. My boyfriends' rib eye, which granted was large, was $30 alone....that belongs in a steakhouse!

Pros: fun atmosphere, attentive service

Cons: price for the quality

This place rocks! The Yellowfin Tuna and Calf's liver are my favorites! I can't get enough of this place. It's always full, so be sure to make reservations.

Harsh Waitress!!!

by mandaa

I've never been served by such a rude waitress anywhere! Our waitress flipped out on us for a straw wrapper falling on the floor, proceeded to give us our check without us asking for it, then told us we could finish our beers and leave. This is the first time I've been called ignorant and was thrown out of a restaurant and I don't even know why it happened. We asked to speak with the manager, but supposedly he was upstairs and did not want to come down to speak with us. For the pretty penny we dropped on the food and service, we got pretty lousy service. If you go here, trust me...you won't want to leave a tip!

Pros: Decent Food

Cons: Horrible Service, No managerial staff, Very unprofessional

weak Sun brunch

by metropical

I've been told that dinner here is very good. But Sun brunch was very weak. Roasted breast of chicken cob salad. Dry tasteless chicken, under ripe avacado. Cheap on the blue cheese. The blue points were very good and fresh. Good beer selection. Good and pleasant service though slow. Maybe I'd try dinner. But it is a bar.

Pros: oysters, beers, service & ambiance

Cons: Sun brunch., slow

Authentic Irish decor, way too expensive

Liked the feel and look of the place, very authentic. Food was okay but way overpriced. Good place to go for drinks.

Good Place, Bad Locale

by risen_feenix

The food is surprisingly good, and the decor is nice. The service, however, is a peg or two below the quality of food (horrible bartenders), and the clientele, for the most part, are rowdy, loud-mouthed commuters (this could explain the bad attitudes from the staff) getting loaded for an AC/DC concert or a Knicks game. Too bad, has a lot of potential.
